How do you handle no shows?

I've had a few instances of last minute appointments when I could of been attending events,
ex: today I could of went to pride NYC, but instead I waited hours for a potential cuddle to reply only for them to say they could not find a hotel?
Is it worth scheduling the day of? I feel like leaving a no show review wouldn't bring the time back or help in the future.

  • I usually only do same day sessions with repeat cuddlers. If they have to get a hotel and I have never had a session with them, I want confirmation of the hotel and only if it’s less than an hour drive for me. I just don’t like doing same day sessions with people I’ve never met. I have to plan a day or two beforehand. Meet at a cafe for a free ice breaker and go straight to the cuddle after.

  • I don’t do last minute sessions unless it’s with a repeat client honestly. I’ve had a lot of no-shows and wasted money to meet someone who never cared to let me know they weren’t going to make it. Not to mention, I have children and work a full-time job so I’d prefer a client to be considerate enough to give me a proper heads up if both interested in a session as well as needing to cancel (I know sometimes that isn’t possible but let me know you need to cancel anyway).

  • I feel like leaving a no show review wouldn't bring the time back or help in the future.

Definitely leave bad karma. Will it help you immediately? Maybe not. But it will contribute to establishing a culture where people realize that this behavior is not acceptable.

  • Kindly request a deposit or payment for wasted time since you put it to the side for them, depending how they react follow up with the karma … yes things happen but it would be inconsiderate in my opinion not to compensate for your wasted time … I think half of whatever the charge would have been would be fair but that’s just me

  • I didn’t think no shows was a problem now that the theaters are open again.

(Nonpro here) I had one cuddler cancel 3 times in a row on the same days. All the people I have made plans with have canceled except for my one regular. Its annoying.

It hasn't happened here, but based on other instances of "no showings" in my life, I'm pretty sure I'd go through the gamit of feelings related to the cycles of disappointment.

It sucks to pull things together enough to follow through on mutual plans, just to have the other party not. Then to think something such as, "I'm feeling anxious but in a good way... I'm sure this'll turn out okay!" Can make it that much harder the next time around when the opportunity knocks, or doesn't as the case may be.

That said, addressing the thoughts around leaving negative Karma, I'd like to suggest waiting a day. It may be they have a good reason for the "no show", but aren't in a position to contact you just yet. Plus that'll give you time to move into a less escalated state and present your concerns in a neutral/"just the facts" manner. I only mention this because I've seen a few hot-headed doozies that are nearly incoherent (which takes away from the point they're trying to make).

  • Sorry this happened to you @JordanWinter Because I derive part of my income from freelance work and have experienced the loss of opportunity and income that results from this sort of inconsiderate behavior, I always reserve my hotel room as soon as my cuddle partner confirms our appointment day/time, and then I fwd. confirmation of the reservation to her. If you don’t feel comfortable requesting a deposit from 1st-time clients (I do) maybe getting getting confirmation of a hotel reservation is an option. While I agree with the advice to wait a day or so, I wouldn’t leave the behavior unaddressed if you haven’t gotten a very satisfactory explanation + apology by then, and karma’s the place to do it. Good luck!

  • @JordanWinter I recognise this. It used to happen to me sometimes, in a different context.

What's happening is that you are making yourself too available. In your enthusiasm to offer good customer service and expand your business (both of which are good things), you have accidentally gone too far.

These clients perceive you as having nothing better to do than sit around waiting for them. They regard your time as being of no value, either to you or to them. Consequently they feel that that they can make an enquiry, of whatever seriousness, and then get back to you or not as they please.

The solution is in two parts. Firstly, tighten up your procedures. Same day bookings have a dubious reputation at best, and in practice it is difficult for somebody to arrange them when it involves a hotel.

More importantly, think about how you value your time, and how you communicate that value to others. If you want to go to Pride, then go. If you are desperate for business, then still go - as you have discovered, accepting tentative bookings on the day doesn't get you paid. Be willing to say no, and say no sometimes. With good clients, it will be ok.

  • I always need at least a 24 hour notice, unless I’m truly doing nothing.

  • @CuddleDuncan ~ "... think about how you value your time, and how you communicate that value to others ... "

Well put, and is so flippin important in many facets of one's life! It's something I was late to learn, have been slow to embrace, but I'm actively nurturing a relationship with now. And I'm so thankful to intentionally be doing so!! Making little shifts in awareness/actions can create the most pleasant of differences/outcomes!! 😊

  • Well said @CuddleDuncan et al.

I would advise that you go where you want to go and have the client book a hotel nearby it, if you'll try doing same day. Or see if you have things to do which you could leave any minute nearby the client's choice of hotel. Otherwise like others said, don't accept same day especially for first timers who haven't built trust. Also, give yourself a limit on how long to wait. Waiting for hours doesn't seem reasonable to me. Unless it is someone you really trust and trust that they are having an emergency. Even then give yourself a limit. Cuddling is not an emergency, they can wait another day if they already got you waiting like 10 to 30 minutes tops.

  • Checking reviews ahead of time can sometimes help...

  • @CuddleWho ,

Personally I have never had this problem. But if someone no - shows I would definitely leave a bad karma review.

I would also be careful pre - paying in cases where you have never met.

  • I just cuddle for free currently, but when I do, I vet people pretty thoroughly beforehand, and make sure we solidify a date and time for any planned cuddle, usually includes a video chat. If they no show after that, I'd say a bad cuddle review with explanation of all the steps I tried to take to make the other person feel comfortable and the like. I haven't had to do it, the people that have cancelled let me know early. I'm also not a pro though. If you were a pro, you could leave bad karma if you took good steps leading up to it (so you can justify your reasoning). Though a problem is many people may be scared to leave bad karma for fear of receiving bad karma back. Which is unfortunate and sort of defeats part of the purpose of the karma. Though if people cuddled more often, and had tons of good reviews, then a negative one here or there wouldn't amount to as much (plus you can reply to the karma, so you can justify your reasoning). And it may be problematic if you hosted at your place or if they know where you live and they are a disgruntled cuddler, so that is something to consider

  • @JordanWinter, I’m so sorry that your day was spoiled—it especially sucks to miss out on events that don’t come round often.

I do take same day appointments and I think it’s key to keeping busy in a small city with a handful of other pros. Most of my same-day appointments are business travelers who don’t always know their availability with a lot of notice.

One thing I couldn’t discern from your original post was whether you had a confirmation through the booking panel with this client? Without that confirmation, I wouldn’t wait around. Period.

  • I've never had a no show (a benefit of never having set up a meeting to cuddle), but if I did, particularly if it were a first meet, I'd want the meet to be somewhere public. Worst case no-show scenario, I can get a bite to eat and go home. Best case scenario, I find something to do.

  • @BrianL

This is actually one reason hosting is convenient. No-shows are still a pain, but at least I didn’t waste time going out and traveling.
