It’s perfectly natural for men to get an erection during a cuddle but what’s more important is how he acts while experiencing it. I don’t bring attention to it, I just switch to positions that don’t have his “excitement” touching me.
He is an adult and he should know the rules of the site and be aware of your boundaries. So if he tries to grind, hump like a little sad horny puppy, ask if you can “relieve” him or if he can relieve himself, he’s disgusting and doesn’t respect your boundaries. As a pro, I always get my money upfront so if I have someone like this disrespecting my boundaries, I leave. You aren’t a pro so you don’t have to worry about that, but if he’s going against your boundaries or you’re uncomfortable, you don’t have to stay.
It’s happened to the best of us. Like @sheena123 said, you can ignore it, excuse yourself to the bathroom for a moment or if you’re very uncomfortable pack it up and exit. I’ve never had anyone leave, I usually adjust positions or think about football. It’s really all about intentions and boundaries, once those are settled up front, you know how to react later.

But perhaps the OP meant a general feeling of excitement while cuddling?! Maybe I'm alone in this but I love the excitement leading up to the cuddles and the kind of excitement I often feel during a cuddle. The kind where my inner kitten takes over and I get kinda pouncy and squealy and want to give them an, "I'm so happy right now!!" hug.
My hope is that everyone gets to feel that level of good ol' excitement too (at least every once in awhile).
What happens if a woman gets excited?
First, stay calm. Second, politely tell him that he can stream ESPN on his phone after the cuddle. Finally, provide a safe space for him to set his phone down.

It's natural and normal. No drama and actually nothing to be embarrassed about. Just acknowledge it and change positions, put a cushion over the affected area, take a short break from the cuddle, or something. Or just ignore it.
A normal guy is likely to be slightly embarrassed or awkward. A creep may respond in the kind of way @Sheena123 describes. In that case leave immediately/throw him out and Report.

Customers will RARELY act in such way if the establishment is a place of professional business, like a Massage Clinic, Chiropractors office, etc.
For men to meet a woman In a hotel or their own home with very little security, this is bound to happen. It’s too much of a distraction to do this type of service in such manner. More so if a lady comes to a man’s house to cuddle. Oh dear.
If Cuddle Offices or Clinics existed, much like a typical business, they know the boundaries and will most likely not act up.

@LatinMan1963 I have an office and I know a handful of other Cuddle therapists who also have an office. Sadly many office buildings don’t accept Cuddle therapists because there’s a lack of understanding and stigma.

I believe that they have that thought about it because this is something that is not regulated where a true professional in this field will have some type of certification or so.
Like to be a masseuse one has to have a certification in order to practice and maybe open up a store
But like anything, massage parlors have that stigma, like a form of a prostitution ring or escort service. I believe that some folks might think that what is done for cuddling is borderline something of that nature you know.

@LatinMan1963 There are actual certifications you can get from Cuddlist Cuddle sanctuary and certified cuddlers. I am cuddlers trained and have taken other courses/mentoring. I’m hoping to get certified pretty soon.
@wellnessseeker and @UKGuy ~ Really? What is the appropriate response to if a woman get's excited? I'd like to think the ideas presented by others aren't gender specific but just in case, here are some ideas... Tone things down some, take a water or bathroom break, suggest a position that is less stimulating, open a window, turn the AC up, go for a walk, have a coffee/tea/snack, etc.
But the I think the most effective idea is to call a quick time out... "Whoa, feels like we're getting a bit to close to some potential line crossing. How about we take a short break then reset our intentions for today?"

I’m not a man so I can’t begin to understand, but I’m wondering if they’re thinking about the cuddle in a romantic way which I feel like most do. If you were laying on the couch snuggling with your sister or your cousin or your mother would that happened to you they act like it’s gonna happen just by rubbing up against some object. It happens because they’re turned on if you ask me. Because they are not really thinking about the session platonically. I had a guy come in just shorts with no underwear. I didn’t really catch it towards the end. Sounds like to me he came prepared to be turned on. I have a regular cuddle partner he’s never been hard cuddling me. Because then it’s not platonic cuddling. But in the day and age a friends with benefits it’s hard for people to know what it really means to be platonic.

To OP's question "what happens when a man gets excited?" In my experience, having been around excited men before, some of them just stoically say "That's very exciting." Some pump their fist in the air and shout "YES!" especially during an event like a touchdown, for example. 🤓
