As the thread title asks- what have you done recently that has made you feel proud of yourself and your achievement? It can be as big or as small as you like- this is a place to share those victories and get some positive feedback and some congratulatory comments!

I'm proud of myself because I've got on top of the mess in my room, I'll probably need to spend a couple more hours on it to get it done to the degree I want it to be done to, but it's on the way to being sorted. I've also stayed more or less up to date on my self care routine and taking my meds.

  • Well done @Bugglebear!

From the middle of last term to the middle of this term I tutored a student in maths from 4% at the last test before I met her, to somewhere north of 40% in the latest mid term exam. She has the most special needs of any student I've ever had and not referred to a specialist teacher.

Cut refined sugar out of my diet.

I started exercising for real. I decided that it's easy to complain about my health and weight, but much harder to do something about it... so I started to do something about it.

Mon Wed Fri - I weight lift and do cardio 💪🏃
    Tue Thu Sat - I Box 🥊
    Sun - I do yoga 🧘

I have been doing this for about 4-5 months now.

    @grumpy_cat That's wonderful.

I got back into school to advance my degree 🤓

  • I pulled a drop action out of a spinet piano, eased and repined two jacks, and put the whole thing back together in time for lunch the woman made me, all in an hour and a half. I looked back and wondered all day how I pulled that one off. She was in her 80's and quite a delight.

  • I’m proud of you 🐻 😘 *hugggzzz**!

I was able to make some people happy, to put a smile on their faces.
    I'm happy for you @BuggleBear

What brilliant achievements! I'm so happy for everyone 😊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

  • I killed a man (see details below)…

And that man was my past self. I am growing and becoming a new creature altogether.

Finished an authorized biography on one of UK's early YouTube phenoms who ended up being an interviewer to Hollywood's A-listers, his rise, fall, and redemption. Just waiting on him and his partner to finish publishing it.

  • After 4+ months of being unemployed, I started a new job on Monday! Finally, thankfully.

Also, lost just over 30lbs during the same time period. At my current weight, if I worked harder, I know it could’ve been more. But much better down than up so I’ll take it!

  • Great thread! I believe people in general are more likely to notice what's wrong or negative and forget about the nice, positives things.
I'm not sure if I'd say that I am proud, but I feel fortunate and am very happy that I can help an aunt back at my home country, who has Alzheimer's, by paying her health insurance. It's still a little bittersweet since I'm not physically there - ops, here's the negativity trying to get into me again!!

  • [Deleted User]DeadGirlWalking (deleted user)

That's definitely something to be proud of @Maverick07 ❤️

@mc_quiettime that's amazing! Congratulations! 30lbs is incredible, don't beat yourself up by saying it could have been more- it's the right direction and that's all that matters! Congrats on the job too 👏🏻

@NicoSnuggs I did something very similar last year- changed my name and everything. I feel much better now I've cut ties with my old life.

  • Thanks @BuggleBear , I appreciate it! I just gotta pic up the pace so I can be slim & sexy by summer! Just kidding- just trying to stay healthy and mobile at this point. 😊

  • This last year I have started to put some thought into how I look. My previous relationship was so up in the air that I just didn't care. A few days ago I walked past a mirror and thought.. "I guess I don't look so bad after all". Felt kind of good.
But... if I am being entirely honest here... taking the whole front end out of a 2004 Mustang was my recent accomplishment, lol. I felt proud of that.

  • [Deleted User]DeadGirlWalking (deleted user)

That's cool, @MidnightWolf! And you're a cutie, so I'm glad you're starting to realise that and appreciate yourself :)

@mc_quiettime same! IDC what people think about how I look, but I want to be fit and healthy for my grandnephew.

  • @NicoSnuggs
Aawww I was so disappointed… I was hoping you would show a karen meme😂

  • I am a former social worker (not retired) with Child Protective Services and a former foster parent to teenagers. Throughout my career and life I have never been in a hospital except at my family's bedside or in the waiting room for their various surgeries. During the past year I have been the medical advocate for my sister while she is navigating Stage IV uterine cancer. My parents, age 85 and 88 respectively, came to visit me as usual on Thanksgiving. Now, just 3 months later I became my mother's caregiver and medical advocate also. She has an aggressive Stage IV bladder cancer and has deteriorated rapidly. I started out being her caregiver with Dad visiting and then we ended up with numerous hospital trips and now a Board & Care facility with Hospice involvement. Now I'm watching my father decline rapidly also as he is pre-grieving for the soon to happen loss of his wife and daughter (my sister).

I'm giving you the background story as it is significant and relative to what I did recently that I'm very proud of. Last Wednesday I called the paramedics at 4:30 am to my home as my mother was screaming in pain. I suspected a quick onset bladder infection, in addition to the cancer. Her current pain meds were obviously not sufficient. I was confident the emergency room at the hospital, who was aware of her recent history, would help my 85 year old mother.

Here's where I was wrong. While she was in the ER, my father and I prepared for an early appt. that my mother had for the first time with the oncologist at 8:00 am. My mother had previously signed all the docs necessary for me to have full access to her records, speak with doctors on her behalf or meet with them as her medical advocate. The cancer center was directly across from the ER part of the hospital. My father and I confidently assumed she was being taken care of while we approached the reception desk of the Oncology department for her appointment. This appointment was significant because I had arranged for and completed all of her cat scans, pet scans and genetic testing of her cancer slides to determine if she could receive immunotherapy, chemo or radiation as she has already been ruled out for surgical solutions. It was important to find out now exactly what stage my mother's cancer was at and also what treatments were now available, if any.

As I spoke with the receptionist to say we were here to meet with the Oncologist on her behalf, I had the ER Department on the phone also to get a status on my mother's situation. Then is when it happened. I heard my mother's voice screaming in the background and here it was nearly 3 hours later since she had been taken by ambulance to the ER in the first place. In addition, the smiling receptionist told me that she had no idea how to do the billing for today's appt. as the patient would not be present for the appt. I told her, "would cash be sufficient? I can write a check right now. How much? Would $300.00 be sufficient? $500.00, $1,000.00? I don't care, my father and I just need to meet with the Oncologist anyway as my mother is currently in your ER."

Well, the Oncologist's nurse came out and told us the oncologist does not meet with family members unless the patient is present. So while the ER Department was still on the line (I was waiting once again listening to elevator music), I said in a very loud voice to all 75 people waiting there who heard me, "Please tell his Royal Highness, (used his full name), to get off his throne, put his mask on and walk with me directly there to the ER Department where his patient is currently screaming in pain. In addition I will contact every news channel in the area immediately until my mother is taken care of, given pain medications and admitted to the hospital to be cared for. My next steps and actions are up to you. What do you want to do?" As expected, they refused. So I stepped aside and started calling all the news channels in our area. I spoke extensively with several investigative journalists from every station. While this was going on I had found out my mother was finally given some pain medication and that they were suddenly wanting me to come to the ER for and I quote, more information before admitting her. Funny how that worked out all of a sudden.

About an hour later when my mother's medical needs were finally being addressed, I apologized to my father for him witnessing my behavior and subsequent choice of actions. He, of course, was present during the whole thing but never ushered a word at the time. When I apologized, he said just this. "Honey, you are my hero and always will be." That was when I finally broke down in tears. Yes, I am very proud of what I did last Wednesday and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I'm really glad you were able to advocate for your mom's needs and get her the help she needed. I can see why your dad called you his hero ❤️

I've always struggled with my focus and ability to retain information, and by extension, my memory and self esteem usually suffer. Managed to have a tiny victory this week when I managed to find a loophole around those obstacles at work. Been feeling at the top of my game all week, just had to overcome my doubts first. I can be my own worst critic more often then not, but not this week!

  • [Deleted User]DeadGirlWalking (deleted user)

Oooh, would this loophole double as an ADHD life hack?

    .

  • @Lovemycats I'm sorry that those steps were necessary in order for you to get help for your mother. You have my total respect for doing what needed to be done.

  • @Lovemycats - that’s amazing. Good for you. That’s insane that they waited so long to give her pain meds.

  • I’ve done several things recently that I am proud of. At the end of 2021 I realized I did not make much progress that year and I was really depressed and I’m happy with myself. Reflecting on last year was the motivation I needed to start on a bunch of projects for 2022.
    1. I finally publish my website after working on it for nearly a year.
    2. I signed up for a seven week course which should help me become an even better professional cuddler
    3. I have been putting a lot more time and effort into marketing myself this year than I ever have before
    4. I’m also tackling a project in my office with all make it much more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.

Overall I am whining less and taking more action and I feel like I’m on the right track.

  • I started studying for a degree in addiction counseling.

  • I’ve been thinking about this question since it appeared and my answer, every time, was, “Nothing, really.” That isn’t as glum as it might sound because, while I take pleasure in small accomplishments, I’m not sure if I’d apply the word “proud” to how I feel. Feeling a small pleasure that the thing happened is good enough.
I went to bed with a clean sink. Tah-dah!
I picked a salad from my own homegrown under lights greens and ate it. Tah-dah! (I do admit, it’s very good. It’s mostly lettuce and arugula, which I love, but I’ll add snippets of various herbs and compatible vegetables. Dill, parsley, Thai basil, cilantro, shallot greens, baby mustard greens, celeriac stem + leaves . . . I think that covers it. I add only a few snips of those various herbs so they are not overpowering, just these small flavor bursts as one is eating. It’s been delightful and special.

I suppose someone might think I should be proud of growing my own little salad - and fresh grass for the bunny! - but I have self-doubt all the time. Why am I doing this? It really is easy and not that expensive to buy these things from someone who is doing this for real. Why isn’t the cos lettuce germinating? Why do I feel compelled to do these things? Obviously there’s something fun about it for me but I get down on myself for not doing it better.

I just decided to give that idea up. (For the moment, at least.) Tah-dah!

@xandriarain and @JoyfulHeart that's amazing! It's very cool to be able to do something that enriches and fulfils you as a person and gives you more skills, especially when those skills help people.

@Babichev I think there is a very human need to create and nurture things, no matter how small. I've grown my own salad leaves, herbs and veggies before, and it's fascinating to eat these things that I've been watching slowly push from the earth and unfurl and grow and become strong. It's kinda magical.
