@DarrenWalker You are happy to criticise my use, while declining to put your own use up for public scrutiny.
To link back to the thread. I love getting to know and understand people in particular and in general, so we can get on better ; and if your response is typical, then my opinion is clearly unusual.
@DarrenWalker to point out that @geoff is off topic is like saying that @UltimateChungus likes music that some people might consider undanceable, or that @sillysassy is perky.
I dislike camping. I don't mind being outdoors but dont want to sleep nor spend a lot of time in it . I need my bed and air conditioner
@pmvines There is a significant difference between "pointing out" something, and criticising it. Your post was also off-topic, so I criticise you for hypocrisy, you could have PM'd @DarrenWalker with your opinion.
I like camping, if the tent is made of bricks and has hot running water.
@pmvines
Thank you for sharing your opinion. I'm glad that it wasn't expressed in a private message.
To avoid upsetting anyone further, I'm going to start putting my username at the top of my posts, so that people can choose to not read them.
The absurdity level is high.
I don't like the beach when it's filled with oily sweating laughing bodies. I don't like it when it's sunny. I like it dark or cloudy or rainy or blustery.
I hate sprays in the bathroom meant to mask poop smells. I prefer a nice plain poop smell to a poop smell with chemical fragrance on top.
I don't like smelly laundry detergent. I abhor scented garbage bags.
I don't like pot pourri. I don't like little signs in the home that say love, or life or other trite bits.
I don't like bars.
I don't like romance.
Here's something I love that most don't: the smell of cigar smoke. But that's a different thread.
@geoff1000 Your user name is already at the top of your posts. So maybe consider curbing them instead of going off the rails by commenting on everyone else's comments.
Spoiler for Geoff:
Seriously! Please consider double checking the OP's original thread premise and see that the content of your post relates to that. If it does then click "post". But if it doesn't then reread and make sure your comment is adding to the "flow" of the thread.
By commenting on every single comment you come across, is like a teen at a late night party, that should have been sent to bed hours ago, but instead their parent is oblivious as their kid goes from one guest to the next, inserting themselves into the conversations to show how "smart" and "grown up" they are. It quickly becomes annoying and brings down the mood.
Sure, sometimes you post something relevant, thoughtful, funny, etc. but not enough to offset the rest - it's gotten to a point of near absurdity! Since you don't have an external parent to provide oversight and guidance here, you need to do that for yourself.
Time and time again you've come back to a critique with, "I'm just trying to understand..." so prove it and instead of getting all defensive apply the suggestions being sent your way.
β~β~β~β~β~β β~ Unpopular...
I don't care what their body type is - sweaty men, out in the world, without their shirts on, are not "hot"! It's unexpected and is an ewww... π¬
So thankful for the cooler weather!!
Hahaha @quixotic_life I beg to differ on that one! We'll just have to move forward knowing we aren't actually the same person.
@quixotic_life I was being sarcastic.
No-one forces anyone to read what I post. It's more like someone complaining that they don't enjoy books by a particular author ; and keep on reading them, so they can complain.
Saying "it's like" is something I'm criticised for doing, so watch out for the "analogy police".
I don't like hypocrisy and bullying, so I call out those who do it.
@littermate Agreed on the fragrance. One has to wonder what smell they are trying to cover up. A friend referred to deodorant as "spray-on wash".
Emperor Napoleon preferred his wife "natural" and sent a message from a campaign, "Home in three days. Don't wash."
Outside of cuddling social distancing has not been challenging at all for me
@geoff1000 I try to give constructive criticism and I dont believe that I personally have bullied you . If you feel that I have I do apologize and I mean that sincerely . I may poke at you from time to time as well as others but I I have nothing personal against you and I never wish harm or hurt. I will say that some of the voices addressing you are trying to offer you feedback, though I realize unsolicited, on why one might take issue with some of your posts and the way they come across. I myself, though as I said have nothing personal at all against you , do share some of these criticisms. And truthfully what I seen in it is frustration with you , not necessarily meanness or bullying. If you are going to be part of a public group forum , you can anticipate for that to happen. I can see where it must be frustrating for you to be criticized , and I can also see the point being made by those who are saying these things to you . You can insist on the last word and spend even more time and energy coming up with an argument or defense, or you can take ir as what it is and either decide to hear what is being said or not up to you of course
@pmvines You are endorsing the criticism of me for off-topic posts, by a post, which is itself off-topic. Don't you see that behaviour is at the very least, ironic ?
My experience is that many threads have developed into topics, which are very different from the original title, and yet I am being singled out for criticism.
I don't mind how people treat me, as long as they can endure being criticised for their behaviour. I do, however, mind when others are treated badly ; and I think I have a track record of standing up for them, and often being thanked for doing so.
Is it so wrong to try to understand how the world works ? I find I enjoy it more that way.
We cannot claim to be an inclusive group, if we cherry-pick the characteristics we choose to include. Over my time on the forum, I've found myself becoming increasingly "liberal" and losing my "isms" ; not simply to sound more inclusive, but from a true change of understanding. However, that doesn't change the fact that those "isms" remain prevalent, and we would be foolish to pretend they aren't.

Dear @geoff1000
Really...?! "I don't like hypocrisy and bullying, so I call out those who do it." ...and...?! "Saying "it's like" is something I'm criticised for doing, so watch out for the "analogy police"."
Well, I don't like those who continually throw people's constructive criticism back in their faces, so I call out those who do it. Seriously, your ability to mount that high horse of yours would be impressive if it weren't for the distractingly worn attire you drape yourself in while doing so.
Crying "poor me" and accusing people of being bullies here is absurd! Clearly something is either getting lost in translation... repeatedly... with multiple people... over multiple threads, multiple days, multiple weeks, etc... or you're just being obstinate for the attention.
Additionally, saying we're hypocrites for going off the OP's theme in a response aimed at bringing you back in (questioning WTH you're talking about) and/or to stable your not yet "woke" and (frankly) offensive opinions (where you try to speak from a place of understanding when it's not your lived experience and you have zero firsthand knowledge about the issue), is equally obtuse.
By no means was I being a bully or a hypocrite. Nor am I now. I tried using a manner of communication you're familiar with to make a point I'd hoped you'd understand - Hence the analogy. Sorry you missed that (maybe consider a dismount for a better view of what's right in front of you)!
And if there were "analogy police" that stepped in here on me, I'd tell them they should do a little digging if they want the charges to stick. Because my posts on this thread hardly merits their attention and there are far better examples just a few clicks away.
Good day sir!
@pmvines ~ I'm off to go pick some cherries if you'd like to join me... π€π
@quixotic_life I'm not crying "poor me". You have no idea of my first-hand knowledge. Please don't presume.
We have had some enjoyable exchanges on here, but you are continuing the derailment of the thread, which I am criticised for doing. You clearly don't see the irony either. It is like a crowd using a megaphone in a library to tell one person to stop talking.
If you don't want to read my posts, then don't. Some people find some parts of some of them useful, and are happy to take the parts they want.
I dislike when people try to find mistakes in others rather trying to improve themselves. Hi
@geoff1000 ~ I said, "Good day sir!" πͺπ―
Lol ~ I just really wanted to be able to say that!
Ironic:
My favorite bit of irony...
... where the examples are all "situational irony".
And this follow up...
... if only we all could laugh at ourselves in this way...
Unpopular Opinion: I really enjoy the calm after the storm.
*Prioritization becomes less of a struggle when it's abundantly clear what needs to be done.
Like right now, it's clear to me that my efforts to 'help' in fact didn't. They didn't last time, or any of the times before that either.
Have I learned my lesson? Or will I feel the pull to try and reiterate someone else's position and in doing so upset the balance all over again?
Breaking one's natural inclinations can be really hard. And so can learning to not get so invested, that when misunderstood, or ignored, or ... whatever, to not respond by doubling-down.
If nothing else (if I can't just let things be), I need to learn to say my piece in the first go, and then move on.
I can see that today, I probably would have been best served to, hunker down and not step into the, what should have been, predictable chaos.
Yes, we can all see and skip, but it doesn't feel good to just ignore someone's contributions because they may have irked me at one point or another.
And yes, I shouldn't presume and I do my best to qualify when I am. In this instance however, I was going directly off your own comments made here and in other threads.
But guess what? It's time to clean up. None of It really matters ~ I'm getting over it and hope you are too.
Sincerely ~ Popular Opinion Hope you have a good day sir... π
@Sheena123 ~ Sorry for being a party crasher!
Unpopular Opinion: I don't like the game Scrabble and until they come out with a version that incorporates phonetics I'll continue to not like it...
And Twister... Sweet as a table cloth (if brand new/has never had naked feet on it) but no thanks to it's intended purpose.
I dislike: ~ Veiled passive aggression... π unless it's being done by me π»
I do like: ~ Clever Snark ~ Witty Sarcasm ~ All the inadvertent learning opportunities I create for myself almost daily ~ Encountering unfamiliar words I have to look up because the sentence doesn't have enough context clues ~ Finding out I've been using or saying a word wrong for years ~ Bell curves, spectrums and averages
@quixotic_life I'm not a scrabble fan either and I'm not bendy enough for twister
@quixotic_life aw man if you pick the right people, twister is funny as hell. All those bodies wrapped up together trying to figure out what to do and panicking!! So fun π
Unpopular opinion-
"Donald Trump is a great, polite gentleman who gets along with everybody and has no enemies."
Note: not saying this is my opinion. Just an unpopular one.
@creedhands lol I have to try real hard stifling a laugh when I meet people with such untrue opinions π€£
Hugs @geoff1000
This thread is a cut above the rest!
I think it's cruel to take something that was born to fly and clip its wings and keep it in a cage. I think "tricking it into thinking it's night time" when you want it to be quiet is also cruel. I think people who own flying birds as pets have underlying control issues.
@teapot thatβs very true. I never thought of that. π§
@teapot I completely agree and donβt get me started on fish especially the beta fish kept in tiny cups at the pet store that makes me so angry to see π‘
