I'm wondering if anyone else has favorite words they've come across that maybe aren't typically part of day to day speech, but that have made an impression for some reason or another - could be their meaning, how they sound, the way(s) used, etc.

Right at this moment a few come to mind...

Juxtaposition ~ I've always liked how this one bounces about (writing,reading, hearing or saying it) it goes from hard to soft, with a whisper in the middle, has 5 syllables (I have a fondness for teeter~totter words!) and it's used to connect like and unlike things together for comparing or contrasting.

Another (a recent find) is my user name.
Quixotic ~ "One who is quixotic may be preoccupied with an unrealistically optimistic or chivalrous approach to life; impractically idealistic."

Being impractically optimistic in my approach to life ~ Is a pretty good description of my overall take on things.

😗🎶 starts whistling, "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life"

And finally, a word I"ve been using for most of my life to convey wanting to hug-on or love-on someone or something ~ Squish. I use it in phrases like:
"I want to squish you!" or "I can't wait to squish on you!"

So imagine my delight to find this:
"A squish is an aromantic crush (although not exclusive to aromantics), a desire for a platonic relationship with a person. Squishes are the platonic and aromantic equivalent to the romantic crush. A squish is a platonic attraction."

Serendipitous serendipity must have been at play for me to find this just weeks after plunging into the CC cuddleverse and within days of realizing I was "platonically crushing" on someone!

    I love to bimble through the country side ~ Bimbling about the farmer's market's flower stalls reminds me of when Francine and I bimbled through a meadow of coneflowers, catchfly and coreopsis on our way to the county fair.....

    Huh... I've been complaining about a miasma for a couple days now and can only hope it's replaced with petrichor... Oh, please, please, please!!! I mean, I don't want to cause a kerfuffle but... the situation isn't at all cromulent!

    Due to my lack of satiety I may have started a blasphemous rumor (DM🎵) about people who grow rhododendrons. I mean some just aren't archetypal gardeners, and many are fine with allowing the lustre of pollen to accumulate on the leaves. Can you imagine?! I've tried explaining the drawbacks to allowing this (impaired photosynthesis, leaf rot, etc) but their reasoning continues to obfuscate me. It's been an endless struggle and I find the only upside comes early in the morning, when the first rays of the sun hits the collected dew, causing an electroluminescent-like glow... I admit, it's kind of pretty ~ but I'm not telling them that!

    I imagine if I felt I was entering an unsafe situation, whispering kumquat over and over might bring about a sense of calm and help steady my nerves.

    Or if I was being threatened, I think screaming it at the top of my lungs might be unexpected enough to stop the aggressors and give me that extra split second I need to make my escape.

    So, kudos to you, I think kumquat is an excellent safe word!!

    My three favourite words are: exsanguination which has a pretty horrific meaning but sounds like the incantation for a spell, amalgamation which both has an interesting meaning/usage and sounds nice as well, and scromelette which sadly isn't in any proper dictionary but I feel should be - and is also an amalgamation.

    Replete = having plenty of something good ( compared to plethora = having too much of something bad ).

    onomatopoeic = a word that sounds like the sound it refers to.

    Mellifluous = ( of a voice ) like honey.

    Sub-optimal = not very good. Often used in reverse emphasis, as the person who survived a month stuck in their car in a snowbank was described as having "Sub-optimal nutrition".

    I didn't think at the onset about putting people's words into sentences, but it's been kind of fun. The extra challenge for me is using them in the order given and for what I've written to make some sort of sense.
    I'll work on yours after my meeting!

    So a new challenge for all:

    Try using other contributor's words ~ to tell a story, in a poem, in a sentence, etc. ~

    Then post what you've come up with...

    Or just continue sharing your favorites!

    @Sideon ~ I've heard murmurings of startling starling murmurations but have only viewed them in vivid videos ~ which may just be fabricated falsehoods for April Fool's Day.

    Holy buckets ~ this becamd a long one!
    But I did it...

    I was upstairs at the library, minding my own business, when this aging hippy stood up across from me, and with her eyes focused way off in the distance she began swishing her hands in front of her face while swaying side to side, as if moving to a song only she could hear. At first I thought she may have been a bit touched, or was suffering a flashback, but all concern for her left me when she started mimicking high-pitched, flute-like sounds! It was at that point I had to pack up to go and nearly performed my own defenestration just to get away.

    As I slung my bag over my shoulder she started singing The 5th Dimension's syzygy ladden classic, The Age of Aquarius. I glanced at her completely dumbfounded then quickly averted my gaze, and began walking downstairs toward the door.

    As I was approaching the exit I could no longer hear the lady, and instead my attention was drawn to a most mellifluous humming from a man just walking in. As he came closer I recognized he was humming Let The Sunshine In.

    As we passed one another, I was staring after him in disbelief. Then, just as I turned to look forward, BAM! I walked right into the closed door and woke up in the basement. Another somnambulist episode and another headache - but this time I'm not sure if it's from hitting the wall, or if it's because I have a repetitious four and half minute song from 1969 stuck in my head on a loop.

    I've been traveling this overgrown path for a number of years, through woods so thick only slivers of light come through during the day. The darkness makes travel slow as I try to skirt the brambles, but even with great care I've often fallen in and been held by the tendrils.

    But recently the conditions of my coddiwomple were altered. I've sensed for some time that I'm nearing the edge, due to the increases in the sun's warmth being carried to me by a slight breeze.

    How delightful to wake at the edge and have to shelter my eyes from this glowing orb rising in the distance. Slowly I notice there are others here too. Some just coming into the clearing like me, some who seem contented in the center, and a few who are returning into the woods.

    It's at this moment I have a sonder, "I'm not alone after all! We all have our paths to traverse, sometimes intersecting with others, sometimes not." For so long I've had this feeling of monachopsis and have been living as a troglodyte stumbling my way through life. How lucky I am to have continued on, just to arrive here, ready for intersection.

    Troglodyte (noun): A person who lives all alone, in seclusion. You could call this type a "hermit" or a "recluse."

    @quixotic_life - I take issue with troglodyte, which is more akin to trolls, which you're not. Not even close.

    How about some IKIGAI:

    a Japanese concept that means "a reason for being". The word refers to having a direction or purpose in life, that which makes one's life worthwhile, and towards which an individual takes spontaneous and willing actions giving them satisfaction and a sense of meaning to life.

    @Sideon ~ I've never seen this and I love it!!!

    I'm actually fortunate enough to have found what my Ikigai is! ~ The hard part is not getting paid enough for all my circles to be in balance...

    Time to look back into school because my wish of being able to step around the degree required is a thing of the past... A yay and a boo to regulations ('yay' that those in the profession are better equipped to do their jobs well, a 'boo' that multiple people within the profession have told me I'm a natural and thought I must already be certified). sigh...

    It's a double edge sword really. I know what I need to do to achieve financial balance, but don't have the means to do it. [Yet.] As of this year I've been where I'm at long enough to qualify for a small amount of tuition assistance and I have the full support of administration to go for it (meaning I'll be able to have a sub cover while I'm in the practicum phase). Now I just need to get over my fear of debt and just do it already!

    And thanks for the graphic!!! ~ I'm going to draw one out and hang it up. I don't know if it's the Libra in me or what, but I like having visuals that remind me to acknowledge imbalances and to figure out ways to do something about them. 😊
