@Missy87 mmm that sounds incredible!
Since I've moved to Texas, BBQ, specifically brisket and sausage. Not a big fan of snacks/desserts. Drinks, either Iced Tea (Southern Style, of course) or Mexican Coke, though regular Coke will work when Mexican isn't available.
Desi tea and rasmalai
I love prime rib. The fattier the better! With some garlic mashed potatoes and French fried onions and asparagus ??
I wish I could curb my sweet tooth but a small iced cappuccino from Timmies and a huge key lime pie! Yes please!!???
I absolutely love sushi!! Anything from shrimp to eels and crab. Fried sushi to sashimi. Im obsessed with it!
I don't like a meal without some sort of meat. But it has to be prepped right. Juicy and tender. Usually fresh roadkill or house cat will do. Its amazing how a vehicle works as a tenderizer. And definitely leave the road pebbles in!
Oh-and a good chef salad or fresh fruit. But don't mix. Nuts and berries don't belong in a salad.
Drink? Anything non-alcoholic. But my favorite is a cherry limeade from Cuzzins Sandwich Shop in St. Augustine, FL. Haven't been there in about 15 years. Don't know if they are still in business. But it was my favorite place to stop when I lived there.
@Missy87
Congratulations to you and best of health.
I love lots of different ethnic foods. Among my favorites are Thai, Chinese, Mexican, Italian and Greek. Crazy about Thai fried rice and Fish tacos.
Desserts are my weakness. Love, love Tiramisu and most fruit pies.
I definitely avoid last suppers.
Give me a good French restaurant and I am in heaven. Blood sauces, crepes, escargot, duck, etc. I love it all. I am French on both sides and I grew up on a lot of this stuff. Unfortunately, as you get older you have to dial some of it back.
A recent session with a fellow enthusiast turned me on to Indian food as well and I love it.
Chicken posole, sopa verde con linguica, spanakopita, homemade portuguese bread with butter, mashed potatoes, and meatloaf. Some combination of these all made from scratch at home makes a great meal. If I am eating out, then I love Chinese food, sushi, and fish or trying some great new place. For dessert I need a big bowl of fresh fruits and veggies. The best drinks to wash it all down are the shredded fruit water drinks you find from Vegas to Los Angeles. I'm still experimenting with perfecting my own recipe for them at home.
My favorite type of meal is one that leads to small victories.
Mom has been having some trouble since the radiation treatments.
Weakness, fatigue, difficulty walking.
But the scariest one has been loss of appetite. Nothing tastes good to her, virtually everything makes her sick.
For the last few weeks she’s basically been eating toast, peanut butter, and apple sauce.
And not much.
Maybe, maybe, 800 calories a day.
Not good.
“Normal”, but not good.
Tonight I made my grandmother’s roast beef, that she had learned from her grandma.
I’ve never made it before.
Basically a beef roast, onions, potatoes, carrots, and a slurry of tomato paste, beef bullion, mustard, and water.
Cast iron Dutch Oven. This one is AT LEAST 110 years old. Old enough that the makers mark on the bottom is scratched in by hand, not commercially produced. Not sure how many meals, breads, etc have been cooked in it, but definitely thousands... It’s black as coal, and heavier than a guilty conscience.
(It is NOT magical, except maybe it is...)
Sear the meat in the Dutch Oven, add everything in, and let it go at 350 degrees for 4-5 hours.
Mom had seconds.
I could cry.
@CharlesTwisted that's so sweet. There's magic in the ancient cast iron 😉 I have my grandparents. Highly impractical but also irreplaceable.
It’s awesome, the occasional hernia notwithstanding...
