What's this life for?

I want Thanos!! 85% instead of 50%!! Really, what's this life for?

  • Why are you asking a forum on a site about cuddling? Go read some books.

  • Dear @hogboblin What I believe @hawsfan99 may be referring to, if only subconciously, is Freud's concept of ThanATos - the Death Wish. The opposite of Eros, the Life Force. What he may be saying is that existence is 85% death. Rather than 50/50, life and death. In which case he may have read more books than you think! If,perhaps, by osmosis alone.

    No.

Addendum: the idea that existence is 50% life and 50% death is absurd. There is no equilibrium between the two states— the dead will always outnumber what is currently alive. Put simply, being alive is a brief interlude between non-existence and an eternal oblivion.

Existence is a 3 act play. You lived before you came here and you live after here. One of the many reasons I believe that is because my children are all so very different. They all grew up with the same mother and father. You would expect them to be like us. Yes, they look like us, but personality wise they are totally different. Two of them were twins - and they may be the most different of all. They came that way and I believe they developed those personalities before they came here.

  • It's possible to experience yourself in relationship to the rest of the universe(s) as one and the same. If we become that in death I would call that infinity for both.

  • Hubba, hubba. This thread is really hotting up. As different people have differently favored modalities of perception - some people are visual learners, some auditory etc, I, personally, find it hard to know whether I connect and/or agree/disagree with concepts at abstractly expressed as the above...which is why I believe comics were created (by aliens - NOT!). To provide us with visual, graphic metaphors for existence (like the 3 act play analogy).

For me existence is a three legged dog. Striking, quirky, eccentric, sad, pathetic, whimsical, amusing in a macabre way, deeply incomprehensible. And very difficult when you want to take a piss against a wall.

  • I'd say it's to have: Your favorite ice cream, drinks, etc. Make good friends. Help others, and ourselves. ?

  • When I hear someone say what's this life for, it makes that song by Creed of the same title run through my head . Which makes me sad, because I really do hate Creed.

  • @pmvines Yes, it is an established fact that Scott Stapp is the devil.

  • I would say that anyone asking what life is for to a group of anonymous strangers fits the customer profile of organized religion.

This life, should you choose to accept it, is for living. Basic existence, that's the main thing. Everything else is additional.

Everything will self-destruct in... uh, eventually.

“...should you choose to accept it...”

    Ah, that would be delightful.

@hogboblin: Yeah... in actual fact you have to have life before you can choose to reject it. And then you have to have leveled up enough to make that choice effective, which takes a while.

    Annoying.

  • If life is a box of chocolates then I want to be the Coconut Cashew Creme chocolate no one will ever eat. I am a survivor.

  • @FunCartel @hogboblin @DarrenWalker you guys are some of my favorite people. Thank you.

@pmvines I miss the full of piss and vinegar version of you, although I don't hate Creed or Nickelback, I get it. lol

@HappinessHenry you're growing on me, really impressed with your growth over the short time you've been here.

You did post about your fake childern, aka mannequins! How you also fill some up with ground meat. So basically you did the same thing in my eyes!

In biological terms, it's all about procreation. Once you have procreated, your purpose is over. We seem to be doing very well in that regard. As you can see, global warming is not the only thing threatening mankind::

Oh. So this post of yours is satirical?

  • [Deleted User]hawksfan99 (deleted user)

No. There is to many people anyway!

I’ll stick with my original suggestion, then: read some books. Bringing up the (pop) cultural touchstone that is a purple alien played by Brand from The Goonies isn’t terribly compelling. In fact, it’s dull, and comes off as more than a little childish given the subject matter.

What do you mean? Can you explain your question further? I'm intrigued.
