Such great insights on here. It seems that we've all realized that with our connectivity it's harder to actually be connected.
Miabear, I'm guessing like most couples in our current electronic culture, when you two are together you each are busy watching something, on devices surfing useless information, or actually reaching out to friends. Not spending time face to face and heart to heart. My last relationship we made it a point to shut off all internet connection when we were home together but we still played video games and watched tv shows or movies - he was one of those oddballs who need to actually own copies of movies, hated the space they all took up - so even wrapped up in each others bodies while doing it we wouldn't actually talk. We were together but not connecting. Physically touching but not psychologically touching. Touching souls is the only thing that eases loneliness. Even neighbors touched souls before electronic communication. If you had a problem that was bugging you it spilled out for neighbors to see even if you didn't mean it to, neighbors depended on each other because they had no other choice. We were in tune to people around us before hand held electronics; now most people have no idea who their neighbor is much less what's going on with them.
We're lonely because we in general are too busy looking down instead of horizontally. In fact there are actually studies that show men and women in general are more accepting of FWB's or casual hookups then being platonically close. It's easy to expose a body, a skin suit; it's not so easy to expose our inner most hopes and fears. Being close and platonic encourages exposure of our true self and that's uber scary.
Bossman, the video is really about connections in general, not romantic or monogamous relationships. The fact that we perpetuate our own loneliness by making assumptions. A slippery slope.
I am with the seeming minority here, I would prefer a monogamous relationship ~ but those are hard to find for the reasons above. Women, as well as men, do want a good man or woman in 2019, but it requires effort and being brave enough to put the device down and show our true selves. Face the fear of rejection, or find true love.
Or find a great new friend or two in our new town or job. What's really sad is that we have become afraid to leave our homes and meet people face to face at the local concert, mall, or running store. We don't have to smile or put any effort into clicking a button and waiting for an invisible delivery person to drop it at our door. Takes effort to look at the person grooving next to you and mention how on the band is, or moving over to stretch next to that runner you see daily but never talk to and say hi.
In my opinion we are all looking for a good one - Friend or Mate, but we've become a culture of chickens. I'm head hen of the Bismarck coop!

Loneliness is not new, although technology may be making solutions at least more complicated if not more difficult. I suspect that regardless of who you are there is a constant tug and pull between loneliness and contentment. Everyone is unique and personality types are different, so we may all handle loneliness differently and for some it may be a crisis. I think cuddling would be an excellent way to alleviate the symptoms for a time or to enhance the quality to life, but deep, unconditional friendships seem to me to be the most effective. Of course a combination of both would be amazing.
Missadventurous, I am confused and feel that I must know.. did you sigh heavily because you got mad at something or is this truly a separate event? This is why a complete list of what you did "yesterday" is so crucial.
^
I agree! Full list please.
Just dry humor le sigh ? I think loneliness and the human experience go hand in hand. It can be a positive to me because the change from being lonely to being alone with oneself is huge. You go from discontent to Joy of self. So yes, do I get lonely? Yes. Do I enjoy my own company? Absolutely. Do I feel you need human interaction to counter that? All the time you need.
i let the loneliness slip out of my veins when i self harm
