In the spirit of being pure platonic, would you advocate for CC to

edited June 2021 in General

Completely get rid of search filters except for age/ gender / location-distance & last online …. Remove all selections from profile such as body type / ethnicity / height /…. & completely remove any pictures (for both pros & enthusiasts) absolutely no more pictures , where picture sharing only becomes authorized after 2 parties agree to cuddle after reading each other’s profiles (if they like) / communicating back & forth & or determining they are a right fit to cuddle …. Same would apply to pros (it’ll be against tos/ rules & policy to share any pics until 2 parties agree to cuddle -regardless if enthusiast with enthusiast / pro & enthusiast / or pro & pro) and then once they both accept to cuddle & set up time & date through a newly created portal, both parties will automatically receive a pic of each other which they are free to add / remove / & update at anytime?

  • Can you lay off the long titles, please? Short and sweet. I'm not touching this one, as editing would remove your poll - but moving forward, keep this in mind. Thanks.

  • No problem Sid, if possible if you or @mark can shorten the characters for thread creation as I’m not quite sure what justifies an allowable amount of characters (& I was trying to be mindful when creating this one) thanks.

This thread is too convoluted for me. I got a headache just reading the post.

    Terrible idea. Absolutely, 100% no.

Like it or not, someone's physical appearance is an important factor for the large majority of people. I'm not saying most people consider it critical to have an extremely attractive cuddle buddy, but they do want someone whose appearance they find pleasant. And we could talk around forever about the fact that it's unfortunate that superficial factors play a role in, well, anything really. But they do. There's no getting around it.

Even if we don't care whether someone is attractive, the simple fact is that cuddling someone who's 5'2" and 110 lbs is a very different experience from cuddling someone who's 6'2" and 210 lbs, which is again a very different experience from cuddling someone who's 5'8" and 350 lbs. Each of those cuddles is going to have a different level of appeal to different people. The idea that someone shouldn't be able to know which of those experiences they're getting into before committing to a cuddle is inane.

Two things would happen if this system were implemented:
    1. People would mass message tons of prospective cuddle buddies, wait until they got the pic, and then decide whether to proceed with the cuddle or cancel/ghost.
    2. People would abandon the site in droves because it doesn't have the most basic functionality a site like this should have.

Finally, I'll mention that someone's pictures actually say a decent amount about them as a person. It's not completely just "here's what my face and body look like." It's, "here's a little bit of my personality, how I act, what I like, that you can't get just from reading some text I wrote." If someone's only picture is a selfie with terrible lighting from a weird ass angle, well that says something. If someone's pictures are shots of them smiling and having fun in several different cities, well that says something too.

Cuddling is a physical, tactile thing. A bunch of text is just not enough to determine whether you're interested in cuddling someone. At least it isn't enough for most people.

  • If you're in the 40 -50 character range, that's helpful. The impact is longer thread titles get wonky formatting on mobile. Less of an issue on full browsers. Thanks, much.

  • Yes, I see that when creating a title there’s a limit set in place , would be very helpful if an update can be made to limit it to the 40-50 range you mention & to not unintentionally go over, thanks again.

Actually, now that I think about it, it would be pretty neat if people, especially pros, could put short little introductory videos on their profile. That way you'd really get a bit of insight into their personality before you booked. Would probably be a great promotion tool for pros.

If people want to get a sexual charge out of their cuddle, they'll find a way to get it no matter what (so long as they aren't caught and booted from the site).

Meanwhile, a ton of perfectly platonic forms of attraction would be hampered by this.

Why make it difficult for people to find buddies based on aesthetic attraction and sensorial attraction and amical attraction and so on for the sake of trying to squash sexual attraction? It's overkill, and I strongly doubt it'd solve the problem.

So no, I wouldn't advocate for this.

  • I pick up a lot from a photo. It's one of my screening tools. So no, I wouldn't advocate either.

  • No. The random little images help me identify who is who. Until they change it and then I'm like, "Oh someone new, yay!" Followed by, "Wait, that user name is familiar. Oh, yep it's ____. Still yay! I remembered a name (sort of...)"

  • I'd be in favour of every cuddler having their main photo be of a cat. Non-cats being allowed for any other photo.

@UKGuy: Ooh. I call dibs on this dork.

  • @UKGuy 😅 that'll be cool!

Absolutely not. At the end of the day, many people are gonna people and want those filters. Removing them is likely to just result in longer profile descriptions or time waste that could've been avoided. You have the option to essentially make your profile more deserted than a desert. However then you are likely to not get any interest. Or waste more time then you would otherwise by utilizing whichever filters you feel comfortable using publicly.

    The words
"I'm petite, but I'm strong especially my legs which make me a better cuddler than I might look. Don't mind if you're lots bigger than me! I'm very curious and want to look into everything, which probably verges on being nosy sometimes. Recycling is my main thing and if you're not into that we're probably not compatible."

    The picture

Having said that, anything we can do to de-sexualise cuddling is good, and I'm glad we're thinking about it. The trouble is that nothing would work better than modest liberalisation of the sex work laws in the USA..... and while that would be good for us, we can't advocate it because it that would feed into the very misconceptions we are trying to dispel.

  • I like the video idea that @CuddleWho suggested. We have been accustomed to better and better searches and filters on our social media. The more the better. People can leave fields wide open where they don't care. Making filters and searches less detailed will hurt the site. People will leave and your competition will gobble them up. I think a better idea is to promote and educate on the concept of platonic. It's important that everyone is clear on what that means to this site and community. The more ambiguity the more danger to our community. The robots are coming, don't let it be us! :-)

  • Forgot to say that I have a hazy recollection that @CuddleWho's video idea is already being considered by the site management as an optional extra.

  • Lol absolutely not. Photos are used in screening to determine if someone has been previously banned or is a problematic client. Remove that and all safety goes out the window.

Yes, photos can be shared once an agreement has been met but then there's all this time wasting doing a song and dance just to discover it's Tom the panty sniffing pervert you blocked under a different username.

  • @Envie I thought his name was Pete but your point is a good one. I could see a lot of situations where a lot of time wasted on messaging and logistics only to have one of the parties dip and ghost for whatever reason after pictures are exchanged.

  • @hugonehugall you’re absolutely right, not only will having such a system not be celebrated by most, & will begin the immediate decline of most members, but there is also the fact that after the very few successful bookings happen , once pictures are exchanged, there will be the inevitable dipping & ghosting of one of the parties afterwards.

  • Overall, I don't really understand your post. It looks like you are asking if CC should do away with certain aspects of our profiles, including out pictures.

As @Envie said, pictures can be used as a screening process or a way of determining if a pro. or non - pro. would want to cuddle with that person, not necessarily on the persons body type, etc. but give an idea of how they present themselves. I look for the women;'s smile, overall picture and other factors as to whether I would be interested in meeting her.

I voted no because I think having pictures is beneficial for both parties especially for the professionals. If I couldn’t show my picture on my profile I would have a lot less clients reaching out to me and it would be overwhelming for clients to have to remember usernames and sift through profiles. I do however think we could do without age body type and relationship status as long as everyone is over 18 I don’t think age should be relevant and that would cut down on age discrimination, I don’t think body type should be apart of this because body type is subjective and what one person may see as “curvy” for example another person may say is “a little extra” or what one person sees as “athletic” may seem average to another. I also disagree with the relationship status part because this is a platonic community not a dating site and people can lie about their relationship statuses regardless. Especially for us professionals it seems inappropriate to have to disclose our relationship status. Thankfully it’s an option not to fill out body type and relationship status but I think you have to show your age.

  • “ It looks like you are asking if CC should do away with certain aspects of our profiles, including our pictures.” - yup you understood correctly lol

  • Really well put @xandriarain ty for your contribution!

  • Like democracy and law, CC is far from perfect, but remains the best platform for platonic cuddling from my perspective. Good to see more than 89% of our community responded "no" in your survey.

Thanks you so much @herby357 & I totally agree!!

@CuddleWho thank you for the awesome breakdown !!

  • Photos can also tell you if someone has bad hygiene. That is my number one thing that I tell people before we meet. If someone looks like they just jumped out of a garbage can, I’m not meeting them. 😬

  • @Tranquilescape 😂😂 yes!!! I think the saying is true - “a picture is worth a thousand words” - soo much we can get out of pics … you can pick up on that & personality / demeanor / temperament / intent / their spirit and so much more @littermate is absolutely right !!

  • It’s not a bad idea in theory, as I think somepeople look at someone and instantly lose interest for some superficial reason. But, I think it will result in more people being ghosted after pictures are revealed due to their strong preferences, or people working the system and ‘agreeing’ on a cuddle just to see pictures

Also many people use photos to help judge one’s ‘normalness and personality, and this especially helps the women feel safer meeting men
