What are your interests and hobbies?

I really have an absurd amount of house plants

I love music and will spend all day watching videos of bands and musicians of all types but usually lean towards the heavier more aggressive styles

I like learning about different religions though I am an atheist. Been reading up on Taoism and also recently have been reading about The Satanic Temple, which is a branch of satanism that focuses on social justice and humanism.

  • Music is a good hobby. I've always enjoyed music, and also started learning guitar a long time ago. I also like playing synthesizer/piano. Sometimes I'll go a while without playing music, but I always enjoy it. I also enjoy browsing music instrument stores and learning about what musical gear bands have used, etc.

I also like tinkering with computers & gadgets, especially if it's something cool or useful to use for the home. Along those lines, I'm a software engineer professionally but also sometimes like working on some personal software projects at home if I have an idea for a piece of software I think might be cool or useful.

Along the same lines with gadget tinkering, every so often I might enjoy working on a project that involves some electronics soldering. That has sometimes combined with my interest in guitars, and I've sometimes done things like swap out the pickups in an electric guitar, etc.

Cooking is also something I occasionally enjoy. Much of the time I'll make something simple to eat, but sometimes I like trying an interesting recipe to cook, or making a batch of spaghetti sauce to freeze for later, and that kind of thing. I enjoy cooking breakfast foods on the weekends - usually I'll cook an omlette with hash browns and sausage on the weekends.

  • Between work, graduate school and the non profit group I volunteer with, sadly I don’t have much time for hobbies. I do read a lot, I generally go though a book a week. I like grilling. My wife and I are also avid movie goers although that’s come to a halt with COVID. I still go into an office every day btw, no working at home for me.

I spend my free time reading, playing video games, and occasionally writing. I'm not sure whether I enjoy any of those things, or if I'm simply trying to distract myself. A fair amount of my free time is spent around @DarrenWalker. I can say with certainty that that time is well spent and enjoyable.

When it comes to reading, I generally prefer history, philosophy, and speculative poetry—the more macabre the better. I'm currently reading Viking Britain: A History, by Thomas Williams.

Darren and I have been going through Yakuza 0 together, which has been fun. He'll translate the Japanese text for me while walking around the game world, and provide more accurate versions of dialogue spoken in cutscenes.

I dream of one day having a bunch of Bad Dragon products kept in pots that are typically used for flowers. Not for any lewd reasons. I just think it would be hilarious.

  • @UltimateChungus ~ Had to look up Bad Dragon!

Lol ~ You should do it!
    They'd be amazing! 🤣😂🤣 🪴🌾

I'm interested in so many things I have a hard time answering someone who asks "what are you interested in?". The downside of this is I can never concentrate on any one subject long enough to become an expert before I start delving into something else. I've started learning various foreign languages, several musical instruments, begun exploring astronomy, begun restoring a couple of antique vehicles. And I've always been interested in nature, photography, art, music, literature, theater, travel and other cultures. There just aren't enough hours in the day or days in the year to pursue everything.

  • I used to be into soccer and martial arts, also reading, and music, and playing video games. Thanks to depression, I'm... just... not anymore.

Learning a new language. I've been trying to teach myself to speak Spanish for the last 8 years. But I just need to make the time to be consistent.

Community volunteering. I have been giving back more of my time and spirit to serving my community at different levels. I truly enjoy it when I can. I have made a commitment to one specific area in the past year. And I'm truly enjoying it. Meeting and engaging with people from all walks of life is part of what makes the experience of giving back fun for me. And I give with all my heart.

Writing and self discovery. I used to write poetry and short stories a long time ago. Recently I've joined a group of like minded folks to reengage my mind in the writing realm again. This time I'm seeking professional guidance on how to frame my stories and express my true identity. Through journalling, writing was a coping mechanism for me. It was my little catharsis. I threw it away while going through a difficult marriage. And I hated that part of my being for many years. Now I'm giving myself permission to rediscover my writing itch and rework and reframe it in a more constructive way than I did twenty years ago. Hopefully the seasoned writers I'm currently embracing as my mentors will help me to reignite my adolescent dream of becoming a novelist.
