Is there such a thing as non-sexual role playing?

edited January 2022 in General

It's something I've been thinking about for a while. Keep in mind I am not at all talking about anything that's kink related. As in no sex and no nudity.

So I'm going to ask again does non-sexual / non-kink role-playing exist? If so do any of you here do it during a cuddle session or is it highly against the rules on this site?

  • Like LARPing?

  • Ooooh. Super interesting question. I think it does exist and its an incredibly healing tool. I've never had it happen during a cuddle session, but I think its valid so long as everyone is on the same page. I think someone once tried to have me play a role without me knowing about it and that REALLY pissed me off. Communication and consent is key.

  • I prefer French bread rolls because they hold up better when you throw them. Delicious too.

  • @Sashamcgee I suppose that counts, but I'm talking more specifically in the platonic cuddling sense.

  • LARP.
    AD&D.
    White Wolf/The Masquerade campaigns.

    For starters. Yes.

  • @Sideon again I'm asking more in the sense of platonic cuddling.

I'm going to take a huge risk asking this, so here it goes.

What are people's thoughts on incorporating non-sexual/non-kink mommy boy,or daddy girl, dynamics? There I said it.

Keeping in mind of course that I am not talking about diaper fetish or anything related to that topic

  • I have AD&D insurance through work.

  • I realize a lot of people might be uncomfortable talking about that. However this is something I have a genuine curiosity about.

  • You mean like regression therapy sort of stuff? Where you pretend to be a kid again so you can get love from a parental figure?

And here my first thought was cops and robbers.

  • I would suspect its a sexual fetish if someone asked for that. But I think there could be therapeutic value to it. I do think people have a lot of childhood trauma that they struggle to express and resolve, and role playing makes sense. I don't think I would be likely to trust that this is a platonic scene with anybody even if they assured me it wasn't.

  • @DaringSprinter I don't look at it as therapy I look at it as maternal/paternal role playing.

@MxSmith so you think it's sexual? Even when there's no nudity or actual sex involved? I'm asking legitimately not rhetorically.

  • I also want to make it absolutely clear that I'm not asking anyone here to do this with me.

  • @Odinson87 I don't think its intrinsically sexual. What I'm saying is that I can't imagine a scenario where I would trust the other person is being honest about that.

  • @Odinson87 - mommy/daddy RP? Not on here, no. Also no to sugar daddy or sugar mamma RP or wannabe.

  • @Odinson87: So just for fun? Huh. Why parent-child role play, then? Why not pretend to be siblings, or buddies in the space war, or something else where the power dynamic's a little more equal?

  • Agree with @DaringSprinter. The power dynamics feel uncomfortable to me.

  • @MxSmith that makes perfect sense. I'm glad that you see that it's not always sexual. Rather you're only just stating how you feel if a client were to ask you that.

@Sideon okay thanks for your answer.

@DaringSprinter I asked specifically about the parent child role play, because I myself was abused by my biological mother, and because of that I never had a positive much mother figure. Also since you brought it up, my answer is yes. I would be open to possibly exploring that as well.

  • I think it's possible to elicit maternal feelings without role playing.

Holding my cuddle partner with their head on my chest and rubbing their head or back always brings maternal feelings out in me. Like I want to protect them and keep them safe. I also know that for at least a few of them they have felt like a little boy again in that position. For one because it was the last time he was held like that.

I don't consider that role play. But 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

  • Okay folks it looks like I got some pretty good answers. You all answered legitimately and we're very respectful so far. I also appreciate that you weren't judgmental about my legitimate question. Lastly like I said to @DaringSprinter My biological mother was abusive which is why I specifically brought up the parent-child role playing, because it's something I've been curious about for years. I've never actually done that with someone, but it's something that intrigues me. I also don't want to explore that with just anyone.

It sort of sounds to me like something that should be explored with a trained psychotherapist, not a cuddle partner. Asking a cuddle partner to basically be a substitute mother figure seems like a big ask.

  • @Sashamcgee That's actually one of my favorite positions, specifically for that reason.

  • @Sashamcgee good point! I think a lot of what we do just as female identifying cuddlers can feel maternal regardless. Just curious @Odinson87 why not regressive therapy?

  • @Odinson87 because that's something I would rather do with an actual clinical psychotherapist, not a professional cuddler or fellow cuddler enthusist. Simply because that's way out of their scope of practice.

    .

  • @MCcuddles2 like you I'm a survivor not a victim. My biological mother is an abusive narcissist, as well as many other people who have abused me in my life. However I won't ever give up living without a fight.

  • I do want to point out to the rest of you though that not everything can be solved by just seeing a therapist. A therapist can't and shouldn't give you a hug or touch you in any way. Just like professional cuddlers, they too have certain limitations they need to adhere to as well.

  • Lots of great feedback on here, and I agree with a majority of commenters saying this type of dynamic and scene should be explored with a professional therapy provider, sex worker, or romantic partner. Asking for a power dynamic scene with a professional cuddler, there is no way to do this safely or without placing an unfair burden on the other person. As someone else mentioned, certain cuddles and positions can bring out parental feelings, but as an actual scene? I get way too much solicitation for scenes such as power dynamics, feet, and other commonly fetishized scenes or kinks. The most common excuse is “it’s not sexual there’s no nudity or anything inappropriate” but the cuddler is open to an unfair risk since there is no way to fully trust a stranger / client that they are not getting an inappropriate gratification from the scene. Regardless of assurance, I have no interest in doing anything more than cuddling and conversing organically. Scenes can be explored in therapy or with a higher paid professional.
