How many syllables does "cuddling" have? A poll

In the haiku thread, I saw a few haikus where the word "cuddling" was used, and I suddenly realized that not everyone says it with the same amount of syllables. So I thought I'd make a poll.

  • It's a difficult one. I put 3, but as you say it could be 2 (cudd ling) or 3 (cudd l ing). Useful for haiku!

Yeah! I say it in 3 too (CUD-dl-ling), but I could totally see it being pronounced as CUD-ling as well.

  • If you are from alabama as I am, it can have up to 4

  • Cuh duh l-ing
Ling is kinda a sing songy split syllable

It's a southern accent thing shrugs lotsa that around these parts 😉

  • CUD-dl-in-guh?

  • Yet another post that proves my mind lives in a sub sewer level I had to reread that lol

  • Omg! @LyleLuvsHuggles ~ So did I!!! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

  • 3, normally, but can be 2 depending on if used in a haiku B)

  • At last!! A question we can debate without first donning full combat gear.

I'm with @Plato33 – I put 3 but could just as easily have put 2. Amazed that it can reach 4 syllables!

Three. It's only got two if you pronounce it wrong 😉

  • And there's always "hug" if you haven't got enough free syllables!

@pmvines, @LyleLuvsHuggles And to think I put "less than 2 or more than 3" as a joke option :joy: Welp, you learn something new every day.

@sjb1973 If ya stay ready, ya don't have to git ready

  • @squeakytoy this is true but those middle of the night bathroom runs are a real issue if you're in armor...

  • [Deleted User]squeakytoy (deleted user)

@LyleLuvsHuggles Darn. If only knights put a trap door in the back of their chainmail like they do with some onesie pajamas.

  • @squeakytoy Oh chain isn't THAT bad but the picture was PLATE and that takes a whole second person and TOOLS to open up it's also worn with 2 to 4 layers of padding beneath it, so it's not a quick thing to get out of...

  • @sjb1973 what have you started?!!

  • [Deleted User]squeakytoy (deleted user)

@LyleLuvsHuggles It looks like he has chain mail covering his derriere (not all plates)! And I guess even if he couldn't get out of the armor or free his booty in time, uh, at worst it would be like a colander.

  • With apologies for derailing this thread further, here's the video you never knew you needed today @squeakytoy @LyleLuvsHuggles @Plato33 .....

So at most, the maximum number of syllables in "cuddling" is about the time it takes (in minutes) to remove all your plate armor.

There! See? We stayed on topic after all!
