no one responds... Are they seeing my requests? I've been posting for a few days now.

This is a real site, real people, but apparently a lot of people who don't respond. I assume that you are messaging people directly which means they are also being notified directly through email that you have sent a message. It's hard to understand a no response, but appears to be common for some members.
