@CharlesTwisted: I second "humanliness," despite the horrified screams of the English teacher in the back of my head. The character qualities that make men awesome work just as well for every human on earth.
In all seriousness for me manliness or masculine strength only is about protection and support. The converse of manliness is the leadership, correction and problem solving roll. And if a man can make whoever is in their presence feel protected, loved and supported then they will see a man.
@BashfulLoner: Someone who knows what needs to be done, corrects what's wrong, solves problems, makes me feel protected, loved, supported....
Hey, that's my mom!
@Baltimore_MD_ I didn’t realize it until your comment, but I definitely described my grandfather too. He so clearly defined manliness to me.
Inclined to say Maximus (Crowe), Achilles (Pitt), or King Leonidis (Butler).
But it's CC so I'll say Hiccup from How to Train Your Dragon.
@chococuddles LMAO. So what you are trying to say is you think manliness and The Expendables pop in your head.
@chococuddles Hiccup works for me!
@FunCartel Not at all. Just some light-hearted commentary of the forums.
@chococuddles Ditto for my Expendables comment. I was poking fun at all the sand and sandals testosterone driven characters you cited. The Expendables, a home for the aged testosterone driven actors, is a cheesy modern setting analogous to the ones you cited.
It's very interesting that no-one wants to discuss 'womanliness'. Is that because women are accepted for whatever they are but men have to fit into some preconceived notion of what a man should be?
@UKGuy
Guess we know it when we see it?
According to marketing, it is smelliness and sweat. Televisions, sports cars, and beer. It is clueless fatherhood and the smug assurance that birth control is a woman's problem.
Equal opportunity in marketing: womanliness is about shopping, cooking, cleaning. and taking care of clueless men.
This is all based on a passing abhorrence for television.
Manliness is a nasty word, I prefer only gender-less words
@Navyman1010 , your CC handle must cause you some discomfort. Good luck with that.
Is castration a gender-less word?
Lmaoo @Sideon
If aint genderless it aint right (please excuse my CC handle name) i wish i could change it to Navygenderless1010
Aren't we really talking about masculinity? If so, then womanliness (the opposite) is simply femininity. These definitions are a bit more appropriate I think.
Manliness - it just means the cuddler smells vaguely of sandalwood or pine.
@Marc_Pilgrim Oooooooooh, if these are masculine scents then let it rain manliness!
One word--BACON
2 words--DAVID HASSELHOFF
Brave Brave Sir Robin, cf Monty Python, was pretty manly.
4 words--KEVIN BACON EATING BACON
Not a good thread for you if you are a pig.
12 words--PIGS EATING BACON WITH DAVID HASSELHOFF WHILE WATCHING FOOTLOOSE WITH KEVIN BACON
I personally prefer pigs eating bacon while watching Kevin Bacon get his smartass kicked in a courtroom by Tom Cruise but heeeeeeeeeyyyyy, that's just me!
Too many words not counting anymore--CATLOAF EATING A BACON LOAF WHILE WATCHING TOM CRUISE WATCH HIMSELF KICKING KEVIN BACONS ASS IN THE COURTROOM WITH PIGS EATIING DAVID HASSELHOFF
"...pigs eating David Hasselhoff..." is my new favorite thing. Today.
You know the Germans and pigs love David Hasselhoff
