Is anyone interested in being pen pals? I mean in general and not with me specifically. I have a few friends I keep in touch with with handwritten letters. It's fun and easy to get creative with different stamps, paper, and envelopes. πβ
I kinda miss that back in the day. I have digital message pen pals now. Haha
Yep some one needs an email or dm pal I'm yer ape, but my hand writing makes doctors go what the hell man?! Lmao
I remember using the instant messenger program ICQ from the mid 90s to early 2000s or so. ICQ has changed over the years, but it used to have a section where you could fill out a profile for yourself and find a random chat partner, who could be anywhere around the world. There were people I talked to from around the world on ICQ, and I miss those who I've lost contact with. I'm still in contact with just 2 of them, outside of ICQ.
@FlyingToaster Oh my gosh, yesss. I used AOL to talk with people all over the world. It was so cool!
I feel as if these online platforms / forums serve as a medium for pen-pals since for the most part we donβt necessarily know each other yet we write βοΈ to each other/ open up / & share on a daily π
On line communication is just fine. That way the NSA knows I am not a subversive...yet.
I would love to do the old school pen pal thing. I really enjoy that there isn't any pressure of instant gratification with it. I despise the world in which you can see when I was last online or if I posted or something. Then I feel expectations on others and they're felt on me. With the mail system it's already nice and slow and waiting is part of the game.
@Sashamcgee I would pen pal with you
Before the internet, I used to have pen-pals all over the world. Some I corresponded with for years. People are not so much into it today since mail takes so long and postage rates have risen dramatically. But there is nothing quite like reading a hand-written letter.
i never did pen-pals by mail - just online chats / msgs n now-a-days can do pics n vids and see real look of person online.
I miss having pen pals. While I enjoy communicating with people online, there is nothing better than receiving a letter in the mail! @Sashamcgee and @Mmart...I would gladly be pen pals with the two of you. @BluShadeCool...you too!
I had a pen pal waaaaay back in the day in China as part of a school thing but aside from that not really. A TON of BBS buddies and a fellow veteran of icq, aim, and yim chats as well as an mplayer voice chat OG lmao
I would love to do this so much
I dreaded writing letters cus my penmanship is horrible but I did used to enjoy receiving them
@verona I am interested in doing this also. I had a pen pal many years ago from Germany, I actually learned some German in the process,
When I traveled I used to purchase 5 blank postcards and/or notecards and mail them off by the last day of each trip. It was a nice way to stay in touch with friends and fam, near and far, and it was also a nice meditative process to write while on the airplane, waiting for shuttles, or maybe at happy hour at the hotel bar. I'll start it up again in the post-Covid world next year.
Anyone who tags me will get a message about being pen pals! I don't want to bombard everyone who said they were interested though π or just send me a message!
