Unintentionally Blocking/site glitch??

edited May 2019 in General

It's the second time now. I've noticed that it's saying I blocked certain individuals.

Though, I don't recall. Nor seem to have a reason to block them. They are people I don't recall ever having issue with. One person we were speaking through the forms. So, I tried to check out their profile only to be informed I blocked them. Another, I was going through old messages then tried to visit them, same thing. Said I blocked. Am I just not recalling deliberately blocking/having issue with these individuals. Or... is it possibly a malfunction?

It's terrible for people to think we blocked them. When we might not have.

I think there is a site glitch doing this.

  • Come to think of it...

It'd be helpful if we had a required field of reason for blocking. So, we could input a little text only we could see. For the reason we blocked someone. Some times it's not so evident why we block someone. Or we may have an issue off site/elsewhere. An issue that doesn’t warrant a ban. Though, nonetheless an issue for us individually.

Maybe they saw us through video call, and stopped speaking to us. Happened to me, I found out another individual that I blocked them for that by tracing back to other place we spoke. So, while not utterly important, I think it'd be helpful to have that field.

    Side note:

I wasn’t sure if to put this with the site improvement thread. Or here. It seems suitable for either. So, I chose here.

Though, I do very much think the previously mentioned individuals were blocked due to site glitch.

  • @Lovelight You say there were some people who got into a squabble with you on the forum? That happened to me a couple times and the profiles were automatically blocked by the mods on both ends to prevent further confrontations. Although I don't see how that helps much because you can still see their stuff in the forums. Meh.

@Catloaf no, I don’t recall a squabble with the individual on the forum. Just that I tried to revisit them. Only to find out I blocked them. Though, had no recollection of doing that. Nor a reason I can think to have done that.

I also found out similarly with someone else I conversed with.

If you mean to say, moderators can block someone on our behalf. Then I didn’t knew about that.

If it’s just a guess, then I highly doubt that’s the case.

Edit: Nevermind, you come off sure of it. So not a guess. I think there might be some kind of a benefit. Though, non I know right now. end of edit.

  • Oh, I think I know what you're talking about now @Lovelight ... does it display somewhere a message that says "You cannot do "x". Either you or (username) has blocked you."? May be the former case as that is how it appeared for me when the mods first blocked those accounts for me. Or are you getting the red dialog box that says "You have blocked this member" when you try to revisit?

The moderation team can impose mutual blocks between members. When this is done, both members are supposed to receive email notifications.

  • @Catloaf it said “You blocked ________” I found out through trying to visiting their profile. So, I wasn’t sure what caused it.

@SoulcuddlerZ alright, interesting. Good to know!
