What Brings you Joy?

For me, it's certain members of my family who get me like no one else does.

It's old friendships where I've learned to be safe, new friendships where the surprise and delight is still fresh, and all those friendships in between.

It's learning new things about the world, and new things about myself.

It's simple things like a ray of sunshine, a baby's laugh, or a word of encouragement.

And always: it's hugs!

  • Good food.

  • these days, it's free time

  • Lately it’s been my new companion Princess. She is a joy. Plus when I get a chance to cuddle.

  • Office supplies, rain, books, writing, teaching (sometimes), puppies, aesthetics, Nietzsche, prose that reads like poetry, candles, cuddling, my friends, earl gray or black teas in general, warmth (blankies and socks), my besties, notebooks (especially fabric bound hardcovers like the 60-70s books), too many video games to count, music (headphones in all day everyday), my mentor (well that’s more like gratitude. She was recommended by Jane Friedman and she’s been my mentor for 10 years now.), highlighters (expanded color assortments), mythology (especially Greek), Le Morte de Arthur and everything about the Arthurian romances, Poe (to an unhealthy level) went to his grave last year on his birthday to do the annual Poe toaster thing, travel, journaling, planning, to do lists and schedules, watching sunrises or sunsets on the roof deck, tea houses, organizing when my ADHD allows for it, Francesca Lia Block, Scott Westerfield (I told him a few days ago actually that I was pretty sure he’s a prophet. Think about it… he is) and cooking.

Thank you @JoyfulHeart that actually helped my mood. Hugs.

  • @stormydaycuddle Hugs reciprocated with enthusiasm!

BTW, I like office supplies too. Index cards in particular.

  • This thread. So much better than a thread of annoyances and complaints. Thank you @JoyfulHeart .

  • I'm with you there @BoomerSpooner 😁

@BoomerSpooner @MissAdventurous people will complain about negativity then leave a lot of space for it.

@JoyfulHeart I think this thread is the place to be.

  • @stormydaycuddle I get joy out of choosing NOT to feed into those types. 🤣🤣🤣

@MissAdventurous my new familiar shall be a Venus fly trap.

Also, I forgot lavender lemonade on my list, and pride dyed daisies. Ty, by the way.

  • My wife. My dog. My slower than hoped for, but nevertheless continuing recovery from a leg injury. My 37+ years of sobriety. Nieces and nephews. Watching the kids in the neighborhood come by to play with Jennie the Basset Hound when we're outside. Dad jokes. Aunts and uncles that call me up straight outta the blue.

  • Rain for me too, wellies or rain boot as Americans say.

FOOD especially most rice dishes NOT prepared by me.

Making faces with little kids or babies or peek a boos.

    Listening to old women swear.

Seeing someone catch a bus they have ran for.

Noticing teenagers interact with their crushes.

    People Watching.

  • @CallMeMikey Congratulations on your continuing sobriety! I'm creeping up on 8 years, and I'm grateful. I have a very fulfilling life that would not have been possible before.

  • During a cuddle session, in a nice close embrace, we’re talking, someone says something, and then we’re both laughing uncontrollably. That’s a joyful feeling, especially if we’re laughing so hard that tears are coming out of our eyes!

  • So many things

genuine smiles, sharing a good laugh, seeing faces in things, bubbles, odd couple animals, listening to a rainstorm, people cracking themselves up...

cracking creme brule with a spoon, shapes in clouds, googly eye bombing, leaving fairies and gnomes and painted rocks for others to find at parks, gorgeous sunsets, celebrating weird holidays...

a great song ending right when I get to my destination, spoken word poetry, "kids" book, uninhibited dancing, making faces on food...

  • What brings me joy ? Ooo almonds

Music. My 9 week-old puppy. The friends I have made on this site.
