With the ongoing COVID situation, has it forced you to make changes to your plans? This is the first year that I won't get to see my grand parents.
Probably going to have family come over, both my own and my brothers gf's family. But I don't really do the holidays myself.
I'm not waiting for Thanksgiving to put up Christmas lights, the leg lamp from a Christmas Story, a silver tinsel tree with projected and endless color combination lights. They're going up as soon as I plant 300 tulip bulbs and violas...
Just because travel is unlikely doesn't mean the holidays have to suck.
Yesssss @Sideon
@Sideon ~ Yay for your mindset!! 💗
Comments on plans now being reworked because I was being a grumpalupagus!
...tbc...
Working the entire Thanksgiving week-taking everyone else to their loved ones 😩 I won’t get to go home until the 30th.
Thanksgiving: I will get a can of turkey chili, a can of jellied cranberry sauce, and a single stack of crackers to eat with the chili. Born & raised in the suburbs of the city nicknamed Chilitown USA, turkey chili is the perfect way to celebrate my roots and eat the traditional meat of the holiday. Christmas: I mentioned in another thread that I will not be visiting anyone on Christmas Day because my mother told me to go to my parents’ house the day after since I don’t wanna go to her only living relatives’ home an hour and a half drive each way from my parents’ house. New Year’s: I will be flying home from Cincinnati on New Year’s Eve, arriving home to the West Coast plenty of hours before 21:00 local time. I will tune-in online at TimesSquareBall.net at 20:55 U.S. Pacific Time to watch the ball drop since it is done at midnight U.S. Eastern Time. If I stay in Cincinnati through New Year’s Day I know I’ll be jet-lagged and in a questionable state of mind a lot longer because of staying up until midnight then flying home so I’ll just come home on New Year’s Eve and get to see the ball drop early.
I’m dual citizenship so I’ve already celebrated my Canadian thanksgiving lol so for Xmas I’m not changing anything. I’m still heading to Florida and celebrating Xmas poolside with a Canada Dry ginger ale lol 😂
Hmm....
I don't celebrate holidays. If the people I'm close to do then I'll probably be there while they're celebrating, right? But I'm not really a celebration sort of person myself. Which makes sense, given that my time sense is so terrible I sometimes lose track of what year it is, never mind the day. Easier to let other people handle these things. Which means that Covid has changed virtually nothing for me in this area! (It was moving out of the state my family lives in that did that.)
Also, since I won't be working on either Thanksgiving or Christmas or New Year's, I'll probably be lying around reading and drinking tea, or maybe playing with these Snap Ship toys I bought earlier, 'cause they're fun. Or just trying to figure out one of these Hanayama cast puzzles... you know, just the stuff I usually do on my nights off.
Which I suppose makes every free day a holiday for me. Not bad!
Spending time with family. Of course, COVID hangs about like a Christmas decoration. But it’s been a year and far too long. Thanksgiving: Turkey dinner and tamales. Christmas: Bacalao and tamales. New Year’s: Tamales and tamales. It’s my favorite time of the year.
@Sheena123 Have you tried Reed’s Extra Ginger Brew? It’s a special treat for me. I sip it slow.
@cualtzin Reed’s is actual ginger. It is fantastic! Canada Dry and Seagrams are wannabes compared to Reed’s.
@FunCartel I drink ginger ale like water, so I also drink Diet Canada Dry, to moderate the sugar. For fun, I like to mix it with a little OJ.
I've always preferred having smaller gatherings, so it won't change much. I'll be celebrating with just a few close friends and family that I trust have been staying safe.
I plan on staying in GA for Thanksgiving and then traveling to NY for Christmas and New Year's Day.
Alone. My family doesn’t treat covid very seriously at all.
going back to Washington
Why I don't celebrate holidays (beyond Halloween) is my birthday is between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Like a week after Thanksgiving (give or take) and three weeks to the day of the week before Christmas. Kinda ruins all three if I'm being honest.
I made lacto-fermented ginger ale once. It was awesome. Reed's is right up there.
Thanksgiving - no clue. Might volunteer somewhere. Christmas - my child is coming! my child is coming! Trying to lure her dad to come also to my new little house. Very happy about this. I'll be doing a tree and getting out the ornaments and stuffing stockings and making food and pampering her since she'll be just done with finals and probably in tatters.
I have already lined up multiple volunteering activities as well as a trip to enjoy Thanksgiving with my son in Northern California.
Ill be getting paid overtime while working thanksgiving And maybe christmas too
@cualtzin Trader Joe’s has a pretty good ginger brew. It comes in a big bottle. Most times I add a bit of water in to cut the sugar.
@Lilaheart You’re right! But it seems to disappear so quickly where I live. I think people buy it by the case.
@Lilaheart & @cualtzin ~ Lol ~ I thought of the same thing and ours was out too! So good (but too many are hip to it)!
@cualtzin @quixotic_life oh no! For the month of October TJ’s called it Witches Brew 😆 I thought that was cool. Its a seasonal product so I’m sorry they keep selling out before you could by any. Also, I always wondered about Reeds, now I Lil definitely have to add that to my order ☺️
IDK how I'm celebrating the "traditional" holidays yet, but I got a snow storm warning text from Fema today, and just spent the last hour or so getting the car ready! I highly doubt it'll snow where I'm at, but I have Vetran's Day off, so my plan is to wake up early to drive up the steep hill to the east (Mt. Hood) and go stomp around in it up there (6-12" between tomorrow eve and Thursday morning)! 🌨🗻☃️🥶❄👍
