So how many of you have removed or stripped paint before? If you have what tools did you use and how long did it take you all to do the job? Also have you ever taking on the task of removing textured paint? If you have what was the process like to remove it?

    Interior or exterior? What is the substrate? I'm assuming removing paint from wood. (Textured or not- doesn't matter. It is a problem if the substrate is textured.) There are two good methods
    1. A chemical peel like "Peel-Away 1". It is a paste you apply like drywall mud to the surface, cover for a few (12-15?) hours with a type of wax paper, and then scrape and wash off. This may require repeating the process depending on the thickness of the paint.
    2. Using a heat gun and scraper.
    With either process, you will probably have to sand the final small residues off. Depending on what paint was used originally, you may or may not be able to use a standard stain to the original surface as it may be too well sealed to absorb standard stains. A gel stain will work if that is the case, but you will need to varnish to protect it from wearing off too quickly.

    Exterior I would go with the heat gun. Interior I would go with the chemical strip

    Interesting topic that I never expected to find here. Is it a time consuming process using a heat gun to remove exterior paint from wood siding? Would it be a fire hazard? I've only ever used a pressure washer and then scraped it off. Would a heat gun yield better results?

    We’ve rebuilt structures burned to the ground with the cause ., a painter removing paint up high near the roof line along the rakes and eaves . The heat gun is like a hair dryer it has a little fan , and can blow a little glowing ember up through a rotten part of wood where a bird has nested . The dry twigs of the birds nest go up
    In flames . The worst is a historic structure with many coats of paint the timbers of the structure are so dry after a 100 or 150 years it doesn’t take much light it on fire .

    Yes, stripping paint, whether with a heat gun or chemical is very time consuming. And yes, there is a fire hazard if not careful with the heat gun. Pressure washing and scraping is best for most applications. The only times I have ever done full out stripping is if the customer wanted to go back to completely bare wood for the sake of staining. For a general repaint, scraping loose paint is all that is necessary to get a solid surface for the next coat to adhere for years to come (primer will be necessary if painting over bare wood or oil/lacquer based paint).

    Just in case you are curious, I am a full time professional paint contractor who has been in the industry for 28 years. I've worked in multiple states in the eastern US on all sorts of projects. (Not advertising, just giving a context for my advice.)

    • Since baking doesn't have to be all that precise, just make your best guess and things should be fine.
    • How often you should water your lawn apparently depends on the type of grass, the soil, and the local weather. Or that's what my dad told me, anyway.
    • I know virtually nothing about Roombas, First Blood, airport standards for visibility, high roads, protests at space launches, NYC train cars, or the journal you're submitting a paper to, so I'll be skipping these questions.
    • When it comes to the history of the English subjunctive, this PDF may be of assistance.
    • Can't help with mathematical proofs, alas.

    I’ve given up on lawn watering . It does nothing but run up
    My h2o bill in the city , and continually run my well equipment in the country. And I don’t fertilize or apply any chemicals . Let the crabgrass and chickweed and waterever else comes up and take over . Hey , it’s gets green , I mow it , that it’s . It’s what we call “ native grass “ lol. If I do any seeding to cover a bare area , it’s done in February so to take advantage of the areas rainy season feb through may .

    @creedhands Thanks for the advice! Is there a way to remove iron stains (from hard water) off limestone? All the painter's I've contacted advised just painting over it. However that defeats the purpose of even having limestone if there is a way to remove it, and restore it's original brilliance without covering it up.

    @LovenLight a pressure washer with detergent dispenser works well with oxiclean type products alternatively if you have lots of free time or a small amount of limestone, a finely abrasive rubbing compound and a power buffer would do the trick. I'd suggest a clear sealer after cleaning to make future cleanings easier.

    Interesting how this thread provokes the "only cuddle topics" police, but ones like "how to wash your cat", "Back street boys or nsync", "I was offended", or "which is best" are acceptable threads.

    To make this cuddle related, I like to cuddle while stripping paint.

    There’s no police. People can post whatever they want. I just find it absolutely hilarious that it would even occur to someone to ask about stripping paint on a cuddle forum. I mean... why??!!!

    Perhaps some members feel more comfortable to ask here than elsewhere. Even Google can be wrong. A personal explanation of paint stripping, step by step, may be more beneficial for this member performing such a seemingly strenuous task. I'll be purchasing a tattoo gun soon, and I am inexperienced. Since I'm here, any suggestions?

    This is very germane to a cuddle site. I now have the idea to Tom Sawyer my cuddle partners into stripping off the old paint and put on the new. It is such grand fun and I wouldn’t wish to deny anyone the opportunity.

    I've used both methods to good effect when I did home renovation and landscaping. Though why people want limestone retaining walls still eludes me...
