Best ways to use texting when building a cuddle partnership

[Deleted User]Bles (deleted user)

Texting is convenient and efficient. But it is impersonal and isolating. At times even dehumanizing when short hand is used. Or when it is only used. It allows people to comfortably express their thoughts in a new situation and so be more authentic. But it also creates confusion and misunderstanding without appropriate follow up and feedback. So how can one use texting to achieve a balance between communicating important information and sharing and navigating difficult emotions especially when building a platonic cuddling partnership?

    ...what?

It’s up to the people involved. They’ll get whatever they put in. There’s no surefire way to make conversation worthwhile—whether the persons are communicating through text, letters, a phone call, Morse code, or even if they’re standing a few feet away from each other.

  • Seriously? This is a topic?

  • @MrFirefighter I know, some of these pop psychology threads are over the top.

What people write, say, and do can be dramatically different. Part of that has to do with how the brain operates when engaging in each. In some instances, it's important to minimize one over the other. For example, I once had a girlfriend that I got into fights with during txts. When we were together we didn't have a care, and our phone calls were just one continuous laugh fest. So for the sake of the relationship, I just kept the txts to a minimum and it worked. I don't always sum people up on CC by what they write. The way in which people use words in a txt is not always congruent with their facial expressions, the sound of their voice or their actions. I rely more on intuitive signals like body language, eye contact, vocal inflection or spontaneous word choices.

  • There sure is a lot of effort to intellectualize what is an activity built around feelings. Not just in this thread, but most of them

  • @SpartanGuy yup. Will not argue that at all.

Personally I would say, there is no right or wrong answer as to how to use texting. However, one important caveat. Texting does build intimacy, especially if you start texting daily or very often - so people are more likely to catch romantic feelings and start getting emotionally attached.

  • I have texted people everyday for extended lengths and have never had those butterflies in my stomach. I need to be physically around that person to see how much I am attracted to them, how interesting they are, what their body language and facial expressions say when they speak and how much I can tolerate of them on the days they annoy me—then I might develop a romantic attachment.

I think it depends on the person. But I view texting as words stripped of multidimensional context. They convey some information but you never know when the author is smirking while composing.

  • @Bles why are you starting threads with leading questions on purpose though trying to appear as if you're 'just asking'?

  • @btrmc The same question has been going through my mind as well. Some people want to turn platonic cuddling into quantum physics.

  • Worst topic ever posted. 😂

  • @BillBean idk there are a lot of "what do I do with my erection?" threads.

Yeah , perhaps texting could be useful , if you got that far to give numbers to one another . It could even cause a crumbling in a budding relationship .

    Maybe if
U r tu tip lik dis...
    the other

  • Hmm use emojis and voice messages to add to it
