What would you tell your younger self? 🧐

edited October 2021 in General

There was an interesting comment made in the "time travel" post. @BlueEyes24 mentioned going back to help "prevent a few key personal choices in my life that would lead me on to a greater future."

I'm curious to know how many of you feel like going back to your younger YOU (no matter how many YEARS you might have to travel.....😂🤣😁) to try and prevent actions or maybe even encourage others.

Share your story or journey if you would like to and if you don't want to and choose to resist the pressure of this post then THANK YOU FOR TAKING CARE OF YOU!

  • Although there have been some painful consequences to some of my less wise decisions in life, I absolutely love where I am today.

I would hesitate to change anything in the past, because it might change the course of my life in ways that are unexpected.

That said, if I had to say anything to a younger me, it would be this:

    "Self care is not selfishness"
"It is normal and healthy to have emotions"
"You are worthy of love from yourself and others"

  • Yes!! I for sure would tell myself to:
    1. Go into debt and get an education you can prove with paper!!
    2. Wear a helmet!! You may look like an idiot being the only one on the slopes with one, but better to look like one than suffer the consequences of multiple concussions.
    3. Treat yourself with kindness and care. It sets an example for others to follow (and you're worth it).
    4. Do more things so you have more stories.
    5. Birds of a feather... So step outside your comfort zone and stay in touch with those you hold dear. Because none of you will use Facebook and cellphones will make successful searches near impossible.

I would tell my younger self to invest in Google, etc...

Beyond that I would also tell my younger self to trust no one, attach yourself to no one, and certainly never defer any of your needs and dreams for anyone else.

  • All of those choices. But most especially - the need to be my own guardian and learn that I have the right to say no, and the right to enforce my no. Had I learned this young my life would have gone is a completely different direction…with a whole lot less suffering.

  • I would tell myself do NOT buy that 4 family building, you will regret it.

  • I doubt my younger self would have listened.

  • My younger self was wayyy to naive & oblivious … I can see myself trying to give my younger self some solid advice , & my younger self saying “yes I understand”… & being polite … while not understanding anything at all.

  • I would tell myself to ask the girls out I was too shy to speak to. Because even if they'd said 'no', I wouldn't regret not asking for years afterwards.

  • @UKGuy - I don’t know how many times in my adult life a guy has told me that he had been interested in me when we were younger but they were too shy to tell me. Augh! Then again, I was so screwed up, maybe they were better off.

  • @UKGuy - you're right. I did ask them. They all said no. But I have no regrets about not asking.

And it was good practice. Now, in later life, I sometimes find myself saying 'no' to them.

  • I will tell myself not to buy the extended warranty

  • OMGOSH!!! Such interesting perspectives. 😊

😂😂😂 Don’t buy the warranty OR the four plex hahaha

This has always been something I have pondered.... Would I have been like @cuddles_ndream and said the polite thing, but not taken anything to heart? Would I have been able to express my truth, instead of being too wrapped up in trying to keep up appearances and make everyone feel safe? Some things that came easily like hoping the best out of people led to very painful experiences when they turned out to be NOT as good as they purported. Do I really think I could've convinced my younger self to be more wary? like @FunCartel I question whether my younger self would've listened.

There seems to be a thread of continuity here.... We (those of us who have something to tell the youthful version of us) have expressed a bit of "Make sure you don't forget that its important to take care of you." Even Mr. @UKGuy who was maybe too shy to ask the girls.... If you would've gone out on a limb to ask, but learning how to still feel valuable if someone says no. That seems like a BIG moment of "Taking care of Yourself."

I wish I could somehow convince my younger Sass that she had value as a human NO MATTER if someone agreed or disagreed. Being kind to that young girl would've changed a few of my choices along the way, but I still wonder if I would've wound up with a similar thought process now. Would I have just had different painful lessons that maybe brought me to this awareness sooner? Or would it have delayed it?

I can't even imagine my life before the Cuddle world and the thing that brought me here was the painful experiences..... Would I actually be willing to trade those experiences for these? Hmmmmmm..... There is a lot of pondering over here in the beautiful mountainous midday.

  • "Give 100%. Whatever you are doing, give it all of your effort. And give more." There are things that I cannot control, that have led to where I am now. But the things I can control, I could give better effort, and I could have given more to others.

I would have listened to my dad more. He’s a good, successful man and a lot of it comes from good habits he tried to instill in me. I didn’t realize the importance of those habits until I started working. Success in work requires different skills than success as a student.

  • 10 years ago. Buy more Tesla, yes you should mine Bitcoin (that Silk Road stuff is just a moment in time) drink more water less soda. Limit red meat to 3 times a month and at least go walk for 30 minutes if you don’t feel like working out. You will have a home on Maui and enough FU money to never have another 9 to 5.

  • Positively adhere to Law of Attraction ASAP.

    buy Google stocks

  • Google, Amazon, Bitcoin

  • Learn and read more

  • There are things that I cannot control
Buy the right kind of stocks
    Read and LEARN more
    TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
    Treat yourself with kindness

CREATE HABITS YOU WANT TO CONTINUE FOREVER!! 💗💗💗

It does seem like HABITS are a thing that reaches every corner of our lives. Good or bad habits affect us tremendously.

I wish I would've mentioned to my younger self how important it is to find at least one positive and grateful thing to say about my world every day. Its amazing how if you just start saying nice things and it becomes a habit then how easy it becomes to do it more and more.

I love these ideas!! You all are so fantastic. Thank you for being willing to share thoughts and experiences. 😊

    • Establish daily/weekly rituals that support and sustain yourself.
    • Make yourself a priority.
    • Everything in moderation, including moderation.
    • Don't mix red shirts with whites in the laundry, ever.
    • Listen to your body, listen to your heart. When your inner critic gets noisy, tell him/her/they to shush.
    • Pancakes aren't just for breakfast, and chocolate cake isn't just for desserts.
    • You cannot hit what you don't aim at, so fling those arrows - adapted per the wisdom of Shang Chi of the Marvel comics.
    • Travel. See the world. Enjoy the provincial foods, break bread with the locals, and be a humble guest in their world.
    • Horrible manager/boss/company? Yes, say those inside-voice things out loud. In a public meeting. You were going to quit, anyway...

I do/did all these things and do/will do them again.

  • I would tell myself to move out of my parent's house earlier and not listen to them.

  • Wouldn’t it be nice to go back and fix all our mistakes of the past? But isn’t it also from those same mistakes we learn and grow. That’s what makes us who we are and helps guide our future selves.

  • @blisscuddles oh my. Yes...... I have thought that VERY thing! I can't imagine not finding this world of like minded peeps…. BUT It was a VERY painful experience that brought me here. If I could've prevented the "mistakes" I wouldn't have found such a beautiful community. So so so interesting in the idea of our growth and change.

@Melancholy I wonder if your parents feel the same way?? hahahahha As a Mom, I often tell my children "I am a REALLY good teacher. SOMETIMES you are going to have to relearn the icky stuff I taught you even though I thought it was the right thing."

    @sideon FLING THE ARROWS indeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed!!!!!!!!

  • Prioritize yourself.

  • If I could go back, I would tell myself not to get into that abusive relationship.
However, since that doesn’t address the real issue and I probably would’ve fallen into another one anyways. What could I do so address the real issue? I was living a life of questioning my worth and second guessing genuine affection.
I could go way back and tell 6 year old me that she is not a burden and that I will love her no matter what. But actions speak louder than words and she would’ve had to live through all the bs she did anyways.

There’s not one single thing I can think of that could’ve drastically changed where i am today for the better- except of course, anything regarding money.
Still, I am grateful for where I am. After a lifetime of suffering, I am staring to feel happy and this community is helping me understand and form genuine inter-human connections.

Awwwwwwwwww @applepie55 💗💗💗 Yes. THIS! AND Welcome to the community!!

  • @applepie55 im really appreciating your openness with us all… Ty! I could definitely relate 🌌 ♥️

  • I would go back about 25 years ago and tell myself to buy Apple stock in the early 2000s. Then I would tell myself to quit focusing so much on my education and career and find a cuddle partner sooner rather than later. I wish I had found a site like this 25 years ago - it would have seriously changed the course of my life.
