Who else is thankful they are working to do away with Daylight Savings time?
I have been dragging this week getting acclimated to the hour adjustment. And explaining to several dogs that it's NOT dinner time.
They are pushing to make daylight savings time permanent. It has passed the Senate and still needs to pass the house and the President. If it passes it will become permanent in 2023.
That’s great news for the US. Hopefully it will pass the House and Biden will sign it too. If so, it starts in 2023.
Man, I'd love that. The time shifts always throw me off.

I've heard that before, but I somehow doubt farm folk tie their lives too tightly to a clock when the sun's right there—and their animals are gonna be following that. Wasn't it about conserving fuel for war? I could've sworn it was something like that.
I'm not against making DST permanent, but I do know they tried this in the 1970s as a way to conserve energy. It failed because parents complained about their kids having to wait for buses in the pitch dark during the winter.
I wish it wasn’t starting in 2023. That means there’s one more time losing an hour. It should go into effect now or standard time should be permanent. I’m not crazy about DST during the summer. You don’t need daylight at 9PM.
If you think that changing the time twice a year, some people have it worse. For a while, I lived in Granger Indiana, which was a pert of Indiana that didn't go on daylight saving time. I was about 1/2 mile from the Michigan border, and Michigan did change their time time twice a year. Many of my neighbors worked in Michigan, but their kids went to school in Indiana. In some household one spouse worked in Michigan, and the other worked in Indiana. In those household, everybody would be on the same time in the winter, and then on different time for the rest of the year.
Many factions had a voice in creating the daylight savings debacle in the US. Some were disingenuous about why they were seeking it. I think that explains some of our misunderstanding around why we have it.
But lobbyists for the golf industry and for big chocolate both played significant roles in crafting our present policy. It’s a ridiculous practice. And I’m looking forward to its end.

I’m not disputing your assertion that parents were up in arms about kids waiting for the bus in the dark. But start time for public schools is determined locally. So it sounds as if a lack of vision or political will (to create more sensible timing for school kids) got papered over with a false (but appetizing) narrative of “blame the feds.”

My sleep is so messed up all the time anyway that it really doesn’t matter to me what they do. Personally I’ll still feel the same.
There are the same number of hours in a day, and same number of hours of daylight in a day, no matter what numbers the hands on a clock point to. It's silly. I'm glad they're doing away with it.
I would be so happy if they did this!!! I'm so tired of changing the clocks twice a year
