  • @CuddleDuncan Ah, I see it works. I thought the video had been deleted from YouTube.

@creedhands: Eh... no. Not having sex is very different from having sex that's safe.

See, in the one case (which is mandatory in what'shisface's hypothetical) you're having sex, and in the other case (which I prefer) you're not having sex.

Edit: I understand the urge to believe that you're having safe sex when actually you're not having sex at all, though. I myself have to fight the urge to believe that I'm an excellent driver—very safe behind the wheel—because I'm never behind the wheel, and so obviously I practice very safe driving by the simple means of never practicing the art of driving at all, ever.

The human brain, man. It is a mess.

  • So, are we offended tonight? I just wanted to know how I should be feeling.

    Regards!

  • I'm not particularly offended at the moment @Importance but the day is young...

@quixotic_life I haven't been offended by you yet. Are you taking orders?

Uhhhh... hmmm... yes, okay, I'll have the offense sandwich platter with annoyance on the side and a tall glass of righteous indignation.

  • Um... actually @squeakytoy ~

    😉🤪

  • I'm offended that in a thread I started, with the intent to celebrate a new day and some of the relief it brought me, that others got offended, by others stating their offense, and kept 'one upping' the degrees of their felt offendedness and there by getting the thread closed.

    Really?!
MUST WE WASTE OUR VOLUNTEER MODERATORS' PRECIOUS TIME by flagging things we don't like, or elevating such things to a perceived infraction of site rules, which then shuts down a conversation? Where (IMO) in this case, and in recent others, rules weren't really being broken. There's just a mess of debates and dumb jokes that people disagree with.

I just don't get it sometimes.

Maybe I really need to work on lowering my offense threshold... because towards the end of the thread somone posted the following (the likes of which I've seen elsewhere, posted by others), and it was only then I felt a twinge of offense...

"I don't care what anyone talks about on the forums. I just found it a little rude to hijack somebody else's thread because you don't like the topic."

I very much like and appreciate the person who posted it, but this way of thinking makes a lot of assumptions and carries a mess of entitlement too. It assumes I'd care about my thread being derailed (personally I enjoy the fluidity of conversation and don't care if it goes off topic), assumes I (and others) are closed to other people's points of view or disagreement with our own, that I'm closed to growing my understanding of another's opinions, and finally it assumes I'm incapable of speaking up or defending myself when I feel wronged (which I don't think I was).

    TL;DR
Sigh... I think the majority of us in the forums really need to learn how to calm down... and maybe sit on our hands for a bit...

    @quixotic_life

In my experience, I've found that a great deal of people on the CC forum are either a) offended incredibly easily, or b) the type to seek out offense in anythjng.

It kind of reminds me of Deviant Art, in a way. Anything that isn't praise, or isn't entirely positive, is taken as an attack to somebody.

Of course, this is the internet, and it would be silly to not expect extreme reactions. But I feel that comparing many on the CC forum to the ridiculously hypersensitive teenagers who take everything extremely personally, on Deviant Art, is apt.

Also: the ability for people to flag anything that they don't personally enjoy or agree with is ****ing absurd.

@quixotic_life: I appreciated your thread. Never felt the urge to celebrate Inauguration Day before—each new president seemed roughly the same as the last to me—but this one... this one was different.

Biden would have to be exceedingly incompetent to be even roughly the same as Trump.

I mean, we'll see! But it doesn't seem likely, and so I'm definitely feeling a bit celebratory. I may even get out the Parma Violets and make a cup of mint tea. Go nuts.

What do you want to bet somebody'll be offended by my second paragraph?

And yet offense doesn't change facts. To return to the original point of this thread: no matter what the thing is, somebody somewhere is hideously offended by it. You can be offended by anything if you really work at it. Some people don't even have to work!

Offense is a thing that happens in your own head. If all you are is offended, well... deal with it where it's happening.

    So true!

Nobody has the power to offend you. One must decide to react by internalizing and judging that which is external in order to be offended.

  • @quixotic_life - I really want to apologize for some of the comments I made in your thread. I get a little carried away sometimes. I can't deactivate since I have an active booking on this site, but I'm gonna refrain from posting for a few months and just focus on school.

  • @Mike403 ~ No need to apologize ~ Really!! Or to silence yourself! As stated, any offense felt is on me to deal with. I was just using your comment to illustrate my points.

    Comment away my friend!! 🤗🥰

  • @UltimateChungus I am offended that you are not easily offended. This is an outrage!

@quixotic_life While you may enjoy the flow of conversation when a thread goes off topic, it is against the forum rules and can result in a ban. Not saying I endorse the policy, I am just saying the way it is.

  • Too much fun, once I realize most of it is venting and in jest. We would all do well to let go of offense.

  • Oooh... @DarrenWalker ~ I really like that...

"Offense is a thing that happens in your own head. If all you are is offended, well... deal with it where it's happening."

Easier said than done as it requires some mental gymnastics at times, but a great reminder / framing nonetheless.

@UltimateChungus ~ What you're saying makes a lot of sense to me due to the varied degrees of arrested development many are afflicted with. The amount of work some have to put in to not only recognize the ways their low distress tolerance is impacting them and others, but to also then learn from all that, plus develop the tools needed to not be so miserable ~ it's a lot! So I can see why many don't choose changing and prefer to just feel like a victim instead (even though they're really only victimizing themselves).

@FunCartel ~ I didn't know that going off topic could get one banned. I've seen threads closed for that taking place... But now that you've shared this I'm surprised any of us are still here! ~ Lol

  • @FunCartel and @quixotic_life - I'm not sure I recall anyone being banned for going off topic. I'm surprised when threads don't go off topic.

  • @Sideon I stand corrected—I do mean threads closed as a result. My apologies.

  • Who do you think will win the Chiefs-Bills game this weekend? I promise I won't be offended by your choice! 🏈

  • @FunCartel - no problem. I was worried that my one brain cell had forgotten something.
