Something weird that probably hasn't happened to anyone else

All of mine would have to come with multiple trigger warnings. Or be sold in a brown paper wrapper.

  • When Star Wars (Episode 5, I think) came out, my parents took my very young self (think baby or toddler) to see it. Apparently I cried at the exact moment Luke lost his hand.

I can only think of one thing in my life that I'm certain has never happened to anyone else. It was extraordinarily bad luck.

Background: I have a problem with accidentally dropping things into toilets in a very specific way. I'll drop something into the sink (ie. toothbrush, plastic floss container) so that it falls down one side, whips across the bottom and up the other side, flies through the air, and lands with a plop right into the middle of the open toilet beside the sink.

Maybe that's happened to someone else, but I don't think this has:

One time I had the toilet lid CLOSED. I had just put in my contact lenses and was putting away the contact lens container in the medicine cabinet. I dropped the contact lens lid for the right eye. As I watched it go down one side of the sink, I knew what was going to happen, but I thought, "Ha HA! I was prepared this time, the toilet lid is closed!"

I watched that damned contact lens lid bounce off the tank and slide beneath the seat, and then heard the gentle plop as it landed in the water.

    I'm pretty sure I'm cursed.

I have one thing. When I was in my teens I was at an animal sanctuary and was petting a tiger through the fence (btw, don't do that!). But then she bit my thumb and wouldn't let go and the harder I pulled the harder she bit down. She broke through the skin and I was able to see a little blood and I was about to really start freaking out when one of the workers walked by. The girl looked at the two of us and asked "is she biting your finger?" She then walked over, slapped the cage and yelled "Let him go". I was too embarrassed to say that I was hurt so I hid my finger and walked away quickly lol. I had the scar for a few years until it faded away.

  • I once lived in a haunted house, yes, it's true !!!!!

  • I was almost killed by someone wielding an axe.

I beat up my crippled dad after a heated theological debate. In my defense, he struck me first, and (in my mind) if he was handi-capable of striking me, then he should have also been handi-capable of dealing with the consequences of that action.

  • I have had a freshly cleaned 1911 colt jam TWICE in a row while trying to speed eat its contents.... (for the non gun people those things just DON'T F'ING JAM like ever, particularly when they've been freshly cleaned and maintained) the odds are so astronomically low for this to occur that I just gave up on the idea...

I'm much better these days though... mostly

  • I was in a capsized sailboat in freezing temps at 1.5 year old.... after being rescued from a burning house at 9 months. Then at 16 I survived an absurd car crash where someone should have died - without a single scratch... and my godmother knew it happened before we told her the next day! I’m a surviver, apparently.

I’ve also been in a movie, been on dates with celebrities, and serenaded by Adam Levine.

a horse stepped on my foot

    a kangaroo yanked my ponytail

I was stampeded by a herd of elephants

I almost drowned in a swimming pool at 3 years old.

I had nine teeth pulled out on the same day at 10 years old.

  • @LuxeLockIn oh my I am so sorry that is really rough ! Being serenaded by Adam Levine must have been horrifying ! I am glad you survived it all

  • Wow, this thread is utterly fascinating, heartbreaking, and funny.

I shall have to give some thought to my own post, in answer to the topic.

  • When I was 10 I had an intersex dog I named Myra after Myra Breckenridge.

  • I was stung by dozens of Yellow Jackets at about age 4. Fortunately wasn’t allergic.

I was stabbed in the butt once with a pencil. Still have't got the lead out.

  • I accidentally stabbed myself in the leg with a pencil when I was a kid and it took years for the lead mark to go away.

    And pencil stabbing number 4 ! Do I hear a 5 ?

  • When I was a kid I used to creep out my classmates by sticking pins and needles into my skin. Later I developed a fondness for piercings, though I never really left jewelry in long enough and the holes would grow over. Now I hate needles and have been known to pass out while having my blood taken at the Dr office .

It is time to ban lead pencils! Who is with me?

I guess the graphite pens are a safer option but then you don't get the satisfaction of running them through the electric sharpener until it's nothing but an eraser with a long assed point at the end

  • At age 5, I put my hand in the ostrich cage at the zoo. He bit my hand. I didn't tell the teacher because I didn't want to get into trouble.

When I was 9 we buried my grandmother's pet cow, who died of old age. I decided Mrs. Cow should have a proper send off, so I officiated a little ceremony with a bunch of people present and my grandma and I made pie and served it with milk (from the herd) for Mrs. Cow's wake.

My grandfather moved a boulder from another field to be her marker.

tl;dr I organized and was priestess at a well-attended funeral for a cow.

  • I randomly sat by the former WCW and WWE champ Goldberg at an airport. I recognized him. We spoke about cars for several minutes. Shook his hand and wished him safe travels. I made no effort to get a photo with or get his autograph.

  • Many years ago, if I wouldn’t have been wearing a suit in my former office one night, and able to demonstrate my name was on multiple printed documents that were released to the press or submitted to a federal agency, then I would have likely been taken to jail due to an improbable series of circumstances of mistaken identity.
