We are? When did that start?
Was it when I explained why I couldn't stay silent in the face of cruelty? That's the point where you announced we were debating....
I have always wondered the same thing, too. It could be for stats purposes to get a read on demographics on who uses the site. And/or just to have another aspect to select in our cuddle partner search options. Kinda like many of the other questions. Thankfully there’s other choices on there less sex-oriented-specific and more attraction-specific. Like sapiosexual which I put on mine.
Ya.. being respectful of people isnt up for debate so let's all just try to be more mindful of using the correct terminology and get back to the original topic
I hope they remove it, ot at least make it optional
I second @craM. It's not really useful!
When I get on a commercial passenger airplane they don’t ask me “What kind of parachute do you want?” …because skydiving isn’t what I’m signing up for. If they did ask that I’d get suspicious and ask questions, “hey is this question leaving the door open for this activity that isn’t allowed on a commercial passenger plane?”
So it is a little weird they ask for sexual orientation.
I've also had issue with the sexual orientation question. My best guess is that the software is probably designed for dating sites and it isn't optional to remove it.
On the other hand, it's not likely to help where it's needed... that is, the vast majority of those who disrespect sexual boundaries are men who push boundaries with women. If they don't care about explicit boundaries, they are unlikely to even notice what a woman's sexual orientation is, let alone respect it.
The one way I see the question being helpful is for women who want to cuddle men; gay men tend to be the safer choice. At least for me, that's my preference.
While Mark and Gary may be able to confirm, when the site was created it had a more generic layout which included requesting the basic information and having defaults of what all would be mandatory. Some of that has been changed, updated or removed while some has not. The biggest reason I can see and have had reports for is homophobia. Some people on the site do not want to meet or cuddle with someone who is bi, gay, trans, etc. Some have had dangerous situations come up because they tried to hide this fact about themselves or were just clicking through too quickly when creating their profile not noticing what they'd set it to.
So while the section may have started as a site default, it's now a safety feature to help prevent putting people in possibly hostile situations.
