Disturbing moderation

I’m finding it troubling that comments and even threads are being deleted. I feel like some discussions should be had and shared. I do understand closing threads after they become useless but the record is there.

Recently I’ve commented on a thread when several comments disappeared. All of them weren’t mean spirited, granted some may have been, but some were bringing perspective(mine)

Also a thread started today that was probably controversial but i think up for valid discussion. I was in the middle of posting some incite to the discussion and it disappeared.

I understand that moderators are trying to keep some order in these forums, but i feel it’s getting to be quick and somewhat quick with judgement.

    Mods are clearly acting up. I've noticed the same thing. Too sensitive. Just like how it's 'racist' to call the Corona Virus the Chinese or Wuhan Virus. Umm, it originated there and their government tried to cover it up. People are getting a little cabin fever in em and sometimes it manifests in forums.

    Calling it a "Chinese Virus" like our inconsiderate President Trump did just inflames blame on a certain country, culture, or race.

    There's already been enough violence, vandalism, and discrimination based on the virus scare, continuing to use a suggestive and inaccurate misnomer will just perpetuate it.

    @UKGuy i do understand the forum rules, but I’m referring to questions for clarification. Or statement la that may include things as examples. Sometimes the conversation is going to step outside of bounds for reference.

    @LucidDreams84 @davebutton i do think labeling a virus like that can be an issue. Especially when there is no reason to, it’s clearly a virus that’s welcome all over the world.

    In fact, the Huanan Seafood market has been shutdown because it was a direct source of Covid-19.

    I've had threads I posted on disappear. One time before it disappeared I clicked on it and it said I didn't have permission to do that. The next time I refreshed it disappeared. I thought I said something wrong and therefore the thread disappeared. Why would it say I don't have permission to read it and why do threads disappear?

    I can see why they've been keeping a keen eye! Just did I make my account and I've seen two naughties from the rude establishments round these parts listing as "professionals".

    At the risk of being banned, I agree with OP. It also seems they are quick to ban non-pros, but are slow to (or not at all) ban "naughty" pros the site makes money from. I would say more but that certainly would get me banned. Fingers crossed this Forum topic doesn't get deleted.

    Actually the virus is not called chinese virus its called covid 19 and is a corona virus.
    Hate crimes against Chinese is a legit problem. So ignorantly calling it the chinese virus is not only dumb but dangerous for those who are chinese.
    What about all the bird flu varieties that have originated in china. We don't call those Chinese virus. That wouldn't make sense either.

    Most of the reason being that this is not twitter for those types of discussions to be had. People coming on a site intended to bring people together to cuddle constantly being used to politicize or express opinions on political views etc on here. Stick to cuddling and questions or discussions about it and you won’t have issues.

    If people feel badly towards the Chinese government or Wuhan market traders, fine. However, the risk is that people take it out on Chinese people generally.

    An UK pediatrician was assaulted because her job title sounded too much like pedophile.

    Then there was the Jewish man who was punched for sinking the Titanic, because so many Jewish surnames end in "- berg".

    I remember when all hurricanes had female names. Then the feminists complained and now they have to have male names as well. Not saying it's right or wrong, but perceptions change over time and nowadays people are more likely to be offended by small things we all took in our stride years ago.

    I feel like that's a bit different, but I also know some people have experienced their own difficulty in having the same name as a devastating hurricane. But maybe we're just more compassionate right now? Or, at the same time, maybe people are more likely to bully or discriminate someone because of something like this? It's stupid, but I guess we have to be extra compassionate in order to not encourage those idiots bullying or discriminating because of their nationality. 😞🤷

    I WANT admin/mods to remove ridiculous and inflammatory posts and threads.

    Xenophobia and misinformation is rampant and inappropriate. Difference of opinions are fine, but when they devolve into petty political and faith-based pontifications, I'm all for the mod hammer.

    People are more sensitive nowadays, because that is encouraged. Too much unpleasantness, and people will start putting their armour back on.

    Yeah this thread was started for something all together different.

    It was side tracked by the covid-19 discussion. I do believe racist and xenophobic as well as sexist comments should be removed.

    Also notice there was a comment that the moderator removed or edited. It’s visible.

    I was originally talking about comments or threads that vanish, no proof they ever existed.

    Those are the ones i find troubling.

    Also They may be somewhat argumentative on behalf of one party, often the others is for clarification or understanding. When they vanish we loose an opportunity to further grasp the discussion.

    I’m not necessarily trying to blame any mod, but I’m sharing that we are losing something with this practice. I know back and forth arguments and heated discussions become worthless, they should be closed but available for reference.

    Recently a guy asked a question, that was for most of us in here know it’s not part of CC. But it does offer a valid discussion about what is and what isn’t. That guy could very well have been stirring stuff up for other purposes, but i initially didn’t get that impression and i think there was potential for some good dialogue.
