  • Happy June to my rainbow 🌈 peeps 💕

  • Thank you. And special regards to everyone who makes Pride Month necessary.

  • @Unscented_Lemon I'm so sorry you were targeted. We as a community need to do better.

We need to get this thread back on topic, so please try to resist feeding the trolls, y'all, and just report. They deserve to be ignored and given the silent treatment for acting so willfully childish.

Wow, so much to say about this thread if I were not self censoring. I totally support our Rainbow People and really don't relate to those who are afraid of other humans who are different in a certain way. Reality is we are all very different than each other. Seems like differences should be either embraced or if that is not possible then ignored and continue moving on. Choose to be kind even when you don't like or disagree.

  • Thank you, mods 💖

  • @pmvines yes it’s definitely overlooked a lot and also frowned upon by much of society. Society these days has put a lot of new burden on men and unfortunately that’s a part of the reason male S/I rates have continued to increase so drastically. I’m not trying to tear down on this conversation by the way. I just wanted to speak my mind respectfully. I hope everyone understands.

  • @Sheena123 I really hope your "Wishing the Homophobes an uncomfortable month" post doesn't include genuinely nice people that don't necessarily agree with that lifestyle

  • @Hugsman74 "genuinely nice people" don't give a flying fig what other people do in their private lives, and certainly don't care so much that they read themselves into statements about hate. Perhaps you should examine why you're more worried that "people who don't agree with that lifestyle" might be uncomfortable than the fact that "genuinely nice people" are causing LGBTQIA+ folks harm still, in 2023, to the point that we still need a Pride Month more than 50 years after Stonewall.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people feel threatened by minorities simply existing and trying to get equitable representation and protections.

  • @Hugsman74 there’s a difference between “homophobes” and “genuinely nice people”. Those two types don’t mix together. The end.

  • @cuddlefaery No need to get aggressive. I do see where you're coming from. It's just that I've met some genuinely nice people that don't quite agree with the LGBT community's views, but they still value them as human beings.

    @Sheena123 I see where you're coming from

My high school class was very close. At our first reunion, a woman who was very dear to us wasn't there. In the program book, it said she had died. We were all very shocked and saddened.

Then, some years later, I saw her on social media. Turned out she hadn't known anything about the reunion. When the reunion people called her family home looking for her, her mother told them Katie was dead. All because she had come out and her family couldn't deal with it. (Fortunately, Katie is leading a happy life and is heavily involved in LGBTQ+ activism.)

When my daughter was old enough, I made sure to tell her that who she loved someday would not change one bit how I felt about her. All I would care about is whether or not she was happy and she was being true to herself. I told her to always be who you are, because I will always love who you are.

  • @WriterGF that’s awful 😞

I’m so glad your daughter has a very loving inclusive father 💖💖
I’ll never understand ppl who choose to hate ppl because of something that doesn’t affect them in any way 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

  • @Sheena123 - It's sometimes due to religious reasons even though most religions teach to love one another.

@Sheena123 It's also because many people can't feel good about themselves unless they think someone else is somehow lesser. And it's a skip and a jump from that to dehumanizing the "others" and thereby giving yourself permission to abuse them.

  • Pride is not there to try to convince straight people to be gay. It's there to help gay people survive.

  • @Hugsman74 A person's gender and sexuality are part of them. You can't "value them as human beings" while also being opposed to their gender or sexuality. You can't be a "nice person" while also being anti-LGBT.

  • @unsocial_bee @Hugsman74 said nothing about being opposed to their gender or sexuality. He said some people "that don't quite agree with the LGBT community's views, but they still value them as human beings." There is a difference and yes you can value someone as a human being even if you don't like their lifestyle. It happens every day.

  • The intolerance of people who claim to be so tolerant is getting really disgusting. Hate goes both ways

  • @reifuaoiu - Why even comment if you don't like somebody's lifestyle? Keep it to yourself.

  • @Mike403 I said nothing about not liking their lifestyle. Go away and learn reading comprehension

  • @reifuaoiu - You commented about somebody else saying they didn't approve of their lifestyle.

@Hugsman74 oh, I haven't even begun to get aggressive - just ask the forum regulars who see me do my normal thing 🤣

As @Unscented_Lemon said, you do not in fact value people in the LGBTQIA+ community as human beings if your version of "not agreeing with their lifestyle" involves going out of your way to announce it in a Pride Months celebration thread. Congratulations, "nice person", you've demonstrated how not nice you actually are because you feel the need to unnecessarily announce it someplace that has absolutely nothing to do with you. Good job 👏

Looks like we can welcome @reifuaoiu to camp Let's Make Pride About The Fragile Cishets. On your right you'll see one of our most popular activities: Let's Solve the Tolerance Paradox in 1 Minute or Less!

Also, fun fact - telling homophobic/transphobic people to stop being hateful is not being hateful back. Nice try though.

One person's lifestyle is not anyone else's business.

  • @WriterGF not to mention sexual/romantic orientation and gender identity are not a "lifestyle" - that implies they are a choice. Peoples' lifestyles can either support their orientation and gender, or they may not align (i.e. being closeted, masking, or otherwise presenting outwardly differently than they internally experience).
