  • Kidnapper: straining himself while lifting me UGH! 🥵 Lady, can you give me a hand here? I'm trying to kidnap you.😒 - @Katota

    I lost it at this part. :lol:

  • @Katota me: "I'm not too worried about it, I could always just sit on the guy." 😂

    Jokes aside, being dead weight is one of the first self defense moves they usually teach. Kicking and fighting has its place, but it also helps put you off balance so sometimes making yourself as heavy and awkward as possible while you rest/think is the move. Being taller and heavier than the average male definitely has been to my advantage a couple times and probably acts as a deterrent.

    Some cultural things could also be at play here.

    @liveninpjs

    1) while absolutely there are cultural differences to how people approach each other based off of gender, that does not excuse what was described here. Even in cultures where staring is "normal", if the woman is uncomfortable you are not supposed to continue making her feel as such.
    2) Do we really want to base how we judge if harm is done or not based off of intent? That's a mighty slippery slope. "I didn't mean to kill her, I just wanted to beat her up a bit." "My intention wasn't to rape her, she just wasn't listening to me!"

    Impact is always more important than intentions. Good intentions does not absolve bad outcomes...and that's assuming there were good intentions in the first place (though I'd argue that staring at a woman because you find her attractive isn't exactly based in good intentions but self gratification).

  • One issue I see is that many men who are socially clueless might do this (stare, etc.) but have no idea the woman is feeling uncomfortable.

  • @cuddlefaery Yes, I agree, though I must admit I've met people who decide to be offended at everyone they meet. To them I offer a respectful nod and then 'on my way.' I'm just trying to see this thread's original situation from every angle. Once intentions are known, however, I feel it entirely changes what an appropriate response would be: Awkward admirer? Understandable, but keep your distance and be respectful. Assault about to go down? Prepare to receive the worst, horror movie-worthy injuries I can dish out, should you try anything. And until those intentions are known, it's a matter of positioning oneself for the best outcome, regardless of what that person's intentions are.
