Come on You don't need to change A thing about you, babe I'm telling you from where I sit You're one of a kind Relationships I don't know why They never work out and they make you cry But the guy that says goodbye to you Is out of his mind
Well, I've been down and I need your help I've been feelin' sorry for myself Don't hesitate to boost my confidence Well, I've been lost and I need direction I could use a little love protection What do you say, honey? Come to my defense I stand up for you if it's what you need And I can take a punch, I don't mind to bleed As long as afterwards you feel bad for me And you give me all of your attention I've got deep desire and it needs quenching I think that's pretty plain for you to see Well, enough about me and more about you Because that'd be the gentlemanly thing to do I hope you like your men sweet and polite I thought I was done with telling you But I ain't nearly halfway through I've got a few more things I'd like to say to you tonight
Get ready
You don't need to change A thing about you, babe I'm telling you from where I sit You're one of a kind Relationships I don't know why They never work out and they make you cry But the guy that says goodbye to you Is out of his mind, mind
You always did kinda drive me crazy And it pissed me off 'cause I let it phase me But I never wanted my time with you to end Now I'm back in town for a day or two Well, mostly I came back just to see you I'm leavin' now but I don't want to go
You don't need to change A thing about you, babe I'm telling you from where I sit You're one of a kind Relationships I don't know why They never work out, they make you cry But the guy that says goodbye to you Is out of his mind
~ Griffin House
I can taste it in my mouth I am hanging upside down All the faces gathered round To wait and see, to breath relief To call my name for the first time
Cry your eyes out Fill your lungs up We all hurt We all lie And nothing stays the same
Oh, oh, oh dear life Oh, oh, oh
I can face it just about I'd rather hurt than live without But I will rage and scream and shout A love, a life, it's dark and bright It's beautiful and it's alright
To cry your eyes out Fill your lungs up We all hurt We all lie And nothing stays the same
Let your guard down Get your heart pounded We all bleed We all breathe And nothing stays the same
We hold out For someday And nothing stays the same
Oh, oh, oh
We all believe in something that'll rip us into shreds We all know why it stings to open up your chest We all show signs of greatness that we hope that someone sees Our broken teeth are scattered but we're smiling underneath A thousand bruising muscles still we're running on and on We all know names that ring like thunder rattling our walls Everyone is yearning for a reason for a cause Somewhere deep inside we're hold on for dear life
Oh, oh, oh dear life Oh, oh, oh dear life Oh, oh, oh dear life Oh, oh, oh
(Yeah) we all hurt We all learned That nothing stays the same
~ Luke Sital-Singh
When your day is long And the night The night is yours alone When you're sure you've had enough Of this life Well hang on Don't let yourself go 'Cause everybody cries And everybody hurts sometimes Sometimes everything is wrong Now it's time to sing along When your day is night alone (hold on) (Hold on) if you feel like letting go (hold on) If you think you've had too much Of this life Well, hang on 'Cause everybody hurts Take comfort in your friends Everybody hurts Don't throw your hand Oh, no Don't throw your hand If you feel like you're alone No, no, no, you're not alone If you're on your own In this life The days and nights are long When you think you've had too much Of this life To hang on Well, everybody hurts sometimes Everybody cries And everybody hurts sometimes And everybody hurts sometimes So, hold on, hold on Hold on, hold on Hold on, hold on Hold on, hold on Everybody hurts You are not alone

I just posted this somewhere else the other day...
You put the clocks forward You put the clocks back The mirror is never fooled...
When the time comes On the last day When they start to count down Will you just Will you run away? Will you run away?
Oh, come out, come out To the sea, my love And just drown with me Just drown with me
If you leave when I go Find me in the shallows If you leave when I go Please try and find me In the shallows
Lying on my back I will be Watching starts collide I will be Watching Watching
Oh the sisters of mercy They are not departed or gone They were waiting for me When I thought that I just can't go on And they brought me their comfort And later they brought me this song Oh I hope you run into them You who've been travelling so long
Yes you who must leave everything That you cannot control It begins with your family But soon it comes round to your soul Well, I've been where you're hanging I think I can see how you're pinned When you're not feeling holy Your loneliness says that you've sinned
They lay down beside me I made my confession to them They touched both my eyes And I touched the dew on their hem If your life is a leaf That the seasons tear off and condemn They will bind you with love That is graceful and green as a stem
When I left they were sleeping I hope you run into them soon Don't turn on the lights You can read their address by the moon And you won't make me jealous If I hear that they sweetened your night We weren't lovers like that And besides it would still be all right
We weren't lovers like that And besides it would still be all right
-Leonard Cohen
Lying in my bed I think of you That song goes through my head the one we both knew In each line lies another line full of sacred sound But you're outside where the companies dream and the money goes round Lying in my bed. Watching my mistakes I listen to the band they said that it could be the 2 of us
The snow might fall and write the lines on the silent page But you're outside making permanent love to the nuclear age Two silhouettes by the cash machine make a lovers dance It's a tango for the lonely wives of the business class Lying in my bed Watching my mistakes I listen to the band Lying in my bed With nothing much to say so I listen to the man He said that it could be the 2 of us
I heard you call from across the city through the stereo sound And so I crawled there sickeningly pretty as the money went round Lying in my head watching my mistakes
I listen to the band And the drums beat in my head Pianos chime the sound in this prison of the house And as the illness comes again can you hear me through the rain As I listen to the band? As I sing the silent song Mime each lonely word Please listen to the man he said that it could be the 2 of us
Alone but not lonely, you and me Alone but loaded
The London Suede
Wow ~ @RubyRose ~ Those words just got me perfect. I don't think I've ever heard the song, so I'm going to go find and listen to it, but just as words alone ~ how beautiful. ♡
addition ~ I've been listening to Leonard Cohen for the last two hours... I want to snuggle with his voice...
@quixotic_life - Oh I'm so glad you have been enjoying Leonard Cohen! He's very special to me. Gems.

I Know It’s Over Song by The Smiths
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head And as I climb into an empty bed Oh well. Enough said. I know it's over - still I cling I don't know where else I can go Oh... Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head See, the sea wants to take me The knife wants to slit me Do you think you can help me? Sad veiled bride, please be happy Handsome groom, give her room Loud, loutish lover, treat her kindly (Though she needs you More than she loves you) And I know it's over - still I cling I don't know where else I can go Over and over and over and over Over and over, la... I know it's over And it never really began But in my heart it was so real And you even spoke to me, and said : "If you're so funny Then why are you on your own tonight ? And if you're so clever Then why are you on your own tonight ? If you're so very entertaining Then why are you on your own tonight ? If you're so very good-looking Why do you sleep alone tonight ? I know... 'Cause tonight is just like any other night That's why you're on your own tonight With your triumphs and your charms While they're in each other's arms..." It's so easy to laugh It's so easy to hate It takes strength to be gentle and kind Over, over, over, over It's so easy to laugh It's so easy to hate It takes guts to be gentle and kind Over, over Love is natural and real But not for you, my love Not tonight, my love Love is natural and real But not for such as you and I, my love Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my ... Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head Oh Mother, I can even feel the soil falling over my head Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my...
Watch you as you eat your own Half truths mixed with lies Defending what you think you know Changing stories all the time Talking til your face is blue Tripping on your words Righteous in your knowledge But you haven't got a clue Laughing as the web you weave Tangles til you choke We are here and still the same It's you that has become the joke
From "Feed Our Fame", by KMFDM.
I fell by the wayside like everyone else I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, but I was just kidding myself Our every moment, I start to replace 'Cause now that they're gone, all I hear are the words that I needed to say
When you hurt under the surface Like troubled water running cold Well, time can heal, but this won't
So, before you go Was there something I could've said to make your heart beat better? If only I'd have known you had a storm to weather So, before you go Was there something I could've said to make it all stop hurting? It kills me how your mind can make you feel so worthless So, before you go
Was never the right time, whenever you called Went little by little by little until there was nothing at all Our every moment, I start to replay But all I can think about is seeing that look on your face
When you hurt under the surface Like troubled water running cold Well, some can heal, but this won't
Would we be better off by now If I'd have let my walls come down? Maybe, I guess we'll never know You know, you know
Before you go Was there something I could've said to make your heart beat better? If only I'd have known you had a storm to weather So, before you go Was there something I could've said to make it all stop hurting? It kills me how your mind can make you feel so worthless So, before you go
~ Lewis Capaldi
"Washing Of The Water" by Peter Gabriel
River, river, carry me on Living river, carry me on River, river, carry me on To the place where I come from
So deep, so wide. Will you take me on your back for a ride? If I should fall, would you swallow me deep inside?
River, show me how to float I feel like I'm sinking down Thought that I could get along But here in this water My feet won't touch the ground I need something to turn myself around
Going away, away towards the sea River deep, can you lift up and carry me? Oh, roll on though the heartland 'Til the sun has left the sky River, river, carry me high 'Til the washing of the water make it all alright Let your waters reach me like she reached me tonight
Letting go, it's so hard The way it's hurting now To get this love untied So tough to stay with thing 'Cause if I follow through I face what I denied I get those hooks out of me And I take out the hooks that I sunk deep in your side Kill that fear of emptiness, loneliness I hide
River, oh river, river running deep Bring me something that will let me get to sleep In the washing of the water will you take it all away Bring me something to take this pain away
I'm upper, upper class high society God's gift to ballroom notoriety And I always fill my ballroom The event is never small All the social papers say I've got the biggest balls of all
I've got big balls I've got big balls And they're such big balls Dirty big balls And he's got big balls, And she's got big balls, But we've got the biggest balls of them all!
And my balls are always bouncing My ballroom always full And everybody comes and comes again If your name is on the guest list No one can take you higher Everybody says I've got great balls of fire!
Some balls are held for charity And some for fancy dress But when they're held for pleasure, They're the balls that I like best. And my balls are always bouncing, To the left and to the right. It's my belief that my big balls should be held every night.
And I'm just itching to tell you about them Oh, we have such wonderful fun Seafood cocktail Crabs Crayfish
I don't wanna die or fade away I just wanna be someone I just wanna be someone
Dive and disappear without a trace I just wanna be someone Well, doesn't everyone? And if you feel the great dividing I wanna be the one you're guiding 'Cause I believe that you could lead the way
I just wanna be somebody to someone, oh I wanna be somebody to someone, oh I never had nobody and no road home I wanna be somebody to someone
And if the sun's upset and the sky goes cold Then if the clouds get heavy and start to fall I really need somebody to call my own I wanna be somebody to someone Someone to you Someone to you Someone to you Someone to you
I don't even need to change the world I'll make the moon shine just for your view I'll make the starlight circle the room And if you feel like night is falling I wanna be the one you're calling 'Cause I believe that you could lead the way
The kingdom come, the rise, the fall The setting sun above it all I just wanna be somebody to you
And if the sun's upset and the sky goes cold Then if the clouds get heavy and start to fall I really need somebody to call my own I wanna be somebody to someone Someone to you Someone to you Someone to you Someone to you Someone to you

Beholding the might In its dawn of grace In its beauty and light In its pride and glory Rushing torrent - time and space Elder lords - crack the soil Gone or dead - you've never been Kingdom come - hear the roar Climbing down to rule the earth Bloodshot eyes - metal skin Serpents tongue - dagger claws Dragon wings - crooked horns KING
From "K.I.N.G." by Satyricon.
I'll be back I'll be back That's what you said When you left me
I wish I could stay I wish I could stay But I need some space And you're in the way
Can you see me? I'm dancing on my own Can you hear me? I'm crying out for help Is it ignorance? Or selfishness? You said stay here But I'm running out of air I hope you know As I wait, I suffocate
I hope you know I hope you know The air gets cold When you don't hold me
The sky turns grey The sky turns grey The flowers fade And blow away
Should I chase you down? Or should I keep waiting? Should I move on? Or should I keep waiting?
Can you see me? (Or should I keep waiting?) I'm dancing on my own (Should I move on?) Can you hear me? (Or should I keep waiting?) I'm crying out for help (Should I chase you down?) Is it ignorance? Or selfishness? (Or should I keep waiting?) You said stay here But I'm running out of air (should I move on?)
I hope you know As I wait I suffocate

~ Iron & Wine - Call It Dreaming ~
Say it's here where our pieces fall in place Any rain softly kisses us on the face Anywhere means we're running We can sleep and see 'em coming Where we drift and call it dreaming We can weep and call it singing
Where we pray when our hearts are strong enough We can bow, 'cause our music's warmer than blood Where we see enough to follow We can hear when we are hollow Where we keep the light we're given We can lose and call it living
Where the sun isn't only sinking fast Every night knows how long it's supposed to last Where the time of our lives is all we have And we get a chance to say Before we ease away For all the love you've left behind You can have mine...
Say it's here where our pieces fall in place We can fear, 'cause the feeling's fine to betray Where our water isn't hidden We can burn and be forgiven Where our hands hurt from healing We can laugh without a reason
'Cause the sun isn't only sinking fast Every moon in our bodies make shining glass Where the time of our lives is all we have And we get a chance to say Before we ease away For all the love you've left behind You can have mine...
~ Lake Street Drive - Better Than ~
I could spend ages reading the news I could spend days, singing the blues But I turn up the tv light Give up without a fight Better than pretending to know what's wrong and what's right
I could spend ages asking myself why There's a million ways that I could say goodbye But I turn down the lights Come on baby come inside Better then being some fool's bride Better than pretending to know what's wrong and what's right
Turn down the lights Come on baby, come inside Better than pretending to know what's wrong and what's right Better than being some fool's bride
Well it's better than pretending to know what's wrong and what's right Oh what's wrong, and what's right
Distant Sun, by Crowded House
Tell me all the things you would change I don't pretend to know what you want When you come around and spin my top Time and again, time and again
No fire where I lit my spark I am not afraid of the dark Where your words devour my heart And put me to shame, put me to shame
When your seven worlds collide Whenever I'm by your side And dust from a distant sun Will shower over everyone
Still so young to travel so far Old enough to know who you are Wise enough to carry the scars Without any blame, there's no one to blame
It's easy to forget what you learned Waiting for the thrill to return Feeling your desire burn And drawn to the flame
When your seven worlds collide Whenever I'm by your side Dust from a distant sun Will shower over everyone Dust from a distant sun Will shower over everyone And I'm lying on the table Washed out in a flood Like a Christian feeling vengeance from above I don't pretend to know what you want But I offer love
Seven worlds will collide Whenever I'm by your side Dust from a distant sun Will shower over everyone As time slips by As time slips by
@pmvines ~ IMO Civil War should be required listening in every high school's History/Social Studies class! I still remember being given the lyrics for, and listening to, 'We didn't start the fire' ~ I don't know if instructors are still doing that kind of thing, but if so, I'd hope they're useing this song instead. I think it would/could make for a far more impactful discussion/unit focus!!
And, thanks for posting it! I hadn't heard it before.
@quixotic_life too much cursing for them to give to kids probably lol but I can see it as being useful
@quixotic_life I had a US history teacher in high school who played "We Didn't Start The Fire". I was already familiar with the song, as I had heard it on the radio many times, but that was the first time I had heard the lyrics analyzed in-depth.
,
So I've never been a "Swiftie", never hated on her or anyone who liked her music but never got into it myself. Then she goes and drops 2 albums in 2020 and I decide to pick them up since they seem like they have a very different vibe, and she goes and hits me with this song, which for me isn't so much applicable to feelings about any past relationship but more just my "relationship with life", if that makes any sense haha.
"this is me trying" by Taylor Swift
I've been having a hard time adjusting I had the shiniest wheels, now they're rusting I didn't know if you'd care if I came back I have a lot of regrets about that Pulled the car off the road to the lookout Could've followed my fears all the way down And maybe I don't quite know what to say But I'm here in your doorway
I just wanted you to know That this is me trying I just wanted you to know That this is me trying
They told me all of my cages were mental So I got wasted like all my potential And my words shoot to kill when I'm mad I have a lot of regrets about that I was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere Fell behind all my classmates and I ended up here Pourin' out my heart to a stranger But I didn't pour the whiskey I just wanted you to know
That this is me trying I just wanted you to know That this is me trying At least I'm trying
And it's hard to be at a party When I feel like an open wound It's hard to be anywhere these days When all I want is you You're a flashback in a film reel On the one screen in my town
And I just wanted you to know That this is me trying (maybe I don't quite know what to say) I just wanted you to know That this is me trying
At least I'm trying
