TOUCH DEPRIVATION

TOUCH DEPRIVATION

Do you feel like your self conscious about your body or your image? Do you feel more lonely than usual? Maybe you feel horny but sex and masturbation is not cutting it for you? Well maybe you might be facing Touch Deprivation or Skin Starvation.

When you were a child growing up did you get a lot of kisses and hugs or were your parents not so much affectionate? Well the thing is if your not getting any touch now it can create several disorders in your life and that can leave you out of the loop with friends, families, and society as a whole. You may get stressed about something that's not worth stressing about or you may even get moody and it's not even your cycle time for you to be that moody. Well these are some of the many symptoms from touch deprivation.

I found this article online and it spoke about scientist doing an experiment where they had 2 groups of new borns. With one group they gave the newborns the basic necessities they needed to survive (food, bath, sterilize shelter) but they didn't give them physical touch or communication. In their studies they found that after 4 months half the infants died and that put a stop to their experiment. The second group of babies had the same thing but they also had physical touch and communication and all of the infants lived.

In today's world the human quota for hugs that we should get in a day is 12 and if you are not getting that then you are under the quota and could experience or develop touch deprivation. This is why cuddling services is important and is needed in today's society. Right now I recommend you taking time to getting to know you and know what your body needs or craves so that you can fulfill those needs in a healthy way. Find ways to get your hugs, find a cuddle partner, place cuddles as a high priority in your life and witness how your life can change. You are the best you and that is enough in this life.

  • This is a great thread. It can be upsetting when people realize they are touch deprived but if you’re on this website, there is plenty of fulfilling friendships to be made out there that can help you. I wish I could give the 73% of you who said you don’t get 6 hugs daily all of them 🥺

6 hugs a day? I'm lucky if I get 6 hugs a month (unless I am fortunate enough to schedule a cuddle session with an enthusiast, which I have recently. You know who you are 😉. Such a blessing)

  • There should be a "no, but only because of the pandemic" option. Hugs were a routine part of my life until then; most of my friends and even some of my coworkers are huggers.

Virtual hugs to everyone in this thread!

  • I got to choose "sometimes" because I have four legged friends who hang out with me... but that doesn't seem even remotely equivalent to curling up with a human...

Maybe if they were bigger...? Maybe instead of my 11lb. dog I should have adopted something that weighs in at a minimum of 185lbs...? Maybe I should see if I can take a cot to the zoo's primate house and cuddle with some distant relatives for a bit. That might be nice...

  • @quixotic_life A capybara, maybe!
    https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/a4i158/i_got_to_snuggle_with_a_capybara/
(Sadly I've heard they take a lot of effort to raise as pets, and may even be illegal to own in some places.)

  • @DrCuddleBug Aww that’s so sweet that you’re able to get that now. Based on your username I think you’d be a terrific hugger 🥰. @quixotic_life I say pets do count at any size! I have two cockatiels and trust me, when they want to love on you, you feel that well into your soul. My baby girl has moments where she burrows into my hair and just sleeps recently because she feels it’s getting cold outside.

  • I've seen a few capybaras in Brazil. I didn't know they'd cuddle with people.

I have a cat who follows me around a lot. She's almost always near me. She doesn't seem to like being held long but always likes being petted and usually likes to cuddle next to me.

  • I am glad to see the thread going. Thank you all for being vulnurable and sharing. I never seen a Capybara in my life so I just learned something new today @mtp

Good to know that a lot of people have pets in this chat as that's warm to know. As for those who don't I have the hugging hack for you and I will make another post on it soon. Did you know that if you hug a tree it can neutralize your energy? Not only that you are still getting that physical sensation and you feel like theres no one in the world except you and the tree that your hugging.

If you do get cuddle sessions then I say have the COVID check questions ready so that you and your partner can and will feel safe.

    Happy Cuddles

You can make your hug quota's now ;)

Just posted my new post called SOLUTIONS TO TOUCH DEPRIVATION <3

  • I was shocked to see that 76% of people voted as not getting 6 hugs a day. I don’t even know what to say. This is a small case study, I am really curious to know what the percentage would be in a bigger study. I’m sure there’s Data out there if I looked.

Do you all think these numbers would be the same in a much larger study group?

  • Totally @Morpheus. Pandemic or not, I believe these numbers would be the same or maybe slightly different. The thing is we live in a busy body generation and not everyone has or makes the time to be aware of how many hugs they get in the day muchless the week. The crazy part is the human quota is 12 hugs a day and we are not even getting 6 which is unbelievable. If you do end up doing a study please keep me posted as I would like to learn more about this too.

  • I just moved to a place where I am by myself and am high risk for covid. I currently don't have a job. I'm lucky if I see another person most days. I'm completely alone.

I have one friend that I see maybe once a week. Due to trauma she doesn't like being touched at all. When I visit her and if I go to the store are the only times I see people.

I'm hoping I can find an enthusiast on this site that meets my covid safety standards soon.

I might try to find a park and try hugging trees tomorrow.

  • I'm trying to remember the last time i had a hug... I think it was my birthday... Last year (May)

Being an 'essential worker' i try to be extra vigilant with hygiene, social distancing, etc which has dramatically reduced my opportunities for hugs but even before the pandemic i was lucky to get one a month mostly due to social expectations and friends who aren't at all tactile.

  • I might get a few a day on weekends at the haunt I work, but even after this weekend that's being cut back to just Friday and Saturday, and then the weekend before X-Mas is the last weekend I'm working that. Days I don't work, well, I hug cats, but they don't hug back, so I'm not getting hugs.

  • Wow that’s crazy how much of us are touch deprived .
Growing up I didn’t like hugs AT ALL.
But now as an adult and not seeing family or close friends as much since I’m in another state/city . I cherish them when I get the chance .
*cyber hug to you all * 💞

  • I really haven't had any hugs in about 10 years. According to the OP, I'm supposed to get 12 per day, so I figure I've missed around 10x365x12 hugs. That's 43,800 hugs missed and I haven't even included leap years.

  • @UKGuy - Get a dog.

@Lyssababy92 I felt similar about hugs in my childhood. They meant nothing to me. But in my early adulthood, once I got hugs from friends with whom I felt I had a higher quality of communication, I felt more loved when they were hugging me than when my TOXIC blood relatives did.

Nowadays I do feel loved when my parents hug me unlike I did growing up. Due to COVID I went 112 days with no affection whatsoever and then decided, “F*** this!” I took a week off work, hopped a couple of planes to the area of my roots, arrived at the end of the walkway at CVG airport, and there stood my mother. We didn’t hug right there inside the terminal; we waited until we were inside my parents house where nobody was there to criticize us.

Throughout the pandemic, U.S. state governments have made such a huge issue about who lives with whom. This makes me wanna get myself into a cohabitating romance ASAP after the pandemic so that next time a new coronavirus is discovered I won’t be touch deprived and have to take a five hour flight just to get a hug. After all, my mom is near-elderly and has had bad knees since her early twenties. There will inevitably come a day when she’s still alive and lucid but physically unable to hug. I can never afford to experience worse than I did this time.

  • Ah, I've been touch-starved all my life...it's reached the point where I'm touch-averse, actually :'(
I may not like touch, but I'm trying to learn to. That's why I'm so happy this website exists

  • @APV
That’s great you got to see her .
I hate that I’m half a country away from mine .
Or maybe invest in a pet .

Since I live alone I only get human hugs three times per year or less. I hug oak trees when I feel like driving up to two hours to my favorite park to find one. That's a spa day for me.

Otherwise I remain hug less for many months out of any given year. And I honestly don't feel touch deprived. Because my need for touch is not physical. It's emotional and spiritual. Perhaps even mental. But never physical.

So when I take a spa day to go hug my favorite oak tree I have to talk to it. I have very long conversations with it while I hold it. Conversations about my inner being and my personal life that I would sometimes share with humans I can trust. The physical act of hugging that tree is just an entryway to the calls of my inner being. Not a fulfilling end in itself.

So yes touch deprivation exists in different ways for different people.

It definitely is different with covid. I work with all men, it’s like a locker room at work sometimes, no hugs but a lot of hand shakes, hi fives, fist bumps, etc. Once covid started, all that touching at work went away. I’m still well over 6 hugs a day but even then, I have felt the affect of overall reduced physical contact.

I feel you for those who have been Touch Deprived. I too have been Touch Deprived almost all my life and still don't get much these days and with Covid times its even worst. What I can say is trees do help when it comes to manifesting the energy needed to fulfill your hugs in a day. They also neutralize your energy. So if you feel like shit, if you hug a tree long enough it will ground your energy to neutral <3

In a forest, I feel like the trees keep me company. Lost in the woods, I never felt lonely, even when I was completely alone. But I wish the trees could speak to me. I guess that’s why I’ve never hugged them. Because they’ve never said “Hello”.

  • I anticipate people will say "it's different for women" but can't you just ask a friend to cuddle? I can tell you, the rona sucks but isn't the small risk worth it? No one has said no yet....

  • [Deleted User]Mmart (deleted user)

My doctor gets me tested monthly for Covid. Good to go.

  • This is why I am a huge advocate for platonic affection like cuddling! Human beings get touch starved and dont even know why they're upset or just miserable! This site is so great for that and I wish more people knew about it

  • Won't lie I've taken to hugging the machines I work on while I'm correcting whatevers grinding their gears at the time. Well except nora she has made it quite clear that hugs are out of bounds
