Lying about location

[Deleted User]Zundar (deleted user)

Hi all, I got a message earlier today from someone I messaged weeks ago that has me a little confused.

She has her location set as London, and doesn't mention where she lives in her profile content, but apparently doesn't live in London or even anywhere in the UK. Apparently she "won't be here for quite a while" and "it would be easier to find someone geographically closer" whether she means for me or for her wasn't very clear but I assume for both of us.

I've seen people lie about their locations on dating sites before but this is the 1st time I've seen it on a cuddle buddy site. On dating sites I feel it's a bit of a dick move but is more understandable because long distance dating is something viable, but long distance cuddling is considerably less viable.

For becoming long distance friends I guess you could go down either path but I feel most people looking for cuddle buddies will want that to happen in a reasonably short amount of time, and wouldn't be overly fond of getting friendly with someone that lied about something as important as their location.

What's more is that you can search for people in other areas on this site from the cuddlers section, so anyone specifically seeking longer term friends and cuddle buddies in a particular area that they plan to move to or visit can do that without any kind of deception, and would be able to message people in that area explaining what they want and plan to do. The only advantage I can see to lying up front is in order to get messages from people in the area you're claiming to be in. But this person isn't interested in cuddling with anyone from here yet, so shrug.

@Zundar - You may have already worked this out for yourself, but it sounds to me that in a situation like this her next move is going to be something like "well, if you can pay for me to travel to such and such location we can meet there and cuddle. Please send X amount of money'. The suckers out there will fall for it and of course then she will disappear and they are out a few hundred or thousand dollars.

So be on the lookout for that. This sounds absolutely NOT like a woman who is serious about cuddling - in my opinion. Move on.

How did you come to the conclusion that she is not based in London? Lots of people move around in their jobs or due to other circumstances. Some people live in one country part of the year and another country the other part of the year. What does the 'occupation' say in her profile? If she really is not based where her profile says, report her, you'll be doing this community a service. And @SJSpoooner could well be right.

@SJSpooner I'm not so sure, she didn't seem interested in talking more which is part of what confused me. If she was some kind of scammer then she would probably have tried to sucker me but hasn't made any attempt, just a single message saying the above with some frills. And there's nothing to move on from, I'm not invested in her at all - didn't make this thread out of anger, just out of curiosity and to maybe hear from other people about experiences.

@UKGuy her profile is mostly blank, including her occupation. You're right I don't actually know if she is or isn't based on London, only that her being in London now or any time soon isn't the case. Would that actually be something reportable?

  • Some people travel for work. I live in California. I have changed my location based on where I'm working. What's relevant to me is finding a cuddle bud or pro and agreeing to a neutral place to meet in their area.

  • @Sideon Ditto for me. I no longer change my location, but I think I should because I have woken up more than once forgetting where I was or wandering to the bathroom, turning on the light, and for a split second wondered what someone did to my bathroom.
