Whenever I have a mentally and emotionally draining cuddle experience I think of this: Every experience has it's place in the universe. Whether or not it's pleasant or full filling is unimportant. It's what you allow yourself to digest from it that counts. As the sun rises, there will always be another.
@MissAdventurous - I'm not sure why you posted a definition of 'Meliorism'. It's amazing that such a word would ever be coined since it's hard to think of a single thing that humans have done in their entire existence that has improved the world. We are essentially a self-serving, destructive and violent species that has regarded the world's riches as something belonging only to us and provided for our sole benefit. Oh look, there's an animal, let's kill it and eat it, or maybe we'll just kill it for fun. Oh look, there's a tree, let's cut it down and burn it for fuel or build a house from it. Oh look, there's another human, let's kill him and take his property or better yet let's enslave him and make him work for us. It's very tough to think of one thing we've done which wouldn't have turned out better if we'd never existed.
I post it because I believe in a different view of the world as you do, and that's okay.
I see your points. I see how humanity is. I see how it has worn away what our world has the capacity to encompass. I can see the reason and facts of past and current state of the world.
However. 💗
I simply don't believe that's the say all to all that is humanity. Simple as that for me, I don't feel confused on the innate ability to want to create and heal my environment. & I'm sure I'm not alone in that thought as well.
This is a thread for positive insight, light humor and inspiring quotes, I'm not really here on this site to discuss why or why not we should consider terminology of something so easy to consider in our day to day, as Meliorism.
& Re-reading this response, it seems I may be actively using that term as we speak. 😆
This is meant to be neutral and I hope it is taken that way. Have a nice day. 😊

@MissAdventurous I totally agree. You cannot say humanity is self-serving and uncaring as a blanket statement as the other poster did. Many of the people in power may be self-serving but there are many people trying to change. And the word ameliorate is the verb cousin of meliorism and is even more powerful as it is a course of action. There are millions of people trying to ameliorate the current situation of our planet.
@hogboblin I hope you are not counting me as an adult.

"When you're young, not much matters. When you find something that you care about, then that's all you've got. When you go to sleep, at night you dream of {cuddling}. When you wake up, it's the same thing; it's there in your face. You can't escape it. Sometimes when you're young, the only place to go is inside. That's just it. {Cuddling} is what I love. Take that away from me, and I really got nothin'."
