Not a fan of dogs

I'm a cat guy. I like soft and squishy and fluffy. Dogs wanna lick you and jump on you and get their claws and jaws and wet nose all over everything especially your face and skin. Their fur is rough, their bodies are tough, they don't seem to enjoy being petted like cats do, they're easily upset, easily overly-excited, bark too loud too much too often, pierce your ears, chase you around, wanna play catch and not let go of the ball 😆 are over-protective of their owners and whine and scratch incessantly when put away...

I'd have several if I lived in the country or a cabin or the woods etc... they make sense there. Not much else unless you need the protection or exercise.

I know they're 3 times as popular as cats. I get why people love them. But they ALWAYS want to get in the way of cuddling, well and everything else; cats only sometimes just wanna be petted and sometimes cuddle up. They're perfect random cuddle companions. I just struggle more with dogs because they want it to usually be about them when I'm trying to focus on being with someone or a conversation. Sorry I have an unpopular opinion. I'm OK if you state all the reasons why you love dogs, but they're so frustrating to me with cuddle comfort 😆

    This is super funny. I am on team dogs. I hate the smell of cats, the fact they poop indoors and how temperamental they are. I also have a tiny scratch in my eyebrow from my aunts evil cat, who was an identical sibling to her non-evil cat. Most of my experience in life has been that I tend to love dogs and lean towards dog owners as friends. Also, so many evil overlords have cats…which just confirms my theory.

    I had a little yapper chiweenie who would yap at everything constantly. I loved her but she was definitely annoying. Lol She died and I vowed I would never have another dog. My daughter now brings her new dog, a pitbull mix, over to visit and he's a sweetheart, quiet, well-behaved - she's training him well. I can almost see having another dog again, but I just don't want that responsibility. So untrained and most little dogs I think are a PITA. Well-trained dogs are nice. I can't stand when people baby their dogs though - you know - the "furbaby" people. 🙄

    I like dogs that don’t jump on me, don’t stick their nose in my crotch, don’t bark at me.

    If I were cuddling with someone who had a dog that was getting in the way, I’d ask for the dog to be confined to another room. I think that’s reasonable.

    Oh man... this thread is going to cause some tension. LOL. I grew up with dogs first, then cats. Always, always, always wanted a cat from the time I was little. My mother always lied and said she was allergic. My family, aside from my grandfather (who was very cat-like himself), hated cats. Stinky, smelly, mean, jumping on the counters, clawing the furniture...

    But then dogs have their charms too. Eating their own feces, pissing off the neighbours, tearing up the yard, pissing all over your floors if you can't get them out, they tend to be more destructive for furniture/house especially if they're larger, or an active and needy breed such as a Husky.

    But, I like to say there are no dirty cats, just dirty people who don't clean up after their cats. :'( My babygirl, Suzuka, is named so after her wonderful smell. ('Suzu' is a Japanese bell used in the Shinto religion, resembling the one you find on a cat's collar; 'ka' is short for the kanji I chose: 'kaori', which means 'fragrance' in Japanese). She always smells like a clean baby, and her butt is always pink - no poo. I don't know what it is - whether it's because she's part Balinese (and thus less dander), or because I'm positively jaded by her schisms. No one can tell I have a cat till they see the cat furniture because I clean the litter daily, and because I vacuum.

    She puked on the carpet this morning. That's about the biggest problem she gives me from time to time. As far as counters? Furniture? I stopped worrying about it a while ago. I sanitize the counters, and never ever ever will my furniture be more important to me than an animal. Besides, I'll be covering this couch with a sheet anyway because I hate the colour. So no more scratching :P

    When my family brought home their cat from the shelter a month after I brought Baby Suzu home nearly 5 years ago, they were successfully inducted into the purr-ligion. I succeeded in my conversion. But then again, they do have cockatiels, a budgie, an African Grey, and a German Wirehaired Pointer (my stepdad's hunting dog) all under one roof. And all animals get their due dailies and affection.

    Cats will show you things, man. About them of course, but also about yourself.

    I am also a firm believer that both types of pets require the same amount of maintenance. It's just that they are different types of maintenance. If you can't provide your dog ample time outside, unless they are the rare kind of dog that doesn't like being outside, you're being cruel. If you've got a cat and can't give it places to perch or things to scratch, and access to sunlight, that's nasty too. Buying a pet and specifically a breed for the status symbol or to stroke your own ego rather than to give it an enriching life that it was bred for, in my opinion, is an ass move.

    Meant to add - I've had both dogs and cats, and I prefer our reptiles. Bearded dragon and cornsnake.

    Have had cats all my life growing up. Loved them but their destruction of a pristine MCM Adrian Pearsall sofa made me rethink my choice in pets with the need to sharpen claws. Now I have a small Maltese Chihuahua who is a quiet, well behaved lap dog who doesn't shed and just wants to be by my side and sleep. He's perfection. Haha.

    If I do go the cat route again it's a Cornish Rex, 100%. Those big doe eyes will make me forget about the damage they may unleash on my furniture.

    I have a cat and I wake up every morning with his tongue in my face and he always begs me to play fetch when I'm trying to work.

    I'm in the minority, too. Love cats, and while I don't dislike dogs (of course they can be little sweeties) I don't like dog smell on the bed or drooling/licking.

    As long as we’re talking about animals, I’ll have to brag on my bunny Bambina. She’s very clean, litter box trained. Unlike a lot of rabbits that like to be petted as long as they get to keep their feet on the floor, she’s very cuddly.

    I tried to get her to come out of her area but she’s busy eating hay. She did turn around for a moment and let me snap this:

    She has her own space in the bottom of a pantry closet off the kitchen. She has her hay, water, litter box, and a bunch of cardboard and paper that she can chew on and dig on. I put in a box with holes in it for her as well as another cardboard tent for her to hide in but she turns the box over and pushes the cardboard tent around. I think it’s dark and hidden enough in the corner there for it to be a comfortable warren for her. She’s got another spot in the kitchen, a narrow place behind a wooden box where I store jars, where she likes to sleep. She has free run in the kitchen and she loves exploring, sniffing, loves it when I’ve got boxes or bins in there or I move things around. I can’t let her into the rest of the apartment, there’s too much for her to get into that she shouldn’t, but I bring her onto my bed in the evening and pet her while she sits in my lap. Rabbits sleep with their eyes open but she closes hers, I know she must feel really safe. She was a rescue, abandoned last November. I can’t imagine how someone could dump such a sweet, affectionate bunny.

    Little poodles don't shed they don't push you out of bed let their hair grow out they can be soft and fluffy, and donkeys are also big cuddlers if you don't mind them resting their great big head on your shoulder as they get a good ear scratch

    His hobbies include terrorizing delivery people, ripping the screen out of my sliding glass door and chasing me on the lawn mower

    I always thought they were so noisy but I have a friend lives out in the country, has a pair, they are pretty quiet. He lives on the farm he grew up on, his brother farms the land, he lives in the house. He’s got peacocks, a couple of banty roosters, guinea fowl, dogs, cats, and three young geese.

    @Babichev he is the oldest of six I have. I gave a few away. I raised 16 chicks this spring. All of them made it to 10 weeks old when they could be released.

    They are noisy but they do eat a lot of bugs and ticks so I put up with their bad behavior for the most part

    A few sacrifice themselves to the fox because they forgot they could fly and decided to run for it

    They are dumb as bricks at times

    My mom was a dog breeder so I had dogs all over the place. I love dogs buuuuuut I’m team cat. A large majority of dog people that I come across make it like cats murdered their whole family while all the cat people I met like dogs too but prefer cats.

    I’ve always said dogs are like children. Cats are like roommates. 😂😂

    I have a fat cat named Link: named after legend of Zelda and Linkin Park. I have an orange creamsicle kitty named Oliver: named after Oliver Queen the green arrow. And I have a black rag doll kitty named Dixon: named after Darryl Dixon in The Walking Dead. They are my three little archer kitties 😻

    I like dogs & cats but due to my lifestyle and living situation cats are much more manageable than dogs due to them being for the most part self sufficient ( as long as they have food & water left out and a clean litter box of course ) . I wouldn’t mind having a dog as well but that will come when I have more time , space , and of course money.
