In Broad Daylight

It seems like most people here prefer their PDA in private settings. That makes sense for heavier stuff I guess, but what about lighter forms of affection? I'm talking like leaning on each other's shoulder, sitting in each other's lap... hand holding? 😱 lol

But seriously, it seems like there's a form of affection and cuddling that happens all the time in public but it largely ignored here. I mean places are built with couples in mind. Or is that sort of thing seen as too close to dating, too romantic in nature?

Would you cuddle in broad daylight?

  • Leaning, sure. Platonic cuddling, sure. But lap sitting and hand holding seems pretty close to "relationship" stuff.

  • "Relationship stuff" is a social construct. In the middle East touching is very limited in public if at all. In South America you kiss your friends and acquaintances on the cheek to say hello ... as long as it's platonic and what you both want/what one of you pays for who cares if it's "Relationship stuff"

  • Public cuddles like hand holding and snuggling up on a park bench sound lovely! I can see and understand that those acts would be considered more romantic by some people, but I don't think those activities are intrinsically romantic.

That our culture uses words that describe affection, love, and loyalty to describe sex certainly doesn’t help the confusion.

Simply reflect for a moment the nearing infinite number of euphemisms for sex, or sex acts, in English.

“There are two ways to know what a culture values... What it can’t seem to stop mentioning and what it is forbidden to speak of.”

As a "seasoned" client, my first enthusiast was a first time cuddler, and our first session was a handheld walk with stops for long hugs. We ended sitting on a rock, leaning on each other, arm around, holding hands. It was all very simple, platonic touch. Consider them traditionally romantic elements, but there was no romantic intent or sensation. It was a GREAT introduction for a new cuddler.

  • A friend from Syria told me that men hold hands in the Middle East. It's a totally normal, platonic act there to show that they have each other's backs. Hand holding is platonic.

Seems like a safer way to meet to me too, out in public rather than in the home of someone you don't know. I don't know though, maybe people see this more as like what they would get from friends? But friends tend not to show affection this way.

I think it could be a nice way to go for some. I mean you wouldn't be able to spoon in public. 🙄 But like... Do you need to? That's not the only way to share affection and touch.

I don't much care for daylight, broad or otherwise, but those crepuscular hours are perfect for park benches and/or walking and talking. (Or not talking.) Leaning, lap-sitting, hand-holding—sure. My sibs and I do stuff like this all the time, and you'd better believe it's not romantic for us; just an old-fashioned way of showing affection.

  • Holding hands in public is cool but i wouldn't want to cuddle in public. It seems too personal

  • I cuddle in public when the weather is nice because why not? I think people like to do the full contact cuddling over hand holding because some people think it feels better.

  • These forums are sometimes quite educational. I now know what 'crepuscular' means and I've become familar with Arab culture regarding hand-holding.

  • @emphaticrates There are certainly many ways in which physical affection can be expressed! Sometimes I think we can get stuck in ruts and only think about being affectionate in a specific set of ways. It's fun to try out new cuddle methods. Spooning is not the only way by far!

  • It depends where you live and when. When the temperature or heat index is over 105 then I will leave it to people who desire punitive cuddling.

Definitely wouldn't cuddle in the south cali heat!

We'd both be so sweaty and slippery might as well be oil wrestling.

  • I recently cuddled on the grass in a public park. It was nice, I'm sure everyone thought we were a couple but it didn't phase anyone around us. And I like my partner to feel safe and I can't think of anything better than cuddling in a park or on the beach.

  • I would totally be down for out and about cuddles. Admittedly, I am weird about hand holding. Something about it feels very intimate to me. Leaning, arms hooked, these sorts of things would be lovely tho. I suppose all things are just open to interpretation and what both people are comfy with in public.

  • @Lets_Sunggle I’ve had the exact same experience and I feel the same way. I looked at your profile just to see if you were the person I snuggled with in the park, just with a different screen name! (Nope you’re not.)

  • I love outdoor cuddles! On a blanket with a picnic in the park or on the beach late in the afternoon as the sun is setting. What could be more beautiful?

  • I don’t go out much during the day, and I dislike the idea of just hanging around one specific spot without some goal in mind, even with another person present to act as a distraction.

With all that said, I’d totally be into cuddling in a cemetery. No joke.

  • @hogboblin Cuddling until you fall into a dead sleep? Perhaps a cuddle puddle with corpses? They really aren’t busy at the moment.

    @FunCartel

Nah, just some cuddles with another person drawn to the macabre.

Speaking of cuddling with corpses: authorities in Fargo recently had to deal with an attempt at grave robbery. Or necrophilia perhaps; the story got a bit muddled when it came to the gravedigger’s motivations. He was of unsound mind, you see. In any case, the fellow was unable to unearth the cadaver due to the concrete burial vault protecting it.

Maybe he wanted to really wanted to cuddle. Who knows?
