I don't have a history of sensory hallucinations. I'm not prone to imagining things that aren't there. Nor am I suggestive enough to start just because of a conversation I've had online. I don't use drugs (and never have). I'm not terribly imaginative in general. Scientifically, there would be no explanation for me to suddenly hear the voice of God.

If god is real, he certainly has the power to speak even to unbelievers. I would have no more likely explanation for it than "god is real." Convert me. It's not God's will that any should be lost, right? Convert this preacher's child!

@DarrenWalker You don't need me to do this for you. You can start searching sincerely for God, and ask Him to reveal himself to you. And He already has in so many ways, but you can't see it. Yet. When you find a painting or a cellphone do you assume natural actions shaped them? I'm gonna assume you don't. You recognise design because paint and canvas don't naturally come together to form beautiful paintings, and ditto for the parts that make up the cellphone. You know there must have been a painter and a cellphone manufacturer, even though you didn't see them or the painting / manufacturing process. Now go learn about the machinery in living cells and about the complex codeS (multiple!) in the DNA, and see evidence of intelligent design all over them, pointing to the existence of a Designer. You gotta be sincere in your search for God though. If your "search" is just a mockery, He will see right through that and leave you to it. But He does help the sincere.

And for over two decades I believed with the unquestioning faith of a child... and God never spoke to me. "Speak, Lord, your servant is listening!" Why would I rely on the words of man when I had the Word of God? Why would I not believe that God was the sort to speak to people, to make bushes burn without being consumed, to make dew behave many, many different ways around sheep's wool, to put a flood of water inside a stone or strike fire to a sodden pyre on demand?
So. I'm still not hearing anything from God. To quote Elijah: "Pray louder! If [your god] really is a god, maybe he is thinking, or busy, or traveling! Maybe he is sleeping so you will have to wake him!"

If some dude walked up to me and told me that the government was transmitting messages directly to his brain, and that these messages compelled him to assassinate the PM of New Zealand because of some Hobbit-based conspiracy, I'd put as much thought and effort into what he told me as I've put into what you've told me. So, none at all.
Even if the would-be assassin had a book that went into detail on New Zealand's Hobbit conspiracy. I know, stuff published in books—and articles—aimed at a specific demographic (instead of being peer-reviewed and debated within a community of experts prior to being verified as worthwhile to the world at large) are very compelling stuff, but I can do without considering vapid bullshit.

@DarrenWalker I feel you man. I go through dry spells too. Been in one for several months now. But I hang on to God's past acts in my life. My personal testimony gets me through the dry spells. But also, studying creationist materials to learn about the evidence that affirms the biblical accounts of creation, the flood, Babel, etc, helps to reinforce for you that the bible is accurate about the things we can check, so we can also be confident about the spiritual stuff that we can't check. I really encourage you to read creation.com and the books I mentioned in this thread especially "Without excuse" by professor Werner Gitt which is a very clear and logical proof for the existence of God, and not just his existence but also his character attributes. That book is a really good one to read.
@Comfy_Arms: God hasn't acted in my life at all. Based on the description we have of him in his word, I'd really expected a whole lot more. Then again, maybe you're right and I shouldn't rely on the Bible for information.

True, but that doesn't mean God always answers every request for confirmation. Faith is important to him too. Will you believe what he put in the scriptures? Or will you turn to fallible men and their ever changing theories? I believe the Word of God is complete and reliable. God is capable of preserving his word throughout the ages. And, if our faith is weak, we can strengthen it with the things that real science has discovered which agrees with the biblical account. (real science is observable and repeatable and brings us things like calculators and glue and spectrometers. Historical science or forensic science is not properly called science but involves past processes that cannot be observed or repeated, and the evidence they leave behind must be interpreted and any faulty assumptions we make when interpreting will lead to wrong conclusions.)
