Perfumes, incense, smoke, and other scents

What is the cuddling community's thoughts on cuddling with someone who wears perfume or smells like smoke? Is it acceptable, tolerable, desirable, a dealbreaker, or just not important at all?

For me, if it's too much perfume (like, I can smell it from 10 feet away) or if it's the smell of smoke, it's a total dealbreaker. On a very positive note though - I do like it when I can just barely detect a hint of perfume or maybe some sweet-smelling perfume or skin cream when cuddling. It's not required, but I do like it.

I usually ask the guy before hand if he wants me to wear my cotton candy or vanilla body spray or if he wants me to come over without it. I also ask if he prefers make up or no make up... I've had men tell me they don't want my cover up on their shirt.

Smoke is always a deal breaker for me. No exceptions....nothing to do with the person but I can not abide the smell as it makes me nauseous.

I can’t stand smoke, cigarettes and marijuana both. I wear an unscented natural deodorant, but sometimes i bring lavender or cinnamon essential oils just to dab on if they want. I recently learned that lavender can cause higher estrogen like hormones in men, so I’ve been shying away from that lately.

I generally avoid scents at home or on myself especially for cuddling because I never know if folks are sensitive as I am with perfumes. Most I'll use is a room air freshener.

That’s a subjective question, too many variables for me to form an opinion. Cigarette smoke isn’t a smell I like personally, so it is a dealbreaker when a home/ person smells like it. The tar and ash is hard to completely clean away.

Cigarette or tobacco smell in the air or on clothes would kill the mood for me. Don't wear perfume unless you want me to sneeze. Furniture polish smell is also unpleasant. And no air-fresheners or incense, I'd rather not breathe in chemicals. A lightly perfumed shampoo or a lightly scented lotion or soap is nice.

I like incense and candles but sometimes I like to read.

Being as my senses are pretty much set to 11 all the time, I tend to avoid perfumes, incense, smoke, etc... but since I live in a basement and lavender oil seems to keep spiders off pretty well, I typically smell like lavender (sometimes, I think, quite strongly). So the smell of lavender doesn't really bug me—I'm used to it. Any other floral scent's a tossup, though. And smoke? No to the smoke. So much no to the smoke. It burns worse than almost anything else. Pain isn't great for a cuddle.

I like the smell of cinnamon. And cloves. And I always like to read, but... hmm. "But" is an interesting conjunction. @doggycuddles, I've never had trouble reading because of incense and candles. Scent has never impeded my vision yet!

@Keira where do you get vanilla and cotton candy body spary? That sound like a great idea

My daughter has this shower gel called 'Snow Fairy'. It's from a Canadian company called Lush. It smells indescribably good and does not irritate me, although it does contain some synthetic ingredients.

Smoking is a deal breaker for me.

Body sprays, etc. can be negotiated.

Both are deal breakers for me. I have a serious sensitivity to a lot of fragrances.

I know its probably weird but the smell of cigarette smoke clinging to a jacket or something makes me feel a lot more comfortable as long as it's not like more than one pack a day strong

I can not take cigarette smell, but I’m ok with marijuana smell as long as it’s vaped as it disappears faster. I think essential oils set the mood but I also go by what the clients needs and request.

A barely there perfume/cologne/body wash light scent is nice, but not necessary. Cigarette or any other type of smoke smell is about the same as smelling fresh skunk, to me.

I get migraines from a lot of fragrances so any kind of perfume, scented candles, etc., is a dealbreaker for me but I always mention that from in front. Smoke is unpleasant and sometimes triggers an asthma attack so no to that, too.

I'm also highly sensitive to stimuli so I'm cognizant of that possibility before a cuddle. All I do is have clean sheets, clean clothes and a clean body. The most I'll put on is deodorant for myself. I can't handle air fresheners, they're overwhelming and make me nauseous. I had a cuddle with a heavy smoker once that was one of the longest hours of my life.

Being in a place that smells of smoke is disgusting to me, but there's something about the smell of someone who just smoked that is different and I enjoy that a lot.
As for perfumes/cologne hints go a long way. There's someone at my office now who must have just soaked in some mix of axe body spray and some other masculine smell good products, and I want to gag every time. Then it mixes with someone else who has a very potent gingerbread smelling candle or something. My nose is about to run from my face!
At this point, after smoke has been a saving grace just cause it has never been in my face all day like these other smells.

Oh. Just in case it has to be said "PLEASE DON'T SMOKE!" I am just very weird when it comes to smells.

Personally, I don't find that smell to be friendly or cuddly, but to each their own.

I would expect someone to warn me know if they are a heavy smoker, for the Pro, please don't have one before my sessions.

Of course the smells are important especially that close, but everyone has their own preferences, this should be talked individually for evey different cuddles partner.
If you want to have happy cuddles, there is no other way.

I have a high sensitivity to certain scents (heavy floral, rose, overwhelming sweets), so I try not to wear any when I’m cuddling. I reserve my own light perfumes for non-cuddle days.

My shampoo has very little lingering scent, my soap is all natural with a very light peppermint smell, and I use a body ointment by the same company because of my sensitive skin.

I’m very aware of what products I use for my laundry as well, so no scented dryer sheets on cuddle clothes.
