'New members'

So, I just signed out of the site to try to reset my profile picture (for some reason it is still showing my old profile picture even though I have deleted the photo AND added a new picture in its place) and on the sign up page it shows a selection of 'New Members'....... Who are not the same as the actual new members you see when you are logged in and on the site.

Why does CC use what looks to be fake, catfish photos of riduclously attractive people to entice individuals to join the site? Surely that sends out the wrong message, and may go some way to explaining why certain people that join have less than salubrious intentions.

  • There are actually attractive people on this site. The site gets photos worldwide.

  • My guess would be that these are stock photos that CC can legally purchase rights to use, rather than having to navigate the difficulty of using pics from actual members who may be hesitant to give up legal control of their image.

    As far as changing your pic, I had the same issues where I couldn’t really figure it out, than I discovered what works for me which is I won’t remove the public 1, I will put it on private & than on the public I will upload the new one... it still takes a bit of time so that it can change , the goal (or my goal) is to see that Atleast I can see it on my profile, if I do it is only a matter of hours till it’ll show elsewhere like In comments or replies ect ... (it’ll actually change) I’m very sure there’s a much simpler process but this is what works for me, I just did all the above just now just to see how long it’ll take (hope this helps : )

    There's no one on my new members who I'd deem as ridiculously attractive. Approachable perhaps. But nothing out of the ordinary for what I see when I browse the site.
    There's no pics that scream "yes this site is for soliciting chicks for sex"

    @Envie they're just ridiculously attractive compared to me then 🤣

    @BellaSera thank you, that makes sense.

  • For the sake of science I looked at the new cuddlers once logged in. I don't know if it's the same for everyone but on mine
    Two have snapchat filters. Neat, you're a dog.
    Two men who are shirtless.
    Three are either extremely blurry or poorly lit.
    The rest are nice clear photos of average people.

    I'm sure if they were to update the sign up page with some of the photos new members use, it would send out a wrong message. Anyone who uploads a shirtless pic is sending out the wrong message.

    Just a thought.

    I politely disagree. The collection of photographs that you posted are predominantly female and it seems everybody is in their 20s. I would venture to say that the average member of this website is closer to the age of 40 and male. Maybe even older. Just that alone shows for a huge disparity in the actual members versus what they are presenting to us.

  • @Importance I am 25, I've met someone younger than me. Also, most of the pro-cuddlers near me are in their 20s or early 30s.

  • @Importance

    Of course they want to present the site in an attractive manner. I thought she meant these people were unobtainable specimens of beauty. No, they look like average people, yes some are more attractive than others. There is alot of attractive people here, male and female. All age ranges.

    The photos picked are probably done so in a manner that makes the site look aesthetically pleasing.

    I don't know about you but I'd be hesitant to sign up to a cuddle site with a bunch of shirtless men, cleavage and booty pics as the intro.

    @Envie sadly that is more representative of the site.....

  • Stock images, ah, everyone business uses them. Btw- ever see a Big mac in person look like the TV adds? js

  • Well when it comes to tv food the old saying is, if it looks hot its probably cold and if it looks cold its probably crisco lmao (icecream melts under the lights)

  • @Importance female enthusuast in my area (200miles)

    18-29 ->22 members
    29-39 -> 13 members
    40+ ->7 members

    Not everywhere skews older.

    This is a screenshot taken a few moments ago of the homepage, from my logged in account.

    I think there are two possibilities. Either these are real photos of real people with real accounts. Or the person in charge of putting up pretty profiles to entice new people to join wants shooting. (No offence to our newest members!)

    I'm not breaching anybody's privacy, this was the site homepage a few minutes ago.

    I presume they are all female because I'm a man who cuddles women.

  • @BotWithFeelings Let’s talk about the men in your area

  • If I had a program to do that sure. Unfortunately I would have to count 7 times as many people. My area is Birmingham though

  • You just made my point for me

    When I logged out at looked at the homepage, the lastest cuddler pictures were the same as @Envie posted above. I refreshed and got the same set of images several times.

    The second picture, of the girl leaning against the car, is a user called Cm3. Her profile appears to be a normal, genuine profile. She has never posted on the forum and has no karma or friends. She joined in July 17 and last logged in two years ago.

    A reverse image search produces only one result, Cuddle Comfort.

    That all makes me feel like somebody at some point in the past trawled through some new member profiles, found some relatively attractive ones, and posted them on the new members list. And then hasn't done that chore since. Which is exactly what most small websites like this one do.

    Is your point you have 7 times and many people to choose from? @Importance

    For 100 miles, male enthusiasts
    18-> 29 : 9
    30->39: 9
    40+ :15

    So, yes the men are older but <40 outnumbers >40

    So why do we see predominantly younger females in the new member section?

    I know that you are smart enough to figure this out.

  • I don't know what your new section looks like

  • It looks like attractive people in their 20s

  • I don’t really wanna argue over this. I think Buggle Bear made an excellent point. I also think many other people here made excellent points about why a website would do this, or why McDonald’s would do this or why any business would do this. I was just agreeing with her. That’s all. Peace out

  • Because the site markets to those most likely to pay professionals and therefore the site, would be my best guess.

  • Can I ask why this is a thing people feel the need to question or investigate?

  • I mean I don't get men in my feed at all. And most of the the new members I see are average.

  • @BuggleBear I suppose if you will be asking @Mark that question, you could also inquire as to why all of these young adult individuals who are likely in their twenties, are also all caucasian? There are a ton of members of color on this site, and that is also not well-represented on the main page...

  • OK people there are two different things being discussed here and they are getting confused.

    1) The new members you see when you look at the site's homepage, while you are logged in.

    This appears to be a genuine list of new members, tailored to your account in some way. For example, I only see women in that list.

    2) Quite separately, when you log out of your account and look at the site, if you scroll down you will see a montage of 'new members'. This appears to be a static set of photos, the same for everybody. We have some evidence that these were once real new members, but yes it is slightly problematic list for a variety of reasons. However, we must remember that new signup rate is not one of the problems this site faces in general, so that page is doing its job. The site will be reluctant to monkey with it.

    @hugonehugall because it's important.
