What does it mean if an account "has been temporarily paused"?

Is "temporary pausing" something I can do to my own account? Is it something different than deactivating? I just keep seeing accounts with all these messages, "banned," "deleted," "deactivate," and couldn't find a glossary. I apologize if there is indeed a glossary that I didn't see

I think there are definitions posted maybe stickied to the top of the general forum.
The following are just what I know though.
And @CuddleDuncan will chime in shortly to offer his own definitions (which will be basically the same as mine) Iโ€™m sureโ€ฆ

Banned - non platonic, broke TOS, duplicate accounts etc.
Paused - Applies to Pros only, waiting to become a Pro or problem with payment method.
Deleted - account is permanently gone
Deactivated - on an indefinite break
Time out - applies to forum behavior.

What about an account who is a pro, has been around for a couple years at least, and is currently showing up as "Paused"?

I believe "paused" is something the site applies, if there is some issue it needs to work out with a pro. If what you want is to turn off your account without actually removing it from the site (so you have the option of coming back), you want to deactivate.

  • Experienced professional on Paused usually means the credit card the site has on file has expired, and so a payment has failed. This of course happens to nearly everybody sooner or later. The account remains Paused until a new card is applied to the account and the payment made, which is obviously entirely in the hands of the professional.

The one missing from the list above is Mute. A muted account does not show up in search results, but can still be messaged if, for example, there is an existing conversation.

  • This is sad news; my favorite cuddler who's been around for years has had her account "paused" for months now ๐Ÿ˜ž

@hugsnotbugs98 Could be something as simple as what CuddleDuncan refers to, but maybe she isn't bothering with this site at present so hasn't addressed whatever the issue is.

  • It is common for professionals to take months or even years off from the site, and then come back. Being Paused can be the trigger for that.
