Personality traits question

edited December 2020 in General

Some people have a more dominant or submissive personality at work and in public. If you’re a dom in public do you melt and become a little spoon? Or are you a sub in public and become a dom/ big spoon when you’re cuddling?

I'm not quite sure how to answer this question. I'm very assertive in areas where I'm confident: areas of expertise, things I've studied or dealt with long enough to become proficient, etc.

At work, for instance, I have no trouble whatsoever in confronting management over questionable decisions, say, or directing customers as to how they should use the pin pad (especially when they're in their altitudes and clearly need direction)—but when it comes to working the lottery machine or printing money orders I prefer to let someone else take the lead. So am I more dominant or submissive at work? I really couldn't say. Has less to do with location than with knowledge.

Same with cuddling: where I'm familiar with my buddy and the situation, I'm definitely in charge. Where I'm unfamiliar, I take a step back and see what they want to do.

As far as spooning goes, there are benefits to each position. I like both.

  • I’ve never thought of which utensil position am alpha or omega personality would slip into . More which is likely to assume according to size . And yes there is the “ switch “ ..not reversing personalities but adjustments to comfort

  • Depends on who I'm with, I'll happily play the submissive cuddle puppy for those who enjoy it, or the protective cave monkey for those that like to be held and feel "safe"
The truth is I'm somewhere in the middle, got that whole guard dog thing bred deep in my psyche. shrugs I am what I am.

  • When I hear dom and sub it makes me think of other things

Exactly! Haha That phraseology doesn’t seem applicable to a strictly platonic meeting site.

  • While I suppose lead or follow my have been less charged words. The point seemed clear enough to me at least.

I agree that the dom/sub terminology sounds strange in any context outside of BDSM sex. "If you’re a dom in public" sounds very weird to me.

That said, generally I take the lead while cuddling, and I always assumed that would be the preference of most men. However, one or two (female) pros here have said that most of their clients prefer to let them (the pro) lead, which surprised me.

  • I was not a fan of the phraseology, either. I'm allowing the thread and topic, but if this is any way suggest non-platonic activities, I will delete. [-Sid]

  • Well many men enjoy the chance to stop being the shielding rock and bask in the comfort offered by letting someone else be in charge for awhile now and then.

I don’t think the phraseology sounds strange at all. I totally understand what you’re asking. Usually I’m a dominant force in my personal life and the way I handle and control everything around it. But when it comes to intimacy EVEN platonic I do prefer to take a much more passive nurturing role, and I really enjoy the vulnerability of letting down my guard and feeling safe and comfort in alpha energy

  • I guess both? It really depends on who I'm with and how our energies mesh.
