Does Singing or Whispering Sweet Nothings Make Cuddles Better?

[Deleted User]thesweetsnuggle (deleted user)

How do you guys feel about using auditory senses as part of your cuddle experience? Do you enjoy it, enjoy doing it, or would rather cuddle in comfortable silence instead? I had my first cuddle session this week and sang oldies love songs and whispered kind words to my cuddle buddy, as well as leading a breathing exercise in a soothing voice! I think adding an auditory component can make cuddling feel even more warm, comforting and affectionate. What do you guys think? 🤔 I wonder if I should keep cuddling the ears as well as the open arms 😂

The gentle art of Oo-mox .

  • I would never sing since it would not be pleasant to hear. I would not mind someone singing to me if they had a pleasant voice. 'Sweet nothings' seems more appropriate for a romantic partner. I would read a poem or play soft relaxing music. But I would be equally comfortable with silence or just the sounds of nature.

How do I feel about using my actual ears during a cuddle? Uh... well, it's not like I cut them off beforehand or anything....

Anyway, more seriously: I dunno if I'd like what you're describing, personally. I mean, my buddy and I chat sometimes, sure. But mostly the auditory component is, you know, the Game Grumps screaming about goo, or whatever movie we're watching, or the sound effects of some video game we're playing interspersed with our own comments and yelling.

Love songs and gentle compliments and what-have-you would prooobably make me want to make a run for it. What is this, a cuddle or a romantic prelude? Geez louise. Gives me the shivers just thinking about it. Ugh.

...So, uh... ask your buddy, I guess!

The only time I personally approve of such things is if the person is actually whispering "nothing" into my ear. Ideally they'll sound sad at first, and then become more joyous as they repeat "nothing" like a mantra.

  • Gentle singing to soft music relaxes me.

  • Not really for me , simply cus the sweet whisper stuff is kinda girlfriendish . As a pro one thing you will encounter is men who have trouble distinguishing something as part of the session and an actual girlfriend / date type thing so if you wanna do that then great and if your client likes it then great. I would just be sure to reserve it for folks who seem mentally capable of not misreading it is all.

  • An auditory component, sure. Talking is as standard as silence. Breathing exercises in a soothing voice? Also standard for certain types of professional cuddler.

I believe it's quite common to listen to music, so I don't see why it couldn't be provided by the voices of one or both cuddlers. I'm sure somebody somewhere is using ASMR instead of music. No doubt in the future somebody will offer a luxury enhanced cuddle service, with the sounds of a storm playing through hidden speakers and a flunky outside throwing buckets of water at the window.

    However ....

sweet nothings n. colloquial sentimental trivia, endearments. (OED)

are not really appropriate for platonic cuddles in my view. I'm absolutely with @pmvines on this point. (If you are cuddling with your partner, obviously that's different.)

Depending on my cuddle partner, I'll engage in quiet conversation, ASMR, reading to someone quietly, humming etc. but sweet nothings is probably crossing the line. The reading to someone quietly might be a good compromise though - it's similar to having the app Headspace tell you a bedtime story, but you can feel their chest vibrating.

  • I think anything goes as long as the two agree and it feels platonic to both. I love to sing when I cuddle someone, if they're into it.

  • I prefer just some light conversation/small talk, or even a 'comfortable' silence.

yeah not my thing. personally or professionally. but if you’re so hellbent on the extra, it might be fun to take turns reading paragraphs of a mystery novel.

If you were a professional cuddler whom I hired, I'd give you the permission to tell me how I am the tallest lol lady with the prettiest smile in town. Otherwise I'd rather not get all lovey dovey with words when platonically cuddling. Unless the second exception, I am cuddling with someone I am in a relationship with.

Though I don't mind a genuine compliment here and there like one would give to their non cuddle buddy friends.

  • Yeah whispering sweet nothings seems more appropriate for a romantic relationships. I'd prefer to steer clear of that. But if they wanna sing then so be it. I'll survive it.

  • Personally I don't think I would want my cuddle partner to sing TO me or directly in my ear, however I am known to randomly hum my own made up tunes. A lot of time I don't even realize I'm doing it. So I think it would be beneficial to have that conversation with each partner upfront to see if it's a hard no, super yes, or maybe/let's try it and see how it goes.

  • With head beside head and talking quietly has been suitable when late and does not disturb others in next room

  • I would prefer just listening to music, or just having a conversation. No singing and no whispering sweet nothings in my ear.

  • I can plotonically whisper sweet nothings to my cat, but with another human, just seems inappropriate.

  • Noóoooooo

I had a cuddler read a poem to me, that was cool, I've been asked to read while cuddling, I found that really cool, I don't think whispering has a place in cuddling, but love clear communication, and appreciate when someone says they are enjoying it, or that it feels good, it affirming. Hearing someone's breathing relax, hearing sighs, Laughs. Sound does play a role in cuddling we all need to slow it down and be present to utilize it,

  • I would advise on holding off on the whispers to at least the second cuddle time. I'm thinking that low ear whisper from behind may take on that creepy anonymous caller before the suave tall dark n handsome experience 🙄

  • I prefer silence or music or a normal conversation. Singing and whispering is too intimate for professional cuddling, I believe it would definitely send a wrong message.
