Resources for oxytocin withdrawal?

Can anyone direct me to resources on this site or another for someone experiencing some blues (perhaps oxytocin withdrawal?) after a cuddle session? Thanks in advance for your help!

  • My only advice would be to have a cool down period of cuddling before you end. It helps me rebalance towards the end, and leave without a cold turkey feeling. Hope this helps!

  • The solution is to never stop cuddling ;p

But more seriously, @ZacRedBear what do you mean by a cool down period of cuddling during a cuddling session? Like ...doing lighter cuddles at the end, or..?

  • @cuddleYouMe Yes, exactly, just a little less contact with some extra space between. I prefer to “starfish”, where we’d both just spread out on the bed/floor. Ankles/feet cradled, then maybe my forearm/elbow under my partner’s neck, and just a little extra space between torsos than the previous cuddle position. Then of course a good hug for the road 😊

  • I use a fleece blanket, a carton of Camel filterless, and a couple boxes of Imodium washed down with green tea.

  • I had a great multi hour cuddling session with an amazing cuddler... I was drooling and walking on air and just felt fantastic, then and afterwards I woke up the next day feeling refreshed, then suddenly I had a major crash in the afternoon. It felt like severe depression but it only lasted a few hours. I also cried a lot, which is a rare thing for me. I have a lot of positive and negative stress in my life right now, so I don’t know if or how correlated the crashy feelings were. Not a lot of help I’m afraid but I would love to know if people get “the day after blues” after exceptional cuddle sessions.

  • Look up tips for mdma comedown since that is basically the same thing 🤣

  • That's true, the same things you would do for any drop in serotonin; stretching, walking, being in nature, cuddling with a pet, self touch on bare skin like arms or shoulders, and very importantly drink plenty of water. Whenever you are working through something bodily or processing emotions you need more water than you think you do. Grounding work is essential for me, it may benefit you.
