What SHOULD three star Karma represent?

Most Karma is five stars. We all know that what that means - it could be anything from 'satisfactory' to 'amazing' and that's fine.

We all know what one star Karma means. It's something which does not breach the Terms Of Service (TOS) but destroys the session. So, for example, somebody not turning up and not sending a message. Not as rare as we'd like to be. (If the TOS are breached then the person should be Reported to the Moderators. In more serious cases the police should be involved.)

Two, three and four star Karma is relatively uncommon. There are obvious social reasons for this, but my feeling is that part of the reason is that nobody really knows what it means. What kind of situation warrants one of these intermediate ratings? Have you ever given or received such a rating: what was the story?

And no, I haven't had a curious experience recently - this is a purely theoretical question!

I actually tend to think karma should be revamped. It's actually a little weird to publicly review and rate people you're making a level of personal connection with. Imagine if for instance a dating app had such a feature; how awkward would that be?

I could imagine 2 stars to mean "this session was basically satisfactory but I didn't have a great time", 4 stars to mean "good session but I didn't deeply connect with this person," etc, but no sane person wants to publicly rate others this way.

So I would like to see karma with only two ratings available, one to indicate that the session was satisfactory and one that it was not. In practice of course this is how 99% of people use karma anyway.

when i look at the reviews at like Amazon , for merchandise , if there’s a scale of one to five , three is middle of the road . Not fantastic , not a warning of a defect , it means acceptable . Except I think people don’t want to be described as acceptable , they have egos and such . I know people aren’t merchandise, they are people , and they don’t want to be described as just ... acceptable. If someone does deliver three stars , they might as week forget about cuddling someone else , because nobody want them to describe them that way

I like what @CuddleWho proposed. There seems to be this notion that the client is rating a human being, when they are in fact rating a service/experience. Maybe even simply provide a check box ✅ where you can indicate if the cuddling was beneficial. Checked means yes. And not checked is understood.

  • No one has addressed the comments section which is the more important component. The stars are highly subjective and three means something different for everyone. Three stars could mean it was a good session but there are things you would like to see improved.

But the comments allow you to explain the reasoning behind the choice of the rating. For this reason I think two choices are sufficient with the following attached below the two choices: Please Explain Why You Liked Or Did Not Like Your Session. Following that would be the comment box.

Stars and boxes are just stars and boxes unless context is provided by the user.

  • I too would like to see the karma system revamped from a 1-5 star rating into more of a binary system where you can simply indicate that the person showed up on time, was clean, was courteous, et al and then additional comments are just that. Time and time again, from both pro and enthusiast perspectives, karma means little more than two people met up successfully. You will rarely see bad karma or karma under 5 stars given, and it’s not hard to find out why. There’s fear of retaliation, and then there’s fear of being honest about your experience.

  • @Catloaf , for the cuddlers, there needs to be a checkbox about safety I believe. Did t hey feel safe during the session and if not why ? Did the client respect boundaries ? Those kinds of thngs.

When I give karma to a professional I always note that they were punctual,, pleasant and gave gored service.

  • @Lev136 gored service? That sounds painful. Kidding I know you meant good service.

  • @Ironman294 I think he meant gourd service. That is where they feed you bite sized pieces of butternut squash, pumpkin, and acorn squash in a brown sugar and apple glaze. It is divine.

Or maybe I am just out of my gourd.

  • Mmmm... Acorn squash! Makes wonderful soup! I'm near NJ. Please hook me up!

Three stars could be like, they arrived on time and the cuddling was wonderful, but you thereafter had a flea problem and the neighbor's cat was run over as she left.

  • Narrative after the star ratings are what I'm interested in. What clicked for them? Was there connection? What was memorable? Were they treated respectfully? I want to read in their words their experience. The number of stars doesn't mean much to me, personally.

I'm with @Sideon on this one.

I like the words behind it, there's so much more behind a karma review. stars are stars, to me, that is. And it does help as a visual species, to see something that can gauge those reviews, like a star system. Just like Yelp, except, in this case, the independent contractors, the professional cuddlers, are the ones being reviewed.

I always liked the idea of having extra badges that members can earn and have on their profile through booking, being on time, anniversary on site cuddling, forum involvement, ECT.

That way people get BOTH the reviews, and the quick play that this person is legit.

Just musing as usual over here, my opinion is just that, an opinion.

    Happy Cuddles. 🫖

  • I think the purpose is really to give people confidence that the person is real, safe and not completely inexperienced. Besides that, what makes a session Ok, good or great is completely subjective. It’s not likely that everyone will feel the same way as others towards the person. I’ve never had a bad experience so I’ve never not given 5 stars Karma. I don’t think it’s useful or appropriate to treat it like Amazons reviews for a product. So if I saw 3 stars or even one or two 1-stars amid a bunch of 5-stars, I’d just ignore it and assume it was something strange about the one posting unless they had something specific to say about safety etc. But I think it’s really just that a bunch of people giving a collective opinion towards the safety of the person.

  • I think a binary system with maybe some extra compliments to click on would be nice. For example, "Tidy space", "On Time", "Above and beyond."

At some point someone's going to invent the CuddleDash app, right?

  • Oh, there was an app for a while. Cuddlr, I think it was called. It wasn't anything on par with CC obviously, but it was...nixed pretty quick. For reasons you can probably guess.

  • [Deleted User]CharlesThePoet (deleted user)

    @Catloaf Yeah, annoyingly.

It will be nice in a few years time, maybe a decade or so, when there is an accredited cuddling program, and things like cuddler insurance, and so on are available so that such a system can safely exist.

And, of course, to download and use the app as a pro, client, or enthusiast would require background checks.

  • There are apparently talks like this already going on in the higher end of things, though not so broadly. Professionals who have been doing this for years and also broadly involved in bodywork are pushing for certain legislative motions within the cuddle therapy world. A code of ethics was recently developed by Sam Varnerin and a number of other pioneer, spearheading pros. I encourage anyone who is going pro to have a look at it on her website, and implement it in their own practice.

So, the work is underway. We still have such a long way to go though.

  • I'm actually not thrilled with the narrative/verbal part of karma either. Although I do like it when I receive an effusive review (and I kind of wish I hadn't deleted my old account where I had a ton of them), and I certainly don't blame anyone for leaving such a review... it's more private than what I would prefer to share with the world.

Obviously cuddling isn't dating, but it feels kind of like going on a bunch of first dates, and then I sit down with all the women I just went out with and tell them all exactly how each date went and how I felt about each of them, and they all also all tell each other how they felt about me. It's weird.

I've actually talked with a few cuddlers about this who say that for any 5-star karma they leave they will just write a boilerplate review, saying essentially the same thing for everyone, regardless of how they really feel about the person/session. I like this policy.

I like @mekkiec's idea of extra compliments to click on.

  • @CharlesThePoet there are actually several organizations that offer trainings and certifications for professional cuddlers and there are a few professional insurance companies that offer liability coverage to cuddlers.

@Ironman294 bwahahahahahah I’m giggling here thinking of someone goring another cuddler.

  • [Deleted User]CharlesThePoet (deleted user)

    @xandriarain

I know that there are certifications available, but I am not sure what they convey?

It’s simply because this is still in the “growing pains” stage, of course.

  • @Chris55555 probably not the most fun thing to happen, but such is life. The one thing I would hate during a cuddle is a wet Willie! That would be the worst!

  • I've always seen what happens with the 5 star system as strange. There is a range with 20% increments but apparently everything is either the best thing ever or the worst thing ever.

Personally I will rate stuff three stars most of the time because most things are average. Some things are two or four, but one or five star ratings are much more rare for me. I find if it goes to a thumbs up or thumbs down system I tend to stop using it for anything I would have rated between 2-4 stars....which is almost everything.

  • @JasonCuddles I give your post ⭐️⭐️⭐️

  • Slightly off topic, but here we go! I have no opinion what three stars should represent, but I do have to say that my special recipe four star chili is to die for!
