  • @pmvines while racism against White people isn't rampant as far as I know. It does happen, the ones I heard targetting teens, and children. Especially, some with disabilities. Which, unfortunately due to some of the issues I said above, and the differing of the definition of racism: most news outlets don't address the issue for what it really is. However ocassionally it may happen, it's still a concern, which I also care about. Though, feel free to think differently on the issue.

  • This is such a sad conversation to read on this forum, of all places--especially regarding people facing discrimination in the cuddle/nonsexual-contact community. I assumed this site was about transcending social categories and just experiencing acceptance. That's why I'm here.

    I'm fortunate that I live in a big city in Texas where I enjoy a very very diverse social set, particularly in the arts scene. I can't imagine how anyone in this world could reject friendship over something as shallow as nationality

  • @ Lovelight. I'm laughing at you because you're throwing out terms that you don't even know the definition of. I suggest you google the meaning of Internalized racism before you make yourself look even worse than you already have. The whole premise of it is "Self Hate".

    @Kense: Internalized racism is the internalization of racial oppression by the racially subordinated, and involves both conscious and unconscious acceptance of a racial hierarchy in which whites are consistently ranked above people of color. [Karen Pyke, Robin Johnson]

    A black person who's internalized racism has the same beliefs about their race that a racist white person does... so they do and say a lot of the same things that racist white people do.

    @Lovelight's right on.

    @Kense

    Self-hate on the basis of one's race, and furthermore parroting the racist things said about one's race back to themselves and or, to members of one's racial group is: "internalized racism." It's not just "self-hate."

    Which by the way, by definition is only to do with the self.

    EDIT: My mistake. "Self-hate" can go beyond just the self. Though, my point about internalized racism being (the specific term) real, and said comment being fueled by it is still valid. end of edit.

    "Internalized racism" can* go* beyond the self, and is specifically to do with race. Hence, "internalized" "racism."

    I've googled, and learned about internalized racism.

    Also, how do you turn around and tell me to "learn what it means."

    When you already said: "Making up terms now LOL internalized racism ? Swear short form redacted by @Lovelight. Hating your own race is self hate not racism."

  • @DarrenWalker well said, as well! Appreciated.

  • I would think being rejected by someone due to your skin color would be far more insulting than suddenly becoming invisible in public due to your age.or that somehow you must have a significantly diminished IQ because you're older.

  • Of course being rejected because of age or physical height is totally different from rejection by race.The cops aren't going to stop you for being too short.

  • Self hate is hating the fact that you're Black, Asian etc. Whatever. You hate the fact you were born with that skin so you adopt what the racists of the dominant group feel about your group. I.E. Asian women who only date white guys then trash Asian men. Or Black Women who do the same. That is self hate. Racism requires you to feel your race is superior. Obviously a self hating person doesn't feel their race is superior because they'd rather be apart of the dominant group. So please tell me how a Black person can be racist to another Black person. That is completely insane and doesn't make sense at all.

    @kense your question to me seems based in misdefining the meaning of “Internalized racism” along with saying there is no such thing. As well as, limiting racism to just an issue of superiority*.

    Displaying internalized racism: being racist towards one’s own race doesn’t mean one's race is superior. It does however, often mean hating oneself/one’s racial group, and valuing other races more. Along with to quote @DarrenWalker’s precious... lol. Typo. previous point:

    “Internalized racism is the internalization of racial oppression by the racially subordinated, and involves both conscious and unconscious acceptance of a racial hierarchy in which whites are consistently ranked above people of color. [Karen Pyke, Robin Johnson] ...”

    Feel free to scroll back up to read the rest of Darren’s points. I edited the font to try and help make the point more clear.

  • Now if you are mixed race but racist, you self hate at the same time, yet feel the sting of being the target of the racism and hatred. You are both aggressor and victim, torn between one flavor of ice cream on one side of the ice cream carton and the other flavor on the other side, until you greedily dig in and eat away at yourself.

    At least that is what I imagined while hitting a bong in college.

  • So most of the disagreement is the terms being used. I encourage use guys to realize that. Self hate, internalized racism or color allergies whatever you want to call it should not be the focus of the disagreement. Just my 1.5 cents

  • I'm confused, is saying "I'm not into black men" racist??

  • @neesha it could be if the reason for saying so is based in racism. Like: “I am not into Black men, because Black men are hostile.” Etc.

    If it’s just to do with someone’s shade of color that they are not into then, it’s not racist. Black men don’t all have the same color, nor the same culture, personality, etc. Some are even mixed race, multi cultural, etc. So, writing off all Black men even on the basis of color could be ignorant, and closed minded.

    Though, the person this was written about didn’t just say “I am not into Black men.” They went out of their way, and out of the blue to message a member that. Which is pretty distasteful, and could very well be based in racism. People deserve to be on the platform without others randomly messaging them: “I am not into so and so.”

  • @BashfulLoner I said my point on that. Then had an argument had with me over it. Told such doesn’t exist, and so on. I suppose there’s a disagreement on @Kense’ side with the terms I used. I was simply defending the existence, and validity of the terms I used.

    At the end of the day, people are free to educate themselves on these things. I find in discussing these terms we are still discussing the bigger picture. Thanks for your input!

  • Racism and power go hand in hand, if a person has no power over you and can't control your situation they are prejudice and have an already twisted assumption of how you are. A racist can limit your advancement as a person and a racist will use racial superiority to try to do so. Same race people can't do this, are you saying there are whites who are racist against other whites? Whites being the dominant group in America have full power to do this here.

  • @neesha if a person of a different group ONLY dates one type while trashing the group they are apart of they either have a serious fetish and use that as justification or they hate themselves. A few of my Asian friends tell me this is big in the Asian community with Asian women only dating White guys then turning around and trashing their own men as justification as if all Asian men behave the same.

  • Watch how i do this guys:

    @kense ok, i see tour point.
    @Lovelight i see your point

    I forget the lady who started this whole conversation, but i disagree with her wholeheartedly. I believe she has a self hate issue rooted in racism, whether that is learned or self taught it was totally wrong.

  • I am sensing a thread about to be closed.

  • As it should

  • Not to sound like a total hippie.....but labels are most unfortunate and preconceived notions that are assigned to people based on them is f'ing tragic. The universe is a beautifully chaotic place. If a person closes themselves off to other groups of people be it due to race, age, orientation, gender, economic status or whatever else, it is their loss. There are beautiful souls floating around everywhere just wearing a different vessel. I try my very best to keep my eyes open to the possibilities of each person i encounter be it via a cuddle or standing next to me at a show. It would be lovely if this site could help people be more accepting of others, but that was not what it was set up to do. In any case, let's hug somebody!

  • @SoulcuddlerZ I think this thread has run it's course. Would you close for us? Thanks!
