What are your October movies?

With October right around the corner, I bought some childhood favorites. Personally, I love when something scary/creepy can be funny so I went with a theme. Fun movies that fit into the style of Holloween, but are more comical than actually scary. Beetlejuice, the Gremlin movies, & the Little Shop of Horrors directors cut. That last one may sound especially jarring if you've only seen the theatrical cut and it ofcourse being a musical, but I couldn't resist seeing the original darker ending lol

Felt like a fun way to lean into October.

What about y'all? Will you go for something goofy with a Gothic edge, or do you have something more spooky in mind for your Holloween?

  • I personally don't like being scared so I lean to the comical, fun Halloween movies.
I love Gremlins and of course The Nightmare Before Christmas.

  • Hocus Pocus of course!

    The Scary Movies line up...

and lets see....Rocky Horror Picture Show

    ๐ŸŽƒ

  • Good call, @Cuddlemagne

And The Goonies just feels like October.

  • I was never allowed to watch horror movies growing up, and then simply wasn't interested in them for the longest time.

The past few years, my boyfriend has been introducing me to some of the well-known horror/zombie/etc. movies, and it's been so much fun!

From the Saw movies to Evil Dead 2, Poltergeist to The Ring, Scream to Resident Evil...it's been amusing and interesting. ๐Ÿคญ Nothing I've seen thus far has scared me (feel free to recommend psychological horrors, perhaps they will work).

My favorites by far have been 28 Days Later and Dawn of the Dead. I would definitely be open to rewatching those, this month.

I would like to finally see A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Friday the 13th. We will also pick up where we left off, on Saw.

Would love some recommendations, including for TV shows...I've never even seen The Walking Dead. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

  • This was my start of fall Friday night!

  • Dont mind the original Ghostbusters and just watched Ghostbusters Afterlife

  • 'Thir13en Ghosts', 'Silent Hill', 'The Conjuring', 'Hocus Pocus', 'Nightmare Before Christmas', and then I'll usually try to watch one new (to me) spooky film. 'The Nun' is probably going to join the lineup this year as well.

  • I've got all the Evil Dead movies on my (re)watchlist, as well as the Exorcist so that'll be perfect. Though I'll probably jsut flick through Netflix/Prime and watch whatever terrible or otherwise movie is recommended haha.

Need to watch Tucker & Dale Vs Evil again too!

  • @DaveTheBrit - Oh man, I love 'Tucker and Dale'! My friend made me watch it and I was so ANNOYED at first because I didn't want to, but then I was cackling like five minutes into it. He was like "See?"

  • Stardust seems like a good one. It's got ghosts, witches, magic, and love.

  • @PixiePassions Ah right! I didn't want to see it at first either, back when I had little faith in modern horror movies. Soon changed that.

  • I'm a year round horror movie fan.

I enjoy the app Shudder -- all horror movies, all the types. All the time. Also, that reimagined creepshow, and the newest season is coming out in October.

  • one of my biggest october traditions is this

when I was about 8 years old, my babysitter allowed me to stay up with her and watch a scary movie on cable, it was the first REAL horror movie I got to see,

    Nightmare on Elm Street 3

she ordered a cheese pizza and I watched the movie and gorged myself on pizza

so every year since it has been an October ritual for me to make a cheese pizza and watch Nightmare on Elm Street 3

this year I'm going all out! instead of throwing a frozen pizza in the oven, I'm getting some pillsbury pizza dough, and wrapping mozzerella sticks in the crust (making it a stuffed crust pizza) the sauce, will be a jar of four cheese alfredo saucel then, I will be topping it with several of my favorite shredded cheese blends

this monstrosity is going to ultimately be a TEN CHEESE pizza, with the following cheeses

    mozzarella
    ricotta
    parmesean
    romano
    asiago
    smoked provalone
    cheddar
    gouda
    swiss
    gruyere

    I can't wait!

  • @Unscented_Lemon - Such a great movie!

    @DaveTheBrit - Yessssss.

    @Lithellyl - That's such a sweet tradition! ๐Ÿฅฐ

  • Halloween. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘ป

My October tradition is to watch at least 1 Vincent Price horror flick, like Pit and the Pendulum, The Raven, House of Wax, etc.

Then we throw in a Hammer film or 2: The Mummy, any one of the Christopher Lee Dracula films...

Absolute must every year is Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein.

Good streaming options: Haunting of Hill House series (scariest ghost story I've seen in years. Superb.), Werewolf by Night is an automatic addition to the Halloween tradition. Turns out Michael Giacchino is an amazing director as well as composer. What a perfect love letter to classic monster movies.

For a look at what might have been a Universal horror universe: Brendan Fraser Mummy and Van Helsing double feature.

I could go on. This is my favorite time of year >.>

  • Bram Stoker's Dracula
    The Keep
    Gremlins
    Van Helsing
    Hellboy

Havent watched any of these for a long while.

  • Little shop of horrors ! I love that one @Shake49

  • Brendan Fraser Mummy lol classic movie โ€ฆ pure gold ! @Drewski1138

  • I love the dedication on the ten cheese pizza ๐Ÿ• ๐Ÿ˜‚ Am I invited ? ๐Ÿ˜‹@Lithellyl !!

  • I watch Halloween, Scream, and Hocus Pocus every single year. It's tradition! This year, I want to watch the last 2 Scream movies as well. I saw the 4th one (and was so unsurprised by who the Baddie was) and nothing since. Hope that they're good!

Can't choose between Alien or The Thing (1982)! Love some suspenseful horror

    Resurrecting this thread :)

Some of my favorites are Rocky Horror Picture Show, Beetlejuice, What We Do In the Shadows (show or movie).

I just saw The Frighteners this year and liked it.
I also watched several I really didn't enjoy.
    I prefer ones with humor.

Pearl is a recent fave. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Dawn of the Dead are some classic faves.

  • [Deleted User]AloneToLong (deleted user)

I'd have to go with Rocky Horror Picture Show. Hopefully at a showing with audience participation.

  • Just recently acquired all the Chucky movies so that's my October sorted now I guess.

Currently watching The Exorcist too somehow for the first time ever.

  • Kinda depends on what I'm in the mood for. I can go from watching the SAW movies and Freddy or Chucky to Hocus Pocus or Ghostbusters...etc.... but I do favor horror most. A few nights ago I feel asleep to the movie Jigsaw.

  • I'm a year round horror movie kinda guy
