Inner Monologue/ How old are you on the inside?

edited September 2021 in General

Some days I feel more like a silly, hyperactive child who is trying really hard to convince others that I am an adult. There is often a huge discrepancy between what I want to say and what I think I am supposed to say. Does anyone else feel this way? How old would you say you are on the inside?

  • I’m definitely a kid at heart lol always have / always will be, I wish I can choose the 1st 4 options lol but for sake of the poll I’ll choose high school ☺️

I'm not sure I can really describe it.

    So, I clicked "Other".

But the last decade has aged me, jaded me, wearied me, in ways I can't explain.

It isn't even hopelessness, it is more resignation.

I am no longer expecting, or even hoping, for good things to happen. I am simply fighting off the worst things, and gritting my teeth as one bad thing after another lands on us without a thing I can do to change it.

  • I feel like a 22 year old with the wisdom and experience of someone much older! 😂🤣

  • How old am I on the inside? On what day? At what hour? That varies.

As for what I’m thinking and what I say, that depends on the situation. There are times when diplomacy and self-censorship are the wiser choice. There are other times when it’s not. I try to live my life as authentically as I am able. Within that framework, I accept that sometimes saying what I think and feel is not the best choice.

How old you feel on the inside is relative to your actual physical age.

  • I’m an old soul I’d probably be 102😂

  • No range selected... I think I've either entered the age where my inner age will inevitably be half my physical age or I'm just stuck in my early twenties and occasionally [uh-hem often] act half that.

I chose “other“ because it’s always changing. In general, though, I feel every bit as old as I am. I just have too many responsibilities and too much life experience to feel younger than I am most of the time. People tell me I look younger than I am, but I can’t say I really feel younger than I am, except sometimes. And sometimes I feel older than I am.

On a related note, I felt like a “boy” until I went to college; then I felt like a “guy” until I was 27— that’s I bought my first car and got the first apartment I ever lived in in my own. For the first time in my life, I felt like a “man.“ At 27!

At 54, I definitely feel middle-aged. I mean, I don’t know if I’m going to live to be over 100, so I’ve been considering myself middle-aged at least since I turned 50. I’d say that feeling actually started to come on in my late 40s.

I’m already old enough to be a grandfather, but I guess the next phase is feeling like an “old man” — which I’m hoping won’t be for another about 15–20 years! 😅

To bring it around to cuddling, I must say that although I feel a lot of fatherly energy when I cuddle, I also feel boyish energy. It seems like when I’m cuddling, the past and the present come full circle.

  • 86, with dementia.

  • I'm ever young. I don't feel my age at all.

  • It's interesting, for most of my childhood and 20s I always felt older on the inside than I was. But since around the time I turned 30. I feel like my age. It makes me wonder if there will be a tipping point and one day I will feel younger than my age too. Or if I just am more settled now.

How do you define 'old', if not by age, by what? I have two daughters, one in her 20's and one just turned 30. I consider myself more alive than either of them. I'm more active, physically and mentally than they are, interested in more things, more curious about the world, more open to new ideas, I read more, travel more, experience more and I'm far more organized. Due to their younger age, they should have much more energy than me but their chief leisure activity is their cell-phones.

  • I feel like I'm just a cool hip grandma on the inside. Count me happy to just sit and crochet a blanket in the winter.

  • @UKGuy lol @ “they should have much more energy than me but their chief leisure activity is their cell-phones.” 😅

hey, just like @Lazarus101 mentions, something as simple as crocheting 🧶 a blanket would be tremendously fulfilling & alive for some 😝
