Don’t underestimate the dude behind amazon . He’ll figure out a way to deliver cuddles
@DarrenWalker Using Lovelight´s logic you exist through my computer, so when you interact with people through a computer or phone, people are talking to their computer or phone. Which ironically makes you an object and this whole thread by her is about being upset that people treat her like an ¨object¨. But according to her own logic when she is using a computer or a phone she IS an Object.
@MJ150 wasn't to avoid. Just wanted to stick to the discussion about Siri and clear my point on that.
"Without your body your personality would be pointless. Does that make you your body?"
I am my body, personality, feelings, thoughts, etc. So, people are talking to all of that.
@Lovelight But Siri is not the same as it is not the phone and does not control it like you control your body. It´s a software, its like calling MS paint your computer. Yes it needs the computer to exists but it is not the computer and not an object.
@MJ150

No. Without a computer/ I still exist: through my body. Me without my body wouldn't exist. Hence, I wouldn't even be able to type this. Where as people can ask Siri things through their phone/ which Siri depends on like I depend on my body. Except Siri doesn't have feelings, thoughts, and preferences of it's own. Though* still questions can be asked to it. Like I said, I am all of the following: my thoughts, feelings, personality, body, etc. So, people are talking to all of that.
The same way people are talking to both hardware, and software: when they talk to Siri.
People use both the computer and MS paint to paint, does that make MS paint your computer?
If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is around to hear it, do the critters who are crushed in it's path still die ?
Plotting the course of this thread—from its creation until now— is bleak, absurd, and hilarious. I fully expect the conversation to shift to whether or not robots are people.
@pmvines - Sadly, yes. And usually it is a slower and more agonizing death that the poor critters experience. Or so legend has it.... as no one has ever been around to record it.
I already answered the same line of question with the example about Siri. For MS to exist thus be usable: it needs both hardware, and software. It is not a case of either or.
@hogboblin yes. Well, the main point is there for anyone who's open to consider and that it can be of help to. ?
Yea, you said this many times, MS needs a PC to work but is it your PC yes or no? ¨
@MJ150 It's not an either or case. When people talk to Siri they are talking to their phone, as well. Which was my point about talking to objects and asking them questions. Since you said "people don't ask objects questions." Siri is a part of some computers because the* hardware and software need each other for Siri to exist.
My personality is a part of me.
@ckanjo this is also part of the "objectification" I am talking about.
We are talking about people potentially* coming over. Or potentially* inviting others* into their space. Either way. We are not talking about products one orders off of Amazon. So, people shouldn't go about interacting with potential cuddle partners as though they were ordering products. Especially, EDIT: when interacting with end of edit: enthusiasts they shouldn't go about as though, they were doing a bussiness. As enthusiasts we all have our own needs, comfort levels, etc. Thus, for us to have a potentially good cuddle experience. We need to take each other's comfort, and preference into consideration first. To do that we need to communicate some. Meet then create the moment to communicate some more. So that if need be both parties feel welcome to communicate whatever needs to be prior to any cuddle that may take place. Then when/if* both parties feel at ease they can proceed.
@Lovelight Lets go the the definition of an object: a material thing that can be seen and touched.
It can be seen and touched, I can touch a computer or drop it on someone´s head. Can I touch MS paint or Siri and drop it on someone´s head?
Just because you can't physically touch Siri doesn't mean its not a part of that which you can touch. Nor does it mean people don't talk to their phones, as well. Since the two hardware and software depend* on each other for Siri to function.
Also, objectifying people. Or people feeling objectified doesn't actually make them an object. Though, it can make them feel like one. Or can make them be treated like an object when they are simply contact to just fulfill one's desire in this case: the desire to cuddle. Though, for example, the person only goes after that which can be done for them. Failing to take into consideration other's comfort, thoughts, feelings, preferences, etc. Hence, it can be: objectifying to many.
So when we talk about "objectification" as it pertains to people, it isn't them actually being an object.
Ok, I get it, its all about feelings and has no basis in logic. I still wonder why you tried so hard to make it seem logical tho, like avoiding to answer a simple yes or no question multiple times.
@Lovelight @MJ150
What you guys are doing is taking a literal meaning. I do not think Amazon and cuddling are the same but i do believe they are both a service provided. My point to the matter of why people feel like it need to be a demand is because of the world we live in. Most things are instant gratification in this day and age. We access information in matter of seconds, we can travel across the world in matter of a day. We have online dating where you can meet someone that day. It is not a shock that same mentality comes into this new trend of cuddling.
MORE IMPORTANTLY, people are wanting the demand bc they are feeling lonley at the particular time. Much like taking medication, you take medication when you are sick right? You go to the doctor when you are sick right? Some people need cuddles to feel better.
Please do not take this as offensive or am i rude. Take some time into me and understand where I an coming from. Open the mind and feel from a another perspective.
@MJ150 I answered multiple times. It isn't an either or case. Again. That isn't even the point of the post. Like I said. Objectification of people doesn't mean it actually makes them an object. So, the response is there.
Why did you try hard to make it seem like "objectifying people" or "people feeling objectified" is the exact same thing as them being an object? Maybe you don't know what "objectification" as it pertains to people actually is. So you try to argue on the basis of actual objects. Even "objectification" aside.* I mentioned other reasons as to why this kind of approach isn't for many cuddlers especially, female enthusiasts. Anyway. I explained, and you are free to read.
It means making someone feel like an object by treating them like an object. And yes it IS an either or case. Something IS or IS NOT an object and a software is NOT and object as you can not touch it. All you do is make up excuses to not answer yes or no. You are simply being dishonest by refusing to answer yes or no at any cost.
AN object has a clear definition and so does a software, and a software does NOT meet the requirements to be an object.
@MJ150 I did say it's a software which needs the hardware to function. Though, for one to talk to that software they also need to talk to their phone: hardware. That's the point I was making. Though, the argument you were making doesn't even apply here as being treated like an object. Or feeling* as though we are isn't the same as being an object.
I think we are going to have overtime here folks. Go to the bathroom now because we are only getting started.
The needing a phone for it to function is irrelevant as it is something else than the phone itself. The internet needs computers and routers to function, does that make the internet an object? No.
Wow some folks sure know how to squeeze in the last word
it makes it part of the computer. People use both the hardware and software to ask things. That's the point I have been making all along.
You asked:
"What does this have to do with objectification, how does someone going straight to the point without trying to get to know you have to do with objects?"
I explained what my post has to do with "objectification." When someone in the mentioned context fails to take people's thoughts, feelings, comfort, preferences, etc., into account, and instead goes "straight to the point" aka what they want. Then, they treat said person as just there to fulfill their desire for cuddles. Hence, objectifying the person. Or the person feeling objectified.
A part is also something in of itself and we are talking about said part but you refuse to look at it individually because convenience. And it looks like everything keeps boiling down to feelings. And I can make the same argument that you want small talk to fulfill what you want and disregard the other person´s thoughts, feelings, comfort, preferences, etc., and therefore objectifying them.
Siri is a software thus can not be touched. Though, that which it works through, and is a part of* is what people are also talking to. Hence, people can talk to their phones/Siri.
Talking with each other to mutually find out some about each other's interest, comfort, preferences, etc., is the opposite of "objectifying" someone.
Not according to your definition ¨When someone in the mentioned context fails to take people's thoughts, feelings, comfort, preferences, etc., into account,¨ What if I am an autistic guy who can´t get a gf to cuddle and I am socially awkward and feel uncomfortable having small talk and feel anxiety when people ask me about myself and prefer someone would just arrange a meeting and we cuddle in silence while watching a movie? If you expect me to have small talk and talk about myself then you are failing to take my thoughts, feelings, comfort, preferences, etc., into account and go straight into what you want and treat me as someone to fulfill your needs. Hence objectifying me.
I am beginning to understand the usefulness of labotomies.
then you need some help with your social skills, etc., and feeling more comfortable to talk a bit about yourself. Along with asking a bit about others. So, that you may increase your chances of connecting with others, and making others more comfortable with you.
Life is about compromise. Then, I wouldn't mind just sitting to watch a movie pretty much most of or half the time we spend together. By the way, I know now this hypothetical person would like to cuddle in silence and watch a movie. As well as that they struggle with their social skills, they have autism, etc. So, that's a good start to knowing a bit about said person!
