That's enough trolling, @ep87 . Welcome to forum timeout for a week.
Carry on, folks.
Delete. Sorry Sideon
@OhioMike: It's been rough for everybody this past year, I think, and it's tough to know where to look for help, what to Google, which keywords will get you the information you need to get to a better place. Support systems really help. Who would've guessed humans are a social species! Community is a good thing to have.
Even if you didn't think to tell all the pro cuddlers you know about the PPP, I'm sure you supported them in other ways. For one thing, you're definitely an uplifting presence on the forums! And I'm glad you made it through 2020 yourself.
@DarrenWalker awwww. Thank you for the kindness. Even though we are in a tough spot we still need people and their help for sure 😊
@OhioMike: More than ever, I'd say (even if at a distance). You're welcome!
And thanks, @Sideon.
Wow, just woke up to this thread. @DarrenWalker @OhioMike
You two tried your best to deal with an irrational person. I have admired your input on previous threads also. My dad told me once if you are going to get into a battle of wits with someone make sure they are armed. I think you were dealing with the unarmed.
"Never get into an argument with somebody who is stupid. They will bring you down to their level then beat you with experience."
I don't think that's what happened here, but worth remembering all the same.
For the record, pro cuddlers here are definitely independent contractors. We do not work for CC and they consider the site to be a social networking platform, not an employer, so they do not provide liability insurance nor tax forms. I’d have to ask a CPA, but I would guess the CC fees that we pros pay would be considered marketing expenses.
Most pro cuddlers would fall legally into the “sole proprietorship” category, which is eligible for PPP if the correct records are provided. One does not need a 1099, but just needed to have claimed small business income on a Schedule C form when they filed their taxes in either 2019 or 2020. Other cuddlers work in partnerships. I know a few with LLCs, especially if they also have a massage business:
@loveisjustachem, I don’t know any cuddlers who claimed unemployment, but my housemate did receive full benefits after working with just 2 private tutoring students in December 2019. His only documentation was PayPal receipts and emails documenting the appointments. It’s worth a shot to look into it if you can dig up the receipts. Best of luck!
A few things, then ya'll can carry on:
1) Agreeing to disagree is fine. Personal attacks are not fine, so please don't.
2) CuddleComfort is not an employer. CC does not pay Pros, and does not send out 1099s. CC does not provide tax advice - talk to a tax accountant.
3) Equating sex workers and cuddle Pros is a very quick way to be corrected by the community, including moderators.
Edit: Sorry, @BellaSera , I didn't see your post before I submitted mine.
No worries, @Sideon, glad to have the backup!
@BellaSera when you say you guess that your fees paid to Cc could be considered marketing expenses , I direct you to line 10 IRS schedule c ( profit and loss , or P & L statement affectionately called Pretend and Lie statement) commissions and fees . That is where I would itemize your commission fees paid to cc .. furthermore reading the instructions fees 600 or more create paper trail ie makes necessary cc pro filing form 1099-nec to the IRS identifying website owner as recipient of fees , certainly there’s an IRS agent sending Dept of treasury uk info on website owner Pursuant to US-UK tax treaty
@cuddlerforu24 But Cuddle Comfort isn't an employer, it's a social website where people are selling an unregulated product (cuddles). It's literally the equivalent of being on Facebook Marketplace, paying for their ads, and offering to do tarot readings, dump hauls, or portraits of someone's pet as a service or something. So no, Cuddle Comfort doesn't need to issue 1099s. Facebook does issue 1099s, because they pay out to sellers, or something along those lines. I'm sure CC covered their own asses in this department and know what they need to do or not do.
@Mark
@Catloaf it’s all explained in the forms instructions , under Part 2 ( business expenses) line 10 enter commissions and fees paid. If $600.oo or more to one person, group, company , ...... payer ( business owner ) files form 1099-nec identifying recipient of fees . The form says state ... Name , address, country , zip code or foreign postal code etc of who the fees were paid too . It has nothing to do with a typical 1099 miscellaneous income form that a business might issue
I appreciate the insight, @cuddlerforu24. I read through the instructions for 1099-NEC and it specifies things like attorneys fees and real estate commissions, so it doesn't seem to be a perfect fit. NEC may cover referral fees, I'll investigate. One would have to have booked $4k* in business through CC before this became relevant anyway. I am lucky this year, in that I didn't start cuddling until Nov 2020, so my fees paid out weren't quite that high yet. It's definitely worth looking into, though, for next year.
@BellaSera you say 10k in bookings let’s see... to reach the 600 in commissions threshold that would be only 4000 in bookings so let’s see 4000 times 15 per cent is 4000x.15 = 600. So only 40 one hour 100/ hr sessions that s 40 divided by 12 is 3.33 one hour sessions per month that one every ten days , doable
@cuddlerforu24, Omg, is my face red. Yes, $4k in bookings = $600 in CC fees.
I imagine many cuddlers do make that, but not all work as consistently as you might imagine. Again, I only cuddled for a few weeks in 2020, so it wasn’t relevant for me this year, but it’s worth looking into.
Are you considered a Cuddlecomfort employee ? Is this like a Grubhub work relationship ?
@jab65, no, CC is not an employer. Pros are not paid by or through CC, they collect money directly from clients. Pros then pay a commission fee to CC, which equates to 15% of the booking fee.
@BellaSera The Pros an paying for the website expenses. Does it cost to become a Pros ?
@jab65 this information is on the CC home page if you are interested in reading that. Have a great weekend 😊
