@zerocantaloupe:
As someone who has posted completely untrue information, and wasn't coddled, and found myself stung into vigorous (and embarrassed) improvement—I'm with @GreatHornedOwl.
Even if the folks who scoffed at my misinformation were less interested in my well-being than in the well-being of those my misinformation endangered, they still helped me. These days, if I'm unsure about something I don't state it as fact, and if you read my comments often you'll probably notice the high incidence of reference links. I'm less intellectually lazy now than I used to be. I like that.
As someone who was heavily abused as a child, I understand the knee-jerk response to something others see as harmless.
For instance, seeing any attempt at changing someone else's behavior tenses every muscle in my body in anticipation of an actual physical attack, because these two things were always linked in my childhood. But when I ask myself where the power actually is and what's actually happening... well. That changes things.
"You have no evidence. Doing even a little research reveals that there is no evidence. You didn't do your due diligence, and that could have hurt someone."
It's blunt. It's undiplomatic. But it's not an attack on a person: it's an attack on false information and irresponsible behavior.
Seeing that, this abuse survivor breathed again.
