Is this a thing? RESOLVED. ?

edited June 2019 in General

I was speaking with a bit of an acquaintance. A guy that invited me to hangout. Though, he basically says "his landlord doesn't let him out the house after* ~ 4:00. So, let's hangout earlier." All that comes to my mind is possible"house arrest". Can a landlord really impose such ODD thing? Anybody know if so, what it's called...

Let's just say, I am taking 10 steps back for now.

    Never mind... it's been solved. EDIT: I think. end of edit.

    Well, it's an awkward one to say the least. I asked him what the rule that says he can't leave at such time is called. First, he "played it off."

    I asked what company owns his complex, and to find out the rule. He got a bit defensive asking why I am invested in the rule.

    He came out to say, his landlord is his dad, and he only has this rule for him. At least now I have a bit of an idea what I am dealing with. It'd be absurd if landlords imposed such rules. I don't know of any that do. If you know, feel free to share what it's called, and what city/country allows it. Though, I suppose a parent could get away with "my house, my rules."

    4:00 AM?

  • That is a very strange arrangement. Sounds like there is more going on than a landlord/tenant situation. I could maybe see a situation where there is some kind of work agreement, like he's the maintenance guy and he's on duty after a certain time, but even then it sounds fishy. You're probably correct that it's some kind of legal thing like house arrest.

    @CardiacKid roughly that time, yes.

    @DaForceofNature I wrote another comment up. You might not have got to see because it doesn't update automatically. Well that's the update.

    He's right around my age. It's possible that he's uncomfortable to say he has mental health issues and that his parents impose a curfew as a result, for his safety. Or whatever. Still it is ODD. So, I'll proceed with more caution if I choose to proceed. Thanks for your input.

  • @CardiacKid no... "4:00 pm"

  • @Lovelight I'm glad you were able to draw it out of him. I had wondered if it was a parent/child thing as well.

  • Regardless of who the landlord is, if you're paying rent and living independently, then you're an adult and can do whatever the fluff you want. What's daddy gonna do, spank me?

  • Chris, he can by law kick you out, child or not.

  • That’s really strange. I thought it might have been like a dorm situation. Some housing limits guests especially with parking

  • Guesses:

    1. Autistic
    2. Sight impaired but not blind
    3. House arrest / court ordered curfew
    4. Mentally I'll
    5. Adult group home resident
    6. Girlfriend comes home at 4:00p
  • Raymond Babbitt would say that it is because The People’s Court comes on at 4.

  • Personally wouldn't proceed unless he can do public cuddles. Not sure if u offer that as a pro?. Aside from the "rules" his responses to ur questions is at best to me yellow flags. Good luck.

    Let us know how u get on.

  • @StellaLiz yes, at some point for a moment or so I thought that could be it. That they limit leaving/coming back. Although never heard of such. We we're planning to meet in public only.

    @CardiacKid yes, I get what you mean. I know people that fit one, or more of these categories who their family want them home by a certain time. I don't check people's social media much. It's been a long time, though, having checked his page after this came up: I saw red flags that were shared a day, or so ago. More update will be in response to 4cuddles.

    @HugsAndAttitude lol! I know right.

  • @4cuddles we weren’t conversing in the context of cuddles. He previously said he wanted to make new friends to spent time with in person. After the previously mentioned things, I was taking steps back, thank you! It didn’t seem right, many yellow flags at best like you said.

    I asked more about it, and why his father would do this. He explained why which raised yellow/ flags.

    In the end, he turned out trying to meet me in person, and scam/ me. Saying to meet him in person if I want to make thousands: “just bring $____ (a few hundreds) with you, I'll give it to my buddy to turn it into bitcoins/etc." he basically said. He displayed a host of other scam tactics, as well. I told him: “No, thank you.”

    I’ve that under control now, and I blocked him. When in doubt take steps back to re-examine, and think through. Thanks everyone for your thoughts, and trying to solve this. ?

  • @Lovelight :/ :# that's a new one. Glad u r ok. Virtual hug!
