Is it a new thing to celebrate Cinco De Mayo on May 6th? It seems like a new thing or maybe my friends are wanting to make it a thing. I was getting ice cream today and my friend mentioned his a neighborhood block party to celebrate on today.
Yes it is a new thing … they figured that if they start cinco de Mayo 1 day letter, there would be less gathering & more social distancing.
No. it shouldn’t be. It’s like celebrating the 4th of July on the 5th. The date is the date.

A block party on a Thursday would be idiotic. So it totally makes sense they chose Friday instead. Though here it likely would have been pushed to Saturday (it's easier to get the street closure permits approved for weekends here).
